B'kay gently held Griz's injured wing as instructed. The little brown stopped snoring as Journye began to attach the splints, and raised a sleepy head. He was exhausted not only from the injury and numbweed, but the flight itself had taken a lot out of him.
Dark little eyes lit with colors of curiosity and began to swirl slowly as he watched the healer's hands work. He tilted his head and chirped then reached out to nibble at the splints that were being set into place.
"None of that, now," B'kay said softly, "You need to leave them right where the healer puts them. You want to be able to fly again, right?"
Curiosity tinged with slight concern as the flitter backed away from the splints and chittered an emphatic affirmative. He flashed images of soaring through the skies into B'kay's mind, and a promise not to bother his bandages.
B'kay smiled and relayed, "He says he'll be good."

Journye smiled as she adjusted the last bandage before straighten up. Lucaith had come back over to look curiously at the splint on the flitters wing, firing off a hundred questions at once. Journye reached down to gently scratch the blue's eyeridges, promising to explain everything later. She loved her blue's curiosity and willingness to learn, but sometimes it was a bit over whelming.
She smiled to B'kay "I am glad he promised to behave himself. You can bring him back in seven days and I our Master C'lyn will check the progress of the healing," she said as she reached out to brush gentle fingers along the side of Griz's neck "He was very brave for getting his stitches. I have a few meat rolls her if you'd like to give him something to eat," she offered, earning a hungry and pitiful chirp from Reryu who nuzzled her hand. She chuckled, but waited for B'kay's answer.

B'kay couldn't help grinning when Griz chirruped loudly at the mention of food. "I guess the little fellow has worked up an appetite," he said, and gladly accepted the offered meatroll.

Journye smiled and began to break one of the meat rolls into small pieces for her own flit, who snapped them up greedily. Shaking her head Journye admonished the gluttonous bronze, telling him to take his time. She glanced back up at B'kay and tilted her head "How long have you been a dragonrider?" she asked, almost immediately lowered her head as a blush colored her cheek at her sudden question.
She chewed lightly on her bottom lip as Lucaith nudged against her leg soothingly. She smiled softly down at him and decided not to retract her question, she was curious and wanted to know as much about the riders that had come forward, perhaps understand how to help them if it was needed, already C'lyn had taught her much of dragon healing.

Seeing his bronze comrade eating, Griz looked up at B'kay pleadingly. Without hesitation, the bronzerider grabbed another of the meatrolls and began breaking pieces off for his little friend. The nature of care-tending having already softened him, B'kay's face took on an almost handsome glow when Journye asked how long he'd been a rider.
"It's over nine turns now," he said quietly, reaching his heart toward the dark bronze dragon who still had head and neck squished into the adit, and was trying to stretch far enough to peer into the room. "There are days that I can't even remember what life was like before Syth was part of my soul. And there are other days that I can ... I try to shake them off as quickly as I can. The mines are dark and hot and stifling. The skies of Pern are clear and free. 'Tis better to fly. Yow!"
The latter exclamation came because a certain little brown flitter had taken offense when B'kay's reverie caused him to pause in the feeding. The dark rider rubbed his nipped finger briefly, and handed Griz another good sized bite of meatroll.

Journye smiled and looked down at her Lucaith, understanding now the way the older riders felt with their bonded. She looked up at B'kay at his exclamation and, did her best not to chuckle.
She looked thoughtful for a moment before speaking again "What was it like in the time you came from?" she asked. She was truly curious about what it had been like before.

B'kay's expression clouded slightly as Journye asked the question about his time. He'd been noticing unrest among the weyrfolk lately ... not everyone was buying the so called "leadership" of the Weyr unquestioningly ... himself included. He had no way of knowing where this young woman stood in her loyalties, so he chose his words carefully.
"We fought Thread," he said quietly, and one hand went up reflexively to touch the deep scar on his cheek. "We protected Pern. We did what Dragons and Riders have done for generations of Turns. And then, one day, there was no more Thread. For a short time that was a good thing, we felt victorious, many of us spent the days of celebration in a drunken stupor. And then the drunken stupors continued as riders and dragons got bored and the halls and holds around us turned away ... our purpose having dissipated into the clear skies over Pern."
He stroked Griz, whose belly was filling and eyes were closing in exhausted relaxation. "And so, for a wide variety of reasons, some made the Jump." His dark eyes flashed beneath hooded lids. "And we shall Fight again."
A deep rumble resonated from the outer entrance, as Syth's sympathetic thoughts sought voice.

Journye nodded slowly as she gave the last piece of the meatroll to Lucaith since bronze firelizard was already dozing. She looked down at the table for a long moment, feeling that B'kay was censoring himself and well she honestly couldn't blame him since there were many whispered words of rebellion floating around. She couldn't care less which side won, she wasn't choosing sides, she only wanted to be able to help dragon and rider when she was needed no matter what side of the fight they were on.
She sighed and looked up at B'kay after a long moment of silence "I understand that is probably all you can tell me and I thank you for that much," she said softly, with a slight smile. "I too want to help fight Thread when it comes back, but I also want to be a Healer for bother rider and dragon no matter the circumstances," she said, feeling very strongly about her convictions.
Journye looked down as Lucaith nudged her leg. She gently scratched his eye ridges and assured him she was alright, not wanting to upset her little blue.
