The morning had dawned...grey and dull. The light penetrating his weyr had been so weak that M'kel hadn't woken at his usual time (which was later than most of the Weyr anyways), so the morning was nearly gone by the time he arose and dressed. The sight that met his eyes was depressing to say the least, for a heavy rain obscured the Bowl and dampened the prospect of flying. Although he had hoped to escape the Weyr today, there were always duties to be done within, and he was not eager to go between after such a soaking.
Thus, the Weyrleader proceeded hastily down to the Lower Caverns, slipping on the rain-slicked stone stairs in the process. He stepped into the shelter of the dining area still grumbling over his smarting rear and moved into the kitchens, eyes scouring the counters for leftover breakfast foods. It appeared that most of it had been tossed to the canines by now, and lunch was still in the early stages of preparation. Wiping the glowering expression from his face, he turned his mournful plight to one of the ladies. A charming smile and playful query was all that was necessary, and the bronzerider was moving to a table with his hands full of fruit and cold meatrolls. Yes, he definitely still had it.
Slicking back wet hair from his face, M'kel began to munch on the meatrolls with zeal. Even cold, they were still tasty, and klah could give him the heat they failed to. His hazel eyes scanned the Caverns, curious as to who else might be taking a late breakfast. His position had placed him on awkward terms with some of the dragonriders, but there were still a couple he had companionable relationships with. After all, a good conversation might further delay those menial Weyr tasks he had yet to do.

Skye crossed her arms and glared at the rain, as if that would do any good, but glared she did. She only enjoyed rainy days when she had someone to keep her warm in bed and she had no such luck this day. She sighed and blew a strand of her hair out of her eyes, her bottom lip pouting out. She had missed breakfast, having lounged in a hot bath all morning. still only dressed in a robe. Her green was in a foul temper today and it was effecting Skye.
Skye sighed and turned to get dressed, might as well get something to snack on and maybe find some company. She dressed in a simple dark green shirt that was a little loose on her and a pair of black pants. She decided sandals would be the better choice then getting her boots all soggy. She braided her hair, the curls unruly because of the weather. She tied a light green ribbon about her neck like a choker necklace before heading toward the dining hall, carful of the slipper stones.
She was thoroughly damp by the time she reached the kitchen and to make things worse there was no breakfast left overs. She pouted and was able to beg a nice ripe red fruit from one of the kitchen lads, kissing him soundly on the cheek in thanks, laughing softly as he blushed from head to toe. She took a bite of the fruit as she glanced about the cavern, licking an escaping drop of juice from the corner of her mouth as she spotted M'kel. She made her way toward the Weyrleader with a smile "Good Day dear Weyrleader," she said with a grin.

L'kas had finished breakfast a while ago and was simply sitting in the Dining Cavern, listening to the soft buzz of the few people remaining in the Hall and sounds of the kitchen folk preparing lunch. He leaned back on his bench, lightly drumming his fingertips on the table top thoughtfully.
He noted M'kel's entrance and watched the man for a moment. He was once again thankful that his Seath hadn't flown the Queen, he didn't envy M'kel's position. He felt some respect for the man having to deal with Sitareh's temper. He arched an eyebrow slightly as the woman approached M'kel.
L'kas smirked and shook his head as he stood. He casually made his way over to M'kel. He remembered seeing that woman before, a green rider. He smiled and saluted M'kel, figuring he might help his fellow bronze rider out. After all when Sitareh was in a tizzy the whole weyr suffered and no man honestly deserved to be in the line of fire. Not only that, but L'kas had something he wanted to ask the Weyrleader "M'kel, good to see you about! I was wondering when we had any formation flight practices scheduled."

All that was left of the meatrolls was a few crumbs by the time Skye had entered the Dining Cavern, but M'kel had turned his full attention immediately to the redfruit and thus failed to notice her. At her approach, he glanced up and hastily swallowed the fruit remaining in his mouth. He grinned appreciatively, looking forward to a distraction from the dismal weather outside. After all, Skye was a very pleasant distraction.
"And good day to you, Skye," M'kel replied, patting the empty bench beside him in invitation. "Have you been kept busy since your arrival?" He didn't doubt it; with dragonriders in such short supply, there were plenty of tasks for all. Most of the time, he was able to avoid being too occupied by chores, but every time Sitareh's temper flared, his workload would suddenly double. How mysterious.
As another dragonrider called his name, M'kel turned abruptly from his study of the greenrider. He was relieved to spot L'kas, one of the few bronzeriders who hadn't remained bitter over his rise to power. "Likewise, L'kas," he grinned. "Flight schedules? Ahhhh...right." His eyes airily avoided the other dragonrider for a moment, flitting about the Caverns. "I was....just about to do those. This morning. In fact." He chuckled, smiling even more broadly in order to convince the other.

