Application:
Character Name: Remmekk (R'mek)
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Preference: Females
Previous Position: Part of a traders caravan
Current Position: Candidate (primarily dragon, 'cause of the two huge clutches comin' up x])
Appearance: He stands at just over 6 foot, with a strong built, though more tendered to swiftness and stamina than brute strength. His skin is somewhat tanned, but not overly so, as he spends much of his life outside. Dark hair occasionally falls in front of his face, masking the soft eyes and strong features he possesses. Contrasting somewhat with his dark hair his eyes are a bright new-grass green, flecked with the occasional amber. It is these eyes that reveal his capability of easy lying, though they never reveal exactly when he is doing so.
Personality: Perhaps the most accurate phrase to sum him up is "Dark Horse," as what you see is often quite different from what you get with him. His character is very complex, so much so that even he doesn't know what he is capable of.
He is not overly ambitious, preferring to take life as it comes and take it all in his stride, adapting well to multiple situations. He is equally comfortable giving orders and taking charge as taking orders from one he recognises as the authority. Any orders he is given will be carried out, one way or another, without grumbling, and for the most part they will be done well to the best of his abilities.
He is not the most sociable of characters, and will rarely instigate the conversation unless you've attracter his attentions somehow. For the most part in conversation he is quite agreeable, charming even, quite the opposite to the dark brooder who was probably leaning against the wall watching the comings and goings a bare few minutes before. But below the charming exterior his mind will be working furiously, rarely stopping or slowing, many of his thoughts to the contrary to what he is saying. He cold quite easily be saying "no, it's not a problem, it wasn't your fault" while his mind is already coming up with suitable punishments. He doesn't get angry, he gets even; rarely loosing temper and never loosing reason. If he takes a dislike to you though you are quite likely to see his darker side if you're unlucky enough to meet him on your own.
But despite all his pretenses, he is more than capable of caring, best demonstrated in his attitude to his fire lizards and his runner he rescued and reared, and to most animals in general. Unfortunately, few get to see this part of his, hidden as it is behind who he wants you to see. He maintains friends at a bare minimum, if none at all, and rarely crushes on anyone, and they'd never know it if he did.
History: His mother, Emmeli, died not long after giving birth to her third child, when Remmekk was 5 turns old. He remained at Celos Sea Hold with his father, brother and sister for a further 2 years before his Erikk was reposted, as a Journeyman Harper, at another Hold. The Hold was far away from Celos, and since he had no home at Celos or wife to leave the children with, he took them along. Joining a Trader Caravan, they began their journey to their new home in the west.
All was going well with the Traders until a month into their journey, when a rockfall in the mountains hit the caravan, crushing several people and a caravan, his father and little sister included. Since the lads were no strangers to the Traders by now, and they were down a few people now too, they offered to let Remmekk and 6 turn old Kemi stay with them and work when they could; Remmekk agreed, so he and his brother joined the caravan. As they grew they made friends with the others in the caravan, particularly Kemi, who formed a particularly close relationship with one of the women who had lost her 3 turn old son in the rockfall. It took a little longer for them to fully accept the more reserved character of Remmekk, who made few attempts at friendship and would spent some hours mourning the death of his family. Even so, they would never quite trust the recalcitrant youth.
Gradually though they did grow to accept Remmekk as he grew and began to work as part of the force, running errands and carrying messages, and recognising the potential of the intelligent young boy. Two turns later, as the caravan was heading along the southern coastline and through unfamiliar territory, and Remmek was acting among the scouts on a small runner, when he stumbled across a sandy cove in the coastline, and it was proposed that the group could take a break here and camp the night, for it was getting late. Left at the cove as his companion headed back to tell the main caravan, Remmekk began to explore the beach. It was not long before he stumbled across the flitter clutch. As he called out to the others the eggs began to rock. By the time they got there the hatching had already begun, and Remmekk had managed to attract a little brown from the clutch, as had several others who arrived with food. He named it Riki, somewhat after his father and sister.
Life continued, and he and his brother took more and more part in the lives of the traders and, though he turned out to be no good at selling, he was very good at calculation the profits and sending messages to other parts of the caravan, which he also trained Riki to do too, and he had an eye for spotting the safest routs through the mountains. He often sang for the group to, his voice he inherited from his father, but unfortunately he was never cut out to be a harper. He quite enjoyed life on the move, but still the by-now teenager didn't entirely trust his compatriots, and many of them neither trusted him.
Though he never outright disobeyed the group, the young man had his own aims and ideals, somewhat more dishonest than the other traders. Often when they were in the holds small item started to go missing, usually food, that were not really noticed, and if they were he was far away by then. But as he grew more ambitious, he moved on to bigger things, quite often small Mark pieces, and before long he had built up a small stash. These he would spend at the holds and any gathers they attended. Riki played no small part in these little missions.
By the age of 15 Turns the lad would spend much of his time with the Runners and draybeasts that the Traders kept with them, and when one of the mares who had recently given birth died, in an uncharacteristic show of concern for the foals life, refused to let the others kill the filly too, and offered to care for it as his own; they need have nothing to do with it. Grudgingly they agreed, on that condition. So much of Remmekks life from then on was spent working and raising the foal, and much of the Marks he "earned" also went on things for the foal, named Dusk. As she grew he put her to use, having her carry increasing loads until she was finally big enough for him to ride at two turns. Remmekk was far closer to her than he had ever been to the rest of the caravan, besides his brother, who was now more distant than he had ever been, mostly down to Remmekk. Kemi was far more comfortable as a member than he, and he was glad of it for him, yet was comfortable knowing that he would never be equal to his brother in that instance.
But his already tenuous relationship with the caravan took a turn for the worse with the unexpected death of its leader. The man who succeeded him was even less trusting of Remmekk and made it clear that he disliked him, going so far to blame Remmekk for most anything that went wrong, to the point that Remmek gathered all his things one night and left, with little more than a note Kemi of his departure. He took everything he owned, packed them onto Dusk, and never looked back.
He carried on traveling, until one day they finally found the coast. Much to his surprise they emerged from the undergrowth and practically stumbled upon a sleeping blue dragon. The few times that he'd seen dragons in the sky he had not believed his eyes, dismissing them as strange wherries. But here was proof positive. What's more, he had woken the beast and its rider.
Apologising to the rider, he turned to go and leave the pair in peace, when he was called back. The Bluerider then told him that, though they were not officially on search, his dragon thought that he would be a suitable candidate for the upcoming hatching. At first skeptical, he tried to pass it off, but the rider grew more insistent, pointing out to see where, sure enough, the Weyr mountain could be clearly seen. At Remmekks question, the rider agreed to fly Dusk over too, as the 19 Turner refused to go without her, Riki starting a ruckus as he sensed his bonded's distress.
And so here Remmekk is now, a Candidate in the Weyr to stand for Impression.
