Journye could only blink for a moment then dropped her cup of fruit juice as she turned to run back to the Infirmary.
She was panting hard by the time she arrived though the distance wasn't that great, she was still feeling stressed. She was thankful to see no one in the room as she closed her eyes tightly, taking deep controlling breaths to push back the emotions that were now subsiding. She shook her head and opened her eyes once more, remembering that Reryu had seen a Brown that was injured in the flight.
She smoothed her tunic and gathered up some numb weed and other supplies in case the person that owned the brown decided to come by . She wasn't as talented as C'lyn when it came to healing dragons and their little cousins, but she was learning much from the older green rider. She greatly admired him not only for his dedication to his work, but his dedication to the old blue rider that had arrived so frail.
Journye felt more relaxed now that the flight was over and was thankful that she had been able to keep herself from breaking the rules. She set the supplies out and began straightening the blankets on the cots. B'kay, holding Griz gingerly, put pressure on the worst of the bleeders, his brows furrowed with concern. The little brown seemed listless and disoriented, but he could not determine if that was from pain, exhaustion, ichor loss, or the disappointment of having lost the Flight. When he arrived in the hospital area, he was somewhat startled -- though relieved -- to find Journye already there. He thought he remembered having seen her at some point during the firelizard flight. Griz raised his head as she saw the young woman, and chirped at her plaintively. "I think he understands that you can help him," the bronzerider said, his voice deep but softer than normal. He made no effort to hide the worry on his face. "He's got some sail tears on the left, one spot is bleeding ichor rather badly, and from the way he's holding it, I wonder if he's got some tendon damage as well." Like a child with an injury that he is looking to have kissed, B'kay held his litter brown friend out toward the healer woman, and raised his dark eyes to her with hope. "You can help him, can't you?"

Journye looked up as she heard someone entering the infirmary. She turned to fully face the Weyrling Master as he entered, holding his brown. She quickly cleared off a spot on one of the higher tables and covered it with a cloth "I can do my best to help him Weyrling Master," she said as she indicated that he could sit and place his fire lizard on the table.
"If you would prefer I can call for Master C'lyn, but I can at least get him some numb weed and see to the worst of the bleeding," she said, already getting out bandages, numb weed, and stitch supplies as she spook, not wainting to waste time being idle waiting for an answer. She carefully laid out the supplies on the table and turned to B'kay once more, smiling softly "He is being very brave for his injuries, he is a strong brown," she said as she carefully looked the little brown over, keeping her touch as gentle as possible in her examination.
She gently brushed a fingertip along the brown's eye ridge and murmured soothingly both to fire lizard and older rider "I can help him. I think that he is going to need a few stitches and the tendon appears to be nicked so we will need to keep it stable to help it heal. So no flight for you for a little bit my friend," she explained softly, looking back up to B'kay, seeking permission to begin.

B'kay nodded, his eyes never leaving his little friend, who was indeed being very brave. The fact that Griz obviously trusted the young healer eased some of his concern.
"Please, yes," he said quietly, "He seems to like you ... I trust you to help him. Let me know what I can do to assist?"
Syth's mind joined in as B'kay sent thoughts of comfort to the flitter. You will be well, little brother. You will like numbweed very much, even though it smells foul.

Journye nodded slowly at the Weyrling Master's words and opened up the jar of numb weed she had set out. She dipped the end of a cloth into the stuff and reached out to carefully dab the smelling stuff onto the brown's wounds, frowning a bit as ichor beaded into it from the worst of the scratches and cuts. She set aside the cloth and looked more closely at the wounds now that the numb weed was beginning to take effect and deaden the pain.
She could feel Lucaith stirring and sent tender thoughts to him and let him know where she was as she turned to begin threading the needle fot the stitches "I am glad he trusts me and that you trust me was well Weyrling Master B'kay. I want to apologize for nearly breaking the rules just now during the flight," she spoke softly, wanting the older man to know that she regretted not being able to control herself better.
Reryu appeared then, landing on the table near his person and chirped soothingly to Griz. Not far behind the bronze was Lucaith who wandered into the infirmary, wrinkling his snout at the smell of numb weed.
Journye looked at Lucaith Give me just a few minutes lovey and I'll bathe you like I promised I would when you woke she told her blue before turning her attention back the injured brown and B'kay "Even though I've put numb weed on his injuries I will need you to help hold him still while I stitch him back up. Once I have him stitched we will fix a brace for his wing to hold it still and remind him not to fly for a bit," she said gently.
Lucaith tilted his head and looked at the brown curiously What happened to the little cousin? he asked innocently, causing Journye's cheeks to flush. I will tell you when I am done Lucaith dear, she said soothingly, satisfying the blue's curiousity for now.

