Kyrian leaned back against the tree he was sitting under, nestled comfortably between the large roots. He tilted his head back until the back of his head rested against the trunk of the tree, half closing his eyes as he looked at the sun filtering through the leaves. He smiled to himself and closed his eyes as he relished the feel of the dappled sun shine on his face, much preferring this to the stuffiness of the male candidate barracks. The warmth of the late afternoon air had made him shed his tunic and was now wearing his sleeveless under shirt, revealing his well toned arms.
He sighed contentedly as he lowered his head and opened his eyes, looking around himself at the lake, watching the dragons that were bathing there. He tilted his head as he studied them, reaching beside himself to pick up a small chisel and a nearly finished piece of carving. He shifted to sit up straighter as he watched the dragons bathing, his brows furrowed slightly as he concentrated.
After a long moment his nodded to himself and turned his attention to the piece of wood in his hands. It was not much bigger then his two hands together both in height and width. It was shaped like a dragon. Beside him was an already finished piece, also shaped like a dragon and the same size.
The piece in his hands was that of a dragon sitting on back haunches and its tail curved around its back legs. Its front legs were resting on a rock and its head was raised as if looking up at the sky, searching. Its wings were folded neatly along its back. Each ridge along the dragon's head, neck and back were carefully carved and the rock was nearly complete.
The piece resting beside him was much different. The dragon stood and had its neck arched gracefully, wings flared open as it ready to take flight. Its muzzle was open, as if bugling a challenging cry to all that would hear.
Kyrian smiled down at the piece in his hands and took the small chisel and began running it along the edge of the wings to make them more noticeable rather then them just blending into the back.
As he worked he would pause and look toward the lake and any other place he could see a dragon resting, to study them so that he would be able to get the details just right. After all these were to be gifts to the two Queens riders he had heard of, but not met yet.

(ooc: I've been Um-ing and Ah-ing for days now wether to join this thread, so here I am at last x]\)
To be walking across grass again for the first time in weeks was a great feeling, one that he hadn't expected to feel. Larikev usually much preferred the sand on the beaches of his Hold, but after weeks of walking over rock and dirt only, since he arrived at the Weyr in fact, was getting tiresome, even to the apprentice-dolphineer-come-candidate. Briefly he wondered why he hadn't come here before, like it almost wasn't there. It wasn't even off limits to him!
Absently kicking a clod of earth that dared to be in his way, he bent to pick up a particularly long grass that had, until then, been growing next to it, almost dislodging the metallic lump curled on his shoulders. The tiny bronze, only now a little bigger than his hand, squawked at its rude awakening, chiding him for his stupidity, digging his claws into Kev's shoulder for good measure, and balance. Shards, he really should get some of those shoulder pads that he knew were about for just such a purpose. He'd quite naively thought that he wouldn't need that, as his bronze was not normally that vindictive. Maybe it was because he hadn't been fed all that long ago. But then, with growing flitters, that could as well have been an age ago. Even now he had a spare meat roll in his pocket, just in case his got hungry again.
Standing again, much more carefully this time, he carried on walking toward the lake, twirling the grass in his fingers. Settling again with a grumble, the flit wound his long tail around Kev's neck this time, pushing his head as far into his hair as it cold get.
Reaching the sand shore of the lake, he stopped, regarding the shimmering blue expanse before him. He could see several dragons and their riders enjoying themselves, having a bath or simply enjoying the cool of the waters and the warmer wether of spring time. Reaching his hands up to his shoulder, he unwound the lizard from his hair and neck, gently placing it onto the warm sand, also leaving the piece of grass next to it. The bronze grumbled, but stretched out in the sand, apparently falling back asleep again.
Grinning, Larikev also lowered himself into the sand, flopping into its soft embrace, closed his eyes, and for a moment simply enjoyed the sunshine.
A curious cheep, followed by a stream of mental images, woke him from this reverie. Propping himself up onto his elbows, he twisted slightly to follow the sound to his fire lizard. He wasn't that far, behind Kev and a little to his right. He was staring curiously at something. With a start Kev realised that there was someone there, hiding in the roots of a tree. He hadn't noticed him sitting there before then, and probably wouldn't if not for the little one.
Hi there! he called amiably to the other lad, whom he was sure must have seen him long before he saw the other, raising an arm to wave too. He refocussed his attention on what his flitter was looking at, now no longer the lad, but something sitting beside him. It was as if his flitter was looking in a mirror at a reflection of himself, everything from the pose to the light colour was practically the same. Except that his flitter was moving, which puzzled him slightly; the other was still as a statue. He chuckled at that thought as he realised that what he was looking at was a statue, it was just his flitter trying to imitate its pose, that of taking off.
Hauling himself to his feet, he walked over to the man sitting in the roots of the tree, stopping a respectful distance in front of him and assuming his usual slightly slumped pose, his hands gong to his pockets.
He's very interested in your statue over there... he started to say, before his conversation skills deserted him again. I... I think he's trying to work out why the other lizard is so still and smells like wood, he said by way of compliment. Seeing the other work in progress clutches in the other boys hands, he continued. They're very life-like, you have great skill. He pulled a hand out his pocket, was about to offer it to the other as he realised that he would have to stretch to reach it, let it fall to his side instead, sticking to a verbal introduction only. I'm Larikev, or Kev, doesn't matter to me. He grinned.

