Farallen raced through the halls of the weyr at a dangerous pace, a bowl of meat clutched tightly in one hand. He was late! It hadn’t been his fault, he thought, after all, he had just happened to stroll into the kitchen when he found himself to be hungry after an uninteresting morning with nothing to do. No dragons or firelizards currently needed tending to, which game him a frustrating amount of free time. Farallen liked dragonhealing, and he liked having something to do. Free time was very nice, but he couldn’t help the growing feelings of the need to have something to occupy himself with. But now, perhaps, he would have something, his own firelizard to care for! That was, if he didn’t miss the hatching entirely due to his late arrival.
He slipped into Robika’s weyr, panting for breath, and his eyes widened with excitement at the sight that greeted them. Eggs, firelizard eggs, in a vast array of sizes and colors! It was not as striking an experience for him, granted, as he had seen numerous dragon hatchings in the past, but hatchings of any kind never completely lost their magic. He stared down, entranced by the hatching creatures. How wonderful they all were, how unique! Already a brown, a blue, a green, and a bronze were making their way about, coming into the world, searching for the right person to take away their biting hunger.
Quite content to watch them, now, Farallen was taken aback when one, a strong-willed, acid green flitter, approached him! Well, approached, perhaps, was the wrong word. His eyes widened in surprise as the green took to the air, flying quite awkwardly toward him. What a feat for a creature so young! Realizing that it was /him/ she was headed for, he quickly reached out a hand for her to perch on. She collided with his palm in an awkward landing, and immediately opened her mouth, screeching to be fed. The sound was cut short as Farallen quickly selected a scrap of meat and poked it into her eager mouth. It was gone almost instantly, and she opened her mouth again. When the next morsel did not come quick enough, she hissed, and pounced down toward the bowl of meat.
“Hey, hey, slow down!” He exclaimed, gingerly picking up the struggling creature and holding her more firmly in his hand. She was going to choke herself, trying to eat all the food at once that way! “It’s not like another firelizard is going to come and take it…” He said, a grin sliding over his face as he examined the little green. She had quite a personality, that was certain! Irritated and angry that she was not being fed, the green began to thrash in his grip, and Farallen, chuckling to himself, quickly when back to feeding her.

The Love Egg shattered daintily, the shards deceptively sharp in the furs. The flitter inside didn't make a noise, but instead radiated violent hunger throughout the room. Shaking off any messy shards from the glistening body, a dark, gray-blue flitter looked around curiously. It was so hungry! Finally, he opened his jaws and let loose a loud, pitiful creel. So hungry, so hungry, but where was he to find food? Did one of these big creatures have food? Well, he could smell it, so he would find it that way! He stumbled forward, stepping delicately onto the furs. Yet he lost his footing, tumbling over and onto the Boredom Egg that lay so blandly. Squealing apologetically, the Love Blue flapped his wings to try and balance himself. Yet the damage was done. The movements induced the shaking of the once-still Boredom Egg. Cracks ran along in jagged lines along the shell, and the blue squeaked anxiously before looking back at the humans. Maybe its clutchsibling would never know that it was he that had gotten it start to hatching? The Confusion Egg, too, hatched at the same time, with the shards revealing an odd flitter of a deep blue-green hide-- but which one was it? The flitter squeaked indignantly at the confusion met by everyone in the room. Wasn't it obvious?
The Fear Brown, startled by all the excitement, tried to bury himself deeper into the egg, but the encasement was already fragile. This movement shattered the remaining egg, and the brown flailed miserably. Its hideout was gone, and the rest of the furs were taken over by other eggs. Instincts were telling him to get between, but it was too scary! Jerking himself up, he darted forward, toward the first person he could get to that would protect him: Hauze. Chirruping in a high-pitched, frightened tone, he pulled himself onto the boy's pants, clinging on for dear life and wrapping his dark brown wings around his leg. Would this one save him from the scary world?
Two eggs shattered at the exact same time as that Impression, stealing the glory away from the brown. The two eggs, the Apathy Egg and the Annoyance Egg, fell away from the clutch in opposite directions. However, the most eye-catching one was the bronze that fell from the latter. The dark, shimmering hide had a discreet dazzle, and the haughty creature looked up with a low growl. The Apathy Egg, however, broke into a silent, red-brown flitter who ignored his bronze brother completely. He took a step forward. The Love Blue, sensing a possibility of only getting second pick, shrieked nervously, shuffling forward with wings outstretched. He threw himself at Kera's feet possessively, looking up at her with adoring eyes. This angered the bronze, who shrieked in defiance at being beaten to the crowd by a mere blue! Sulkily, he crouched down, hissing at everyone.
The Apathy Brown let out a bored series of grunts. His bronze brother was acting immature. Calmly and collectively, he waddled toward Minelli, tapping her foot patiently. She would do. As the bronze refused to choose and continued to sulk, the Boredom Egg managed to wriggle itself off the mound it was on and onto the floor. Oblivious to the fact that its clutchbrother had started hatching it, the turquoise blue flitter inside shook itself free. He looked up lazily at everyone. He was hungry! He would eat lots of food, then he would sleep, he decided with certainty. As he marched slowly toward the people, the Surprise Egg erupted like a quick explosion, with shards being sprayed at others close by. It showered the bronze and the blue, and the bronze was angered. He screeched at the flitter that hatched. That was quite rude! The flitter, a large gray-brown one, peeped apologetically to the bronze. It didn't mean to! The Boredom Blue, however, ignored them, with thoughts of food making him exciting. He quickened his pace, rushing at Brinne happily. Food, sleep, food, sleep! This girl could provide all of that for him, just like a servant!
Then, in the center of the clutch, the queen egg began to rock...