Little Griz relaxed visibly as the numbweed took effect, and this caused the knot in B'kay's shoulders to ease. He sent comforting thoughts to his little friend, and could feel Syth's soothing presence joining.
When the healer's firelizard and dragon both joined them, it touched his heart to think that so many were concerned about his one little brown flitter.
He nodded in respect toward Lucaith, and turned to Journye. "A healer's dragon often joins in when there is a need to comfort a patient. Please thank Lucaith and your firelizard for me."
Her apologies about the firelizard flight caused him to feel slightly awkward, and he searched for the right words before saying, "It's one of the aspects of life in a Weyr that we all have to deal with. I don't think there should be any ill effects to the young dragons, considering it was just a firelizard flight. If anyone notices a problem with their dragons, I and some of the other more experienced riders in the Weyr can help them to make things right."
Throughout this, he'd been stroking the little brown, who was growing more and more relaxed on the table. B'kay then slid a hand beneath the little body in a firm and gentle hold, and with the other hand stretched out the injured wing tenderly, "Let me know what else you need me to do."

Journye nodded slowly and smiled fondly at Lucatih as she washed her hands with a red root cleanser "Master C'lyn has been teaching me about Lucaith being able to help me when healing," she said softly. She flexed her fingers before picking up the threaded needle.
"Just keep him as still as possible, I know this is as hard for you as it is for him," she said with a gentle tone and smile. Reryu crooned encouragingly to Griz. Lucaith peeked over the edge of the table, snorting lightly at the scent of numb weed and the astringent Are you going to make the little cousin better mine? I want to help the blue said as he began to hum soft and low. Journye smiled and looked up at B'kay "Lucaith is going to help," she said before looking back down to Griz.
She lightly bit her bottom lip as she leaned over the brown firelizard, making the first stitch neatly. She felt calm listening to Lucaith's humming as she made two more stitches, closing up the worst of the gashes before she turned her attention to the damaged tendon. She nodded to herself as pressed the two ends together, glad that it seemed to only be a nick and would not really need a stitch, but would grow back together if kept stabilized.
She looked at the tears in the sails, chewing on her bottom lip as she looked it over "I think a thin bandage here will help the healing process," she said as she stood straight, tilting her head to look up at the older rider.

The little brown relaxed visibly as the numbweed took affect, and as gentle thoughts helped to calm him. His human's firm, careful grip served to make him feel more secure, so when the healer woman began to stitch his injuries, he made no effort to struggle.
B'kay's eyes followed the sharp needle as Journye's skilled hands neatly sewed up the deepest of the scratches. Her question, asking his opinion on the bandages, caused him to look up and meet her gaze.
"Oh, I ... yes, that sounds right, I don't think they're terribly serious," the dark bronzerider said, and returned his attention to the firelizard. "He's pretty well behaved ... well, when I insist, anyway. I think I can keep him quiet. How long to you think we'll have to immobilize that wing?"
A dark shadow fell into the infirmary from somewhere outside the outer entrance, and B'kay could hear the sniff and snort of large dragon-nostrils.
Is our little one all right? He feels calm. I cannot see him. And Syth's mental inquiry was punctuated by a rumble of complaint that came from somewhere just out of sight. Lucaith gets to watch, why do I not get to watch?
B'kay raised an eyebrow as he glanced toward the shadow. For Journye's benefit, he said aloud, "Lucaith gets to watch, because he actually fits IN here. I promise to bring Griz outside to see you as soon as the Healer is finished with him."
Rolling his eyes, he glanced toward Journye and then back to the little brown, who had in fact relaxed so much under the gentle attentions that he was starting to snore.

((Sorry it took me a couple of days to reply, been working lots of hours lately.))
Journye chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully "I wouldn't say more then a couple of seven days to make sure it heals completely," she said after a moment.
She glanced up as a shadow appeared and chuckled softly when B'kay spoke out loud, confirming what she had thought was in the entrance way. Lucaith makes a soft sound of curiosity and wanders over to the door way.
He croons a greeting to the larger bronze Your friend is doing fine. He is lucky to have some one big like you and your rider looking after him. Mine will do her best and she is the greatest healer!/color] Lucaith rambled to Syth, puffing out his chest in pride for his rider.

Syth rumbled a friendly greeting as Lucaith approached him, and offered him encouragement. I am certain that your rider is an excellent healer, and that our little cousin is in good hands.
B'kay couldn't help a smile as the little dragon wandered over to comfort the huge one. He would be a fine healer's assistant, indeed.
"A couple of sevendays shouldn't be too difficult," the bronzerider lied, eyeing the now snoozing firelizard doubtfully. He full knew the energy Griz could exhibit, and how much of a challenge it would be to keep him still once the pain wore off.

Journye watched Lucaith for a moment, not bothering to hide her pride for him. She arranged the small pieces of splint sticks she had set out, looking back up at B'kay. "It might be a few days less then that, but its better to be safe then to jeopardize his ability to fly," she said as she reached out to gently take Griz's wing.
She held it in the position she needed "Will you please hold his wing like this for me so I can splint it properly?" she asked of B'kay. She waited till he took the wing and carefully and gently placed the splint sticks in place and held them in place carefully with bandages.