Skye smiled brightly as he patted the seat beside him and she carefully slid onto the bench beside him. She was careful not to brush up against him teasingly as she would have liked to. She had heard of Sitareh's temper and truly didn't want the Weyrwoman's wrath upon her, but she also knew her green was feeling proddy and would probably rise soon.
She laughed softly and nodded as she leaned forward slightly to better look at M'kel "Very busy! But I do like it hear. We seem to have a fine bunch of weyrlings from the Queen's clutch," she said, having looked over the Weyrlings to satisfy her curiosity. She took a bite of her red fruit and slowly licked the juices from her lips. She was about to speak again when another rider approached. She arched an eyebrow slightly as she looked him over. She remembered L'kas from the past and nodded to the bronze rider. He was handsome, but she was more interested in M'kel and the weyrleader had not told her to stay away.
She tilted her head as she politely listened to the two bronze riders speaking. She smiled and lightly patted M'kel's arm "I'll help if you need it," she offered as she tilted her head toward the Weyrleader, her braid slipping across her shoulder to brush against M'kel's arm.

L'kas nodded to Skye, remembering her now that she could see her more clearly. He chuckled softly and turned his attention to M'kel "I was just curious about it. I know the Weyrlings can't fly just yet, but I don't think the full riders should get out of practice. Thread could happen at anytime and we don't need panic in the weyr," He said with a chuckle and a shake of his head "I am sorry for interrupting," he said with a salute to both of them.

As Skye complimented the Weyrlings from the first Araelen Weyr Clutch, M'kel couldn't help but smile, proud of his Tirenth. He had been quite disconcerted while the Hatching had been occurring, and all who had attended would remember the stress of that night, for it hadn't appeared at the time that the Hatchlings would be strong, healthy Weyrlings at all. Sitareh hadn't spoken him for at least a sevenday afterwards, as if she was blaming Tirenth and him for the queer occurrences on the Hatching Ground. However, the Weyrlings' growth appeared healthy and strong, so there was no doubt left in M'kel's mind about Tirenth's 'conceptive' abilities.
"Yes, they are a fine bunch," he agreed, nodding firmly to emphasize this fact. "They will be needed when Thread falls; I only hope they are full grown by then." The alternative made his stomach feel rather queasy, for the Weyr would not be flying at full strength even if all of the Weyrlings matured. If a quarter of the fighting dragons were only yearlings... The Weyrleader shook his head, choosing not to focus on such stressful thoughts for the time being.
At L'kas's comments, M'kel couldn't help but stiffen slightly, for a fellow bronzerider should not have to remind the Weyrleader himself that practice for Threadfighting was necessary. The fact that this was a valid observation meant little to the young man, for he felt somewhat guilty for not organizing the necessities sooner. With all of his stress over Thread, the bronzerider was surprised that he had not done so already. "Yes, of course, L'kas," he replied, a thoughtful expression on his youthful features. "I'll be writing up wing formations promptly."
He returned the other rider's salute, then turned gratefully to Skye. Her offer of help sparked a mischeivous twinkle in his eyes, and M'kel couldn't help but shiver slightly when her hair brushed his arm. "I could certainly use some help," he murmured. "I was planning on working on it this evening in fact, if you're not busy..." He quirked his brows slightly, curious as to her response.

Skye smiled politely to L'kas as he left, but as soon as his back was turned she stuck her tongue out at his retreating back. How dare he be so rude to M'kel. The Weyrleader was a busy man and had many important things constantly on his mind. She shook her head and turned her attention back to M'kel and smiled brightly. She tilted her head as she listened to his offer and her smile turned mischievous "No, I do not have any other plans for this evening, I am quite free to assist you. I know that it can be a difficult task in making those lists," she said, carefully schooling her features into a somber mask, but her eyes still twinkling with laughter and mischief.
She rested her elbow on the table then lightly rested her chin in her cupped hand as she looked at M'kel, a smile lifting the corners of her mouth "What time would you like to to arrive to assist you with the list?" she asked "And should I bring some wine to help us stay awake for such a difficult task?" she asked, arching an eyebrow slightly.

The young bronzerider couldn't help but grin as Skye stuck her tongue out at L'kas's retreating figure. He appreciated her support for him, and this only improved his mood further. Besides, she looked quite cute and impish in such a playful act. At her commiseration over the difficulty of creating wing lists, M'kel, too, schooled his expression to nod solemnly, greatly enjoying this game. The corners of his mouth twitched as he restrained another broad grin, but he attempted to look thoughtful rather than highly amused.
In response to her queries, M'kel cleared his throat and glanced around briefly before leaning in conspiratorially to reply. "Actually, I would prefer to meet in your Weyr," he murmured, playing it very cool, although his eyes easily gave him away. "After all, we don't need Sitareh haranguing us about keeping it quiet..." The Weyrleader nearly laughed at the double meaning of those words.
"And wine...would be lovely. I can bring a bottle over, since you're supplying the locale. We'll definitely need it in order to get through those wings lists...Faranth knows how long it might take. With the number of dragons in the Weyr, it might be an all-night affair." Oh, but he was smooth!

"Ah, yes I see your point," she said softly, leaning closer to speak softly in a somber tone though her eyes sparkled with mischief. A slow smile tugged at the corners of her lips, easily catching his double meaning. She laughed softly and reached out to briefly touch his arm, her touch light and inviting.
She withdrew her hand and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear "I agree it could take all night and well into the next morning," she said with all seriousness as she looked thoughtful, but her eyes still twinkled with mirth "And I do enjoy a nice crisp white wine, it can definitely help on stay awake for such a difficult task."