After the next couple of days, and (without kellis) the hatching was starting. a pastle pink egg hatched first. And a dark, gray-blue Firelizard came out. Kera could tell it was really hungry and felt sorry for the little guy. The firelizard then let out a loud creel. Kera picked up some meat, but she didn't know what to do with it, but Kera knew how hungry the blue was!The blue stumbled and lost his footing and he tumbled over and onto a drab gray egg. he squealed apologetically, and flapped his wings trying to balance. he got up and stumbled around. The other eggs started to hatch, but Kera couldn't keep her eyes off of the blue. The blue was searching for food looking around at the other candidates and smelling them, desperate for food. He didn't see Kera yet. Then, suddently, he saw her. Kera held out food for him, and the blue came forward slowly.
Kera could not look away of the little blue. She held the food out farther. The blue came closer and sniffed it. H the blue grabbed it, and looked gratful for the food. Kera knelt down and stroked the blue's head. The blue looked up and looked kera right in the eyes. The impression was made. The blue squealed for more and Kera,a big smile on her face and understanding him, picked him up and went to get more food for him.

Kera picked up the blue firelizard and went to get some more food. She found some more meat and Gave the little guy the food he ate it fast and squeaked for more. Kera sat down and fed him until he was full. "Now, what am I going to call you?" Kera thought aloud. Kellis came up slowly, seeing the firelizard on his friend's lap. Kellis came up and sniffed the blue. The blue, scared by the strange creature, flapped his wings and squawked in fear. Kellis, started ran behind a near tree. Kera laughed quietly. "It okay little guy, He's not going to hurt you" She said reassuringly. Kellis when the blue calmed down came up agian and sniffed him. The blue got up the courage and the feline and the firelizard nose's touched. Then Kellis and the blue right then became friends. The blue jumped on kellis's back and looked very happy. "okay, you guys are friends now, but we have one more problem," Kera said,"What am I going to name you?" Kera said pointing at the blue firelizard. The firelizard squawked cheerfully.

Kera finally had found a name for her little friend- Lyric. It was Perfect! Lyrics of a song can be blue and gray, which that color was the color of his hide. Kera patted Lyric's head. Kera said his name 3 times, and the more the blue firelizard heard it, the more he liked it. Kera loved Lyric and Kellis- her two friends she could trust with her life. Lyric, Kellis and Kera-the 3 most best friends of Pern.