(Thanks for joining and you post is great.)
Kyrian looked up when he heard someone coming closer to his spot, smiling to himself as the boy settled down with his firelizard. He turned his attention back to the nearly finished piece in his hands, not blaming the other boy for enjoying the sun, it was a beautiful day.
His brow arched slightly when he heard the chirp from the boy's firelizard. He looked up and tilted his head, watching the bronze imitate the pose of the statue beside him. He grinned and looked up as the lizard's owner called out. "Hello!" he said cheerfully, dusting wood shavings from his lap.
He carefully stood from his resting place as Larikev introduced himself. "I'm Kyrian, or Ky, I'll answer to either one," he said with a lopsided grin as he stepped forward, holding his hand out to Kev.
He shook his head and looked toward the statue in his hand "I'm passably god, but I'm still only an apprentice. I would have made it to journeyman status if I'd stayed home, but I was intrigued when a rider told me I had been searched," he smiled and looked up at Kev.
He glanced down at the bronze and at his finished piece of work, chuckling. "He's a handsome bronze," he said as he leaned down to pick up the wood on the ground. He looked at the two, then back up at Kev.
"I made them as gifts for the two queen riders, you know to show my respect," he explained the reason for the two pieces, grinning. "Though I wouldn't mind doing a piece of your bronze if you think he'd pose for me and if I can get my hands on more good wood," he said, tilting his head to look at Kev to see what he thought.

Seeing the other stand and hold out his hand, Kev raised his hand again to shake it, saying It's nice to meet you Ky.
Listening to the brief summary of the others past, he couldn't help but chuckle about it, being so similar sounding to his own. Another of the crafts then, except that I was apprenticed to a different craft. I had no reason to stay when I was searched, so I just came straight away. He frowned. Well, at least that little piece of recent history, he highly doubted it would be anything similar before that.
He brought his head up again as the other spoke, a little startled out of his memories, yet glad to be brought back from them. They weren't always pleasant to dwell on. He grinned his thanks, and would have voiced them except that his bronze chose that moment to alight his shoulder and rub his head affectionately against his ear. Grin broadening, Kev reached up to tickle the minute eye ridge of the flitter, loosening the tail gently from his neck with the other hand.
I'm sure they'd love them. I'd never have thought something like that. But then, I'd guess they wouldn't be overly pleased about being dragged down to a beach to greet some dolphins that I'm not even sure exist. His grin turned slightly ironic, maybe they would. His craft wasn't exactly overly well known, even now.
The offer took him by surprise. Yes, I'm sure he'll pose for you, if you want. He's only a hatchling, but he's the most patient creature I've ever met. He turned his head a little to face the bronze on his shoulder, pausing in his stroking. Would you like that? Would you pose for Ky? He sent images of the carvings to the flitter, implying that it would be him. It only sat down, cocking its head at Kev in confusion and crooned at him. He tried again, trying to imagine Ky actually carving the wood in front of the lizard. He stopped crooning, conveyed thoughts of understanding to Kev.
He laughed. I think he understands what that means. The lizard chirped and looked at Kyrian curiously, before puffing his chest out and shuffling his wings into position, looking for all the world like a queen dragon. That a good enough pose? he jerked a thumb in the lizards direction, chuckling.

