Character Name: Maurel
Age: Seventeen
Gender: Female
Preference: Female
Previous Position: Assistant Cook
Current Position: Candidate
Appearance: Maurel is a fair-enough looking girl, though the word "girl" truly is the only one that could correctly describe her looks, maturity-wise. She is flat in the chest, flat in the back, and altogether... Flat. Curves just don't happen on her body, but, with that slight misfortune, is the luck of not worrying about gaining much weight, either. At her height, a measly five feet, Maurel needs extra weight like she would need a hole in her head. Her skin is slightly dark, not from a tan, but genes, rather, and a slight splattering of freckles can be barely made out around her nose, under her eyes. Maurel's eyes, meanwhile, are nothing particularly special; they are a deep brown colour, warm and rather motherly, and framed by light eyelashes that are quite identical in hue to her skin.
Maurel's hair, meanwhile, is rather eccentric, to put it daintily. Since she was never one for long locks, and since there was never any reason to look better than fair, she cuts it short constantly. On a normal day, the longest section of her hair brushes the bottom of her neck in the back; in the front, it is much shorter. That's not to say it's not feminine, though; Maurel uses an unsharpened kitchen knife to cut it in clumps, so it has taken on a full, layered look that, strangely enough, gives her a more feminine look than you would think. It's colour is a light brown hue, nothing special, and uneven bangs frame her pointed face.
Personality: Maurel is actually quite the social butterfly; growing up in the kitchens of a medium-sized hold, every day of her life before Araelen was filled with chattering, making friends, and the such. Since Araelen is a little bit less social than the hold’s kitchen, Maurel is slightly starved for attention, and will take any chance she is given to talk and make friends. The good thing about this particular trait of Maurel’s, besides the obvious friends gained, is that she quickly finds out almost anything around the Weyr. Most of the time, it’s senseless gossip, but Maurel is quite willing to hear about so-and-so who was with so-and-so in the closet, just as long as the odd gem comes up.
Outside of her chatter, Maurel is a rather intriguing person to be around- wherever she is, that’s where you can bet something will happen. She’s not particularly brave, but she has mastered the art of getting other people to make things interesting, so that’s always fun. It’s not a talent, per say, but more of a knack that she’s gotten a hold of over the years of being too lazy to carry heavy things or make a particularly tedious dish for the Lord Holder of such-and-such.
History: Maurel grew up in a medium-sized Hold, the daughter of a Trader who had been passing by the Hold one evening, and caught the eye of one particularly excitable Cook out looking for good fruits. Nine months later, Maurel was born, and her father was practically on the other side of Pern. The Lord Holder had a child of his own shortly after Maurel’s birth, an overly-bold girl who never understood that not everyone was lucky enough to not have to work, so the two girls were made to watch over each other. It was Maurel, of course, who had to mostly watch over the other girl, since she was the elder by a few weeks, and they soon became shaky friends. Even when Maurel’s tenth turn rolled around, and she was sent off to the Kitchens to learn to become a Cook at her mother’s hands, the two girls were still relatively close.
That slight friendship, interestingly enough, was what allowed Maurel to be Searched seven Turns later.
It was a warm, bright afternoon at the Hold, and chaos was in the air. Searchriders, looking for anyone and everyone suitable for Searching, were going over the youths of the Hold. Of course, the Lord Holder’s daughter was trying to impress the Riders harder than anyone else there- to become a Candidate, and eventually a Rider, was her current obsession. She was so excited, actually, that she soon became faint, and sent for Maurel to bring her, and a Rider that seemed rather susceptible to her advances, wine. Maurel obliged, but, unfortunately for the Holder’s daughter, caught the eye of the Rider in the process, and was Searched.
Position in Family: Youngest
Pets: None
RP History: Goodness me... I really couldn’t tell you. I’ll take a rough guess and say two or three years, off and on, now, but I couldn’t promise that. It could be longer, and it could be less.
Familiarity with Pern: I’m pretty familiar with Pern, as some of you from the old Lyros site may remember.
How you found out about our site: A PM from a Lyros member.
Candidates Only Section:
Desired Dragon Colour: No preference
Reason for this Preference: I really don’t think it would be right for me to say what colour dragon I think Maurel should get.. I’m not sure, personality-wise, which would suit her, and I don’t want to assume I do. So whatever you think would be best for her, and best for me, that is what I would like best for her.
Preferred Dragon Abilities: Agility, Team Coordination, Search/Rescue
Goodness me, that was painful to write. So sorry about a large portion of this application, I haven't written ten words in months.