Hungry eyes scoured the Clutch, following the Hatching and departure of each new fire lizard. Every time one even glanced her way, Brinne felt a lump of fear and thrill form in her throat, threatening to choke off her air supply, but the flitters were all finding partners elsewhere. The candidate began to feel huffy, never a patient one, wondering if she ought to push her way to the front in order to be more accessible to the little ones. They were probably simply missing her because of the others in front of her.
As a delicate gray-blue tumbled into another egg, causing cracks to form, and a blue-green filtter Hatched nearby, Brinne latched her eyes onto these three possibilities, but the blue slipped off in another direction. Two browns then Impressed, and a bronze was present but refusing to find its match as of yet. The girl held her breath; maybe he would choose her! The thought of a bronze on her arm and a gold dragon beneath her nearly made Brinne swoon.
Suddenly, a lovely turquoise blue that had Hatched from a surprisingly drab egg came racing towards her. Brinne was so startled by this headlong charge that she froze for a moment, unsure if the fire lizard had actually chosen her. This was not to the blue's liking at all, for she was supposed to be filling his maw as fast as he could swallow, and he let this be known with an indignant squawk and flutter of his wings, clambering onto her leg to try to get to the bowl himself.
This confirmation was enough, and Brinne, delighted, began tearing pieces of meat into small enough pieces for the blue to consume safely, moving as quickly as she could to appease his raging hunger. She herself was amazed at how starved she suddenly felt, and the candidate marveled at the emotional connection that had taken place, as the fire lizard's feelings became her own. Thoughts of a handsome bronze no longer entered her mind, for Brinne's mouth was ajar as she stroked the gorgeous turquoise hide with one hand and fed with the other. He was the loveliest creature she had ever seen...and he had chosen her. That was quite a thing for one afraid of rejection.

Minelli hadn't been looking in the direction of the brown but was rather observing the other flits. The green on her shoulder stared down at her, exasperated, before looking up again to see the brown calming approaching. She gave a lovely trill, making Minelli look over to her, confused. Until she felt the tap on her foot.
She turned her gaze down to him and blinked in surprise. That was right. The mellow brown had disappeared from the goings-on of the clutch. She smiled at him and offered a hand for him to climb up. He did, taking his time to make sure he was firmly on her hand and wasn't about to fall off. He even wrapped his tail around her wrist as she lifted him up. Mini gave another croon before humming quietly. She fed him; he wasn't voracious and demanding as the other starving flits, though he certainly was hunger. He ate what was offered and he took his time too. He seemed disinterested in his siblings and was just content to stay there.
"You're a curious little fellow," she murmured as her musical green crawled down her arm to get a better view at the apathic brown. Mini gave a curious chirp. "I think I'll call you Spectator," she said finally and Mini gave an approving chirp. The brown, Spectator, glanced her way before eating another piece. She laughed.

How many are there? Do any of them look like your Lancetoth? Are they as big as our little cousin? Lancetoth queried in excitment, eager to be a part of the hatching as well. A low hum vibrated across their mental link, and D'gellin found himself catching the tune as well. There are quite a few. None are nearly as handsome or wonderful as you. And - the young rider laughed aloud. - None of them are quite as large as Mother. D'gellin's large green fire-lizard trilled a defense, snapping up the forgotten meatroll in the young man's hand. "Hey, that's not for you." D'gellin scolded Mother, unsure weather to laugh or be distressed. I promise I'll give you a feast once this is done, but for now save it for the little ones. He grinned, reaching up to scratch the green's eye-ridge. I would enjoy a feast as well! Lancetoth put in at length. D'gellin felt a pang of discontent for not being able to immedietly hug his bronze in reassurance. And of course, a feast for Lancetoth as well. He promised as he picked up another piece of meat and returned his attention to the hatching. How quickly these little flitters moved! __________ Fallen's eyes followed the movement of the hatchlings with interest. Much as the fire lizards looked like their larger cousins, there were many little things he could pick out which were different. And this variation made him all the more intent on, now what was the word...imprinting? Impressing? Yes, that one. Fallen smiled lightly at a brown that tried to hide in it's own egg. They were certainly charming little things, that was for sure. The young man reajdusted where he sat, holding the meat out farther as a few lizards wandered around uncertainly.

