Impatience. Elkie knew that she shouldn't be impatient for the Hatching- after all, the queen hadn't even risen yet!- but she couldn't help herself. Anyway, she thought guiltily, she should probably just be grateful she was even Searched in the first place.
Elkie looked around, frowning slightly. Where on Pern could she set up a trapeze around here? she thought, looking at the glum barracks. She could probably do the non-aerial dancing, but there was no room here to hang a trapeze and its swivel. She could probably store it by raising it to the ceiling, but it would probably annoy other candidates.
She didn't even have the right materials. She had packed a swivel, even though it took up most of an entire sack, but she needed the rope and bar...
Sighing, Elkie wandered out into the hallway, unsure of what to do. She didn't even know anyone here. So she just stood, uncertain of where to go or what to do, but unwilling to admit that she was lost.

Keldara was hoping fervently for something to happen in the Weyr. Something extravagant or at least mind-boggling, something to keep thoughts of her past away. Thoughts of the fire, thoughts of her cousin, but mostly thoughts of Alphi; she just couldn't take it. The candidate was getting sick of dwelling in the past, always thinking that she's ignoring one of her parent's favorite things to say, but it just seemed to stick. She walked into the hallway of the barracks, eyes searching for something-or someone- to distract here.
And she got what she wanted. Standing right outside of a room was a girl, maybe a little older than her, looking bored. Getting to know other candidates is a good way to keep things off my mind, she thought to herself and slowly walked over. "Hi," she said, her voice quiet like usual. "I'm Keldara, a candidate here." She paused and waited for the other girl to speak. Keldara wasn't nervous- she was never nervous when meeting another person- but she did look a little preoccupied. But hopefully not for long.

Elkie brightened at seeing a new face. Immediately giving off an air of utmost confidence, she smiled at this girl- Keldara, she said her name was. This Keldara seemed quiet. Was she shy? She didn't know- her voice seemed too strong to be shy, but the quietness of it suggested otherwise.
"Hello!" Elkie said cheerfully. "I'm Elkie. I just got here," she added unnecessarily; her packs of clothes and swivel were still slung over her shoulder. "Have you been here long?" she asked, willing to start up a conversation.
She took the two packs from her shoulder and set them on the floor- the swivel was getting heavy, and her strong arms, though not quite to the point of protesting, would rather not hold it up just then. Elkie smiled politely at the other girl.

Focusing on the conversation was allowing Keldara's mind to free from previous thoughts. She smiled back to the other candidate- Elkie- and glanced to her bags. "I've been here for a few days," she replied, "long enough to somewhat know where everything is." She gazed at the other candidate curiously. "What's the swivel for?" Keldara asked.

"Maybe you can show me around then?" Elkie asked cheerfully. The girl seemed nice enough to hopefully oblige her request.
Surprised at Keldara's question, Elkie looked down at her bags, where her swivel was poking through a little. "Oh!" she laughed. "It's for a trapeze," she informed her fellow candidate. "Which reminds me- do you know where there would be room to maybe set it up so I could practice? It doesn't need to be tall of a room, but tall enough for this contraption and the trapeze to hang down from it..."
She looked at the big lump of metal fondly. She could hardly wait to set it up and start dancing again! Which made her think of her goal... she was that much closer! She grinned.
"So, where are you from?" she asked curiously.

Keldara laughed. "Hopefully," she replied, then thought for a moment. "I haven't seen any tall rooms, but I haven't checked out the whole Weyr yet. We may be able to ask a dragon rider if their is. If their off duty, they might help," she said. It was true; the riders in the Weyr, for some odd reason, did have a tendency to talk to Candidates if they had enough spare time. Like the bronze rider, M'kel. She smiled slightly.
The smile flickered for a moment as Elkie asked about her home. She looked to the other candidate and smiled. "I came from a place a ways away, near the coast; a Dolphineer Hall. What about you?" she inquired.

Elkie pondered this for a moment. "Would the riders mind?" she asked doubtfully. She didn't see why anyone important would want to go room-hunting. "We could also explore a bit," she suggested.
"Dolphineer?" she asked curiously. "So did you have a dolphin?" she asked eagerly. She would also like to dance with dolphins someday, but dancing with a dragon looked like something more radical. So dragons came first, and she had the rest of her life with a dragon to try out dancing with dolphins. "Are they really smart?" she asked with a grin. She heard they could talk, and always had wanted to hear them.
"Oh, I'm pretty much a nomad," she laughed. "I travelled with a caravan. Entertainment," she added, gesturing to her swivel. "I specialize in aerial dancing."

Keldara grinned at the prospect of exploring. "We should probably try exploring first," she agreed.
The candidate shook her head. "No, I was still a candidate when I was searched. But my father had a dolphin, Alphi, and she gave me rides a lot," she replied. "And yes, dolphins are smart; they talk, and I think they might even be smarter than some of the people on Pern." She smiled.
"Really? An ariel dancer?" She paused to look to Etoile's bags. "Right, the swivel. Are you planning on trying to with dragons?" she inquired lightly.

((My character's name is Elkie, not Etoile... ^.~))
"Exploring is good!" Elkie nodded, looking around, and grinned sheepishly. "I'm sorry, I just need to put my things in the barracks. I'll be out in a sec!"
She hurried in, placing her bags on an unclaimed bunk, then darted back out. Elkie winked. "So, where to first?" she asked.
Elkie listened to Keldara intently. "Well, it isn't hard to be smarter than some of the people on Pern!" she laughed, "But it must have been amazing to ride on dolphins..." Her eyes gave off a dreamlike, faraway look, thinking about dancing with dolphins. But she came back to reality quickly; she was after the dragons.
Nodding, Elkie grinned. "Yep. Aerial work... You know the stuff I'm talking about, right?" she asked patiently. Sometimes people didn't understand the difference between just plan old trapeze swinging to aerial dancing. But she was happy to explain the difference. After all, aerial dancing wasn't well known, she though with slight sadness.
"Most definitely with the dragons," she added, "but not so much trapeze. But we'll try doing that when it comes," she added cryptically with a mischievous smile. She looked down the hallway. "Shall we go down here?" she asked curiously.

((Sorry. My bad.))
Keldara nodded and waited until Elkie came back out again. Then, she smiled at the reference to dolphins. "You don't even know. Swimming with dolphins is so much fun," she said with a grin.
She frowned. "Ariel...Not neccessarily, though I think I might have a clue...Why don't you explain it while we explore?" she suggested, glancing down the hallway she pointed to. "Yeah, this is the way we go. I think our best bet would be to go to the Lower Caverns." She stretched for a second before turning to her and started to slowly walk down the hallway.