Kyrain chuckled at the little flit as he posed, nodding to Kev. "That would be a fine pose indeed, but I'm afraid I don't have anything to sketch it with and no wood to carve with," he said, smiling apologetically. "As soon as I get my hands on some I'll let you know, we're in the same barracks after all," he said with a grin.
He looked down at the piece in his hand then back up at Kev. "I hope the two gold riders like them, I'm just not sure when I will be able to give them to them, I know they are busy," he sighed softly and shrugged.
"How long have you been here at the weyr? I haven't had much of a chance to go exploring yet," he said as he tucked his chisel carefully into his pocket, keeping his attention on the other boy.
(Sorry for the crudtastic post)

Shame, though I understand your problem there, he raised an eyebrow in mock irony, turning to look at the bronze on his shoulder. You can stop that now.
The flit looked from one to the other for a few seconds, then lay back down with a little "Hmph" of disappointment, then settled to regard Kyrian curiously.
I'm sure they'd be thrilled with them, providing they're not overly busy at the time. I know I would be. Will be. He said, grinning. Little bronzy here's certainly happy to be involved too. He frowned, adding as an afterthought: I really should get around to giving him a name. Can't go on calling him bronzy his whole life.
Me? I've been here a few weeks now. Him, he said, indicating the flitter, five days. And we've still hardly met anyone else. The barracks always seem mostly deserted, with the nice weather now, I should think. The forest and beaches are lovely though. And the lake of course, but it's usually busy here, as you can probably see.
He paused, trying to think what to say next, managing to look somewhat like he was floundering. So, where have you been so far then? Providing you can get away from chores for long enough, he mock grimaced at the thought of the mountain of chores the candidates all seemed to have. Wether they did them or not was another matter, however.
(ooc: No probs, same problem here x])

At the mention of chores Kyrian made a face, wrinkling his nose. "Other then doing those dreaded chores I've only had a chance to explore around the lake," he said, shaking his head.
He looked toward the water where dragons were bathing or relaxing, smiling. He tilted his head as he looked back at Larikev, chuckling. "I suppose as a rider you're not weighed down with chores as boring and tedious as we have. I can't wait to be able to soar in the sky with one of those beasts," he said with a nod toward the dragons.
He regarded the little bronze on Kev's shoulder and grinned. "How hard are they to take care of?" he asked.

He glanced up into the sky. Yeah, me neither. Must be a wonderful feeling. He sighed. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.
Kyrian's question brought his thoughts somewhat more down to Pern. Not that hard, once you get into it.I suppose how much trouble they are depends on their personality. This one's pretty good, but others aren't so. They need a lot of oiling, or their skin goes flakey, every day or so, usually more. And they eat a lot.
At the mention of food the little bronzes attention perked, his head shooting up from the clawed foot he was using to scratch an itch, trilling. Thoughts of hunger started to pervade Larikev's thoughts, not quite insistent, but not hesitant either.
He grinned, reaching around to his back pocket and fishing out the meatroll. Guess I shouldn't have mentioned food, he's due for a feed anyhow. Raising his other arm he waited until the flitter climbed onto it before moving over to the roots where Kyrian had been concealed before, placing the bronze on the nearest. He digs his claws in if I feed him on my shoulder, he explained while breaking off little bits of the meatroll and posting it to the lizard. While he was chewing Kev took the opportunity to sit down in the grass. He posted another piece of meatroll into its waiting mouth.
You should add your name to the list when a queen next mates, then you might get one for yourself. Hopefully you'll be better at naming it that I am, he said grinning broadly and looking up at Kyrian.

(I think your post was really good, a lot better then the short one of mine before it.))
Kyrian smiled as he sat down in the grass across from Kev, tilting his head as he watched the little bronze eat. He chuckled softly and nodded. "I bet those claws don't feel to good when they dig in," he said.
He watched for a moment then looked toward Kev when mentioned putting his name on a list. "I'll have to do that, but I'm afraid I'm not good at naming either. I can look at a piece of wood and see what it could be, but as for naming I'm at a lose," he said with a soft chuckle, shaking his head.
"I wonder if caring for this is much different then caring for a dragon?" he asked, shrugging to himself. "I guess it sort of is, I've seen riders oiling their dragons," he said, glancing toward the lake.
(I need to hatch that egg I won during the Easter Egg hunt. I'm going to give it to Ky, I just need to get off my lazy tail and down it ^^'))

No they don't. They hurt, I just haven't gotten around to getting any of my tunics a shoulder pad for him to sit on. Guess I'll just have to put up with it until I do. He sighed, then grinned again, leaning back against the tree.
Well, for a start they're umpteen times bigger, so that means more oiling, and I hear they grow much quicker, so yet more oiling. No wonder riders have no time to provide for themselves, they must spend all their time oiling, he said, laughing. He popped another piece of meatroll into the bronze mouth, then took a piece for himself, offering another to Kyrian. But they do eat less often, I suppose.
He shuffled his position against the tree, moving so he was a bit more into the sun that breached the branches. Shame you're no good at naming, I was hoping you might have some good ideas.
(ooc: Ooh, do you know what colour it will be yet???)