Crown giggled at the small Bronze's antic's, finishing softly wiping down her new critter. He was a prettier one, shiney and he played softly in the light, immediatly attracting attention as he glittered like a penny. He cheaped lovingly up at her, nuzzling her fingers with his head before happily going back to scarfing down the food infront of him. Settling farther down in His's lap, Glomp settled as though he would stay there for a long time, and finishing the last roll, he settled down watch the rest of the hatching, occasionally lightly chewing on her fingers as she stroked him.
Crown's own clear blue eyes watched the Hatching, amused at the Annoyance Egg that seemed so grumpy. She wanted to reach for him to sooth the scared child, but she was too far away and she didn't believe that anybody would take pleasure in a simple Drudge butting in. She was already harboring a secret fear that Glomp would be taken from her. Even as all the turmoil spun around, Crown's eyes snapped to the Pride Egg as the Queen began to hatch. But, she looked away deliberatly. Queen's were annoying haughty creatures that couldn't even breath fire.
--------------------------------
Leaning slightly backwards, the tall male relaxed against the wall in the back, peering over the heads of the people to loose himself in the Hatching. It was a calming time, although the hustle and bustle would prove itself otherwise. Hauze loved these times, when he could watch people and see everything that was happening in the world. He enjoyed being the wallflower, and was d**n good about it.
He was watching the Bronze and Brown squabble when suddenly something was attached to his leg, and with a start, Hauze looked down. His own clear blue eyes, so like someone else's in the room, took in the pretty brown, and his heart went out to the terrified critter. Despite the chasm's eagerness to swallow the part of his mind that the little flit had claimed as his own, Hauze shoved it back wiht a vehmence and reached down to gently unattach itself from him. Afraid that Hauze was casting him away, the little Brown did nothing but hold on tighter, cheeping madly.
"Hush little one..."
He cooed, again using long fingers to peel him from the cloth. At his words and quiet reassurance, the little Brown slowly uncurled itself from hi, and crawled onto his hand, careful to be gentle incase His would get mad that he was slightly clawing him.
"Hey there, hush now. It's alright..."
Whispering reassurances, he settled his back down against the wall, and brushing white blond hair from his eyes, Hauze cradled the Brown against his chest, lifting up a cold meatroll up to him. The creature ate it hesitantly, eyes often darting back up to Hauze's face to make sure that His wouldn't get mad. Wrapped up in the little creature, he cast around for a name.
"Ritan."
The little creature paused from his nibbling to look up at his and chirp, the first none afraid sound he had made.
"Well, glad you like it at least."

The Annoyance Bronze was far from ready to Impress yet. Emitting a high-pitched chittering sound, he decided to march around the sands, flashing his dark metallic hide. This was hardly a catwalk strut, however. Instead, the fire lizard was on a different sort of mission. Some of his sibling Hatchlings were behaving in a silly manner. Poking his nose around eggs, the Annoyance Bronze discovered the Confusion Flitter. He reared back in surprise, as uncertain as the onlookers as to the actual colour of this Hatchling.
This attitude was not at all appreciated by the Confusion Flitter. More than a little disgruntled by the reaction of seemingly everyone present, the blue-green fire lizard screeched at the Annoyance Bronze, who had thus far lived up to his name. The bronze, in turn, decided it was time for his sibling to stop feeling so hard done by and find a human partner with food. Food would relieve all confusion! With that, the Annoyance Bronze rushed forward. This frightened the Confusion Flitter, who immediately darted away and off the sands, scurrying to hide behind Calysta, then promptly climbing to her shoulder. Surely she would recognize this lovely green for what she was!
The grayish Surprise Brown watched meekly as the Annoyance Brown stalked away from him, then cheeped apologetically once more. He was upset that he had caused such an upstart in the Hatching of his siblings, and he resolved that he'd make it up to them all by helping out in some way. But how?
Suddenly, he was bumped by the Euphoria Egg, which was happily rocking now in an effort to Hatch. Tiny cracks were forming and running in fissures along its form. The Surprise Brown stared in fascination at this progress for a long moment, before an idea popped into his rather slow mind. This was how he could help! Immediately, he set to, digging his little talons into the cracks in the Euphoria Egg. However, whenever the Egg rocked away from him, he chose that moment to yank it towards him, countering its efforts. Thus, the Hatching was delayed, if anything, but the Surprise Brown was oblivious to this, delighted by his 'aid'.
Finally, the Euphoria Egg slipped away to crash against the Depression Egg, which had barely begun to feebly rock. Out popped the Euphoria Brown, who bugled happily to be free and rolling in the sand, a position most flitters would have squawked at. The other Egg, though cracked, had not revealed its occupant. The Euphoria Brown seemed to fill the chaotic Hatching scene with calm, as he picked himself off the sand and cheerfully unfolded his tangled, uninjured wings. With a flourish and a flutter, he left no time in his decision-making, sweeping eagerly to Caltrain's side and crooning in pleasure. He had found the perfect human to feed him! Life was good!
The Surprise Brown sat on the sand for some moments, appearing rather dazed. He had not expected that. However, he did feel much better, having helped out (or so he believed). Thus, the flitter decided that it was time for him to heed his growling stomach. Although he had only intended to leap towards his person, his wings extended on his own, and before he knew it, the Surprise Brown was attached to Sun Yew's face. His claws were not dug in, but he was obviously in shock. He chirped weakly, wondering if this human would care to feed him?
