ATTENTION WEYRLINGS
You should all be very proud of your dragons. Despite the various minor lacerations inflicted by wherries that fought back, this morning's first hunt went very well. Everyone ate ... and that is more than I could say for my own Weyrling class's first hunt.
From this day forward, there will be feeder wherries, and as your dragons grow larger, herdbeasts, in the training pens. This arrangement will remain intact until the dragons are large enough to hunt in the regular feeding area. Now that our young dragons have discovered they can hunt, they may not wish to eat killed meat again.
The Beastmaster has, however, guaranteed that there will be staff at your disposal to help you slaughter if necessary. No dragon will go hungry for any reason.
Classroom lecture sessions will commence after the noon meal each day, with sixth and seventh days free for your leisure time.
Many of you may have noticed that your young dragons are gaining wing strength. Each morning, therefore, I would like you to encourage your dragons to begin consciously building flight muscles by exercising specifically for that purpose. Swimming is an excellent source of flight-strength building, and I will instruct you with other similar activities.
Pardon me ... Syth informs me that he would be better at that, since I do not have wings.
Starting with tomorrow morning the hunt training pens will be at your disposal for whenever your dragons wish to feed.
Tomorrow afternoon, your classroom lectures begin. First topic: dragon anatomy and physiology. Bring writing materials. There will be periodic exams.
