Character Name: Partineil, who became P'neil
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Preference: Females
Previous Position: Journeyman Smith
Current Position: Brownrider
Appearance: Although not tall, P'neil is above average height. That alone would not have made him stand apart, as there are much taller dragonriders. His curly black hair may have shone like a raven's wing, but it wasn't all that unusual either. What drew the eye to P'neil was his broad shoulders, strong as a herdbeast and perfectly suited to his previous Craft. P'neil isn't bulky, so don't think Mr. Universe competitions here, but it's obvious he's strong. Dark, nearly black, blue eyes glitter with intelligence beneath surprisingly delicate, arched brows. His hands are strong and callused first from smithing and then from tossing around bags of firestone. He is dark-skinned, with a pale knife-scar cutting across his left cheek from his ear to just below his jawline.
Personality: P'neil has always been very calm, and very careful in everything he does. This combined with his large size made him seem rather dim-witted, but he is in fact very intelligent. He's just very uncertain of himself, and his decisions. Since Impressing Artoneth he has become much more sure of himself, proving adept at leading other riders both in Fall and out of it. He is unambitious and would much rather follow than lead, but his dragon's fierce nature and terrible ambition has infected him.
History: There isn't much to tell about P'neil's childhood. His father, Faranel, was Journeyman Smith who traveled often with his wife, Otea, and his children. His older brother apprenticed to the Smithcrafthall when P'neil was still young. His older sister married a minor holder, and that same year P'neil was sent to join his brother in the smithcraft. His younger brother went a year later to the Weaver hall. His older brother, who was named after his father Faranel, died of a sickness before finishing his apprenticeship. P'neil reached journeyman status at the age of 17, and was sent to a hold near Artemis Moon Weyr. Within a year, he was Searched, and then his life got interesting.
After two years as a Candidate, he Impressed Artoneth. Even fresh-hatched, the little brown was fierce. He mauled two boys, injuring one so that he later died, before he found His. Little was thought about this, since it was an unfortunate incident that often enough followed Hatchings. Although P'neil was hesitant as a weyrling, the two rose very quickly through the ranks to be one of the best in their class. Everything seemed to be going well for them, despite the fact that P'neil was unusually quick-tempered - people who knew him said he was acting almost like a greenrider who's dragon was ready to Rise. They preformed well even during Fall, and it was thought that they could go as far as Wingsecond or even Wingleader someday.
It was shortly after their graduation into a full-fledged dragon pair that disaster struck. A visitor to the Weyr made the mistake of treating the young dragonpair as if they were still weyrlings, then drinking far too much and ridiculing them. Normally, P'neil would have taken the insults stoically, but Artoneth was furious. The feelings flooded over P'neil and he found himself challenging his insulter. A duel ensued, and P'neil ended up killing the visitor. Luckily the visitor was not a Holder, or he'd have been in a lot more trouble than he was. As it was, the death was just barely ruled an accident and although he was punished, little more came of it. Except, P'neil and Artoneth found that they never advanced beyond the usual rank-and-file, never were trusted with anything important.
Artoneth chafed under their restrictions, and although P'neil was content with this, he found that his dragon's restlessness affected him in unexpected ways. When the rebel dragonriders planned their jump forward in time, Artoneth wrangled an invitation. P'neil turned it down. The other riders jumped forward. Since then, P'neil has second-guessed his decision and become more and more withdrawn from the Weyr. Finally, a couple years after the others left, P'neil quietly disappeared from Artemis Moon Weyr. Artoneth's ambition has not released them yet.
Position in Family: Second oldest of three brothers and four sisters
Pets: none
Alignment: He would prefer to be Loyal, but Artoneth is pushing him to Rebel.
Dragon Colour: Brown
Dragon Appearance: Artoneth is a caramel colour on his legs and underbelly with creamy yellow claws, with a wide stripe of burnt sienna running from his head down to his tail along his back, that same color splattering also onto the caramel of his sides. A dark brown, nearly black mask runs from behind his eyes to the tip of his nose along his jawline. His wings are burnt sienna, but the membranes are a tan somewhat lighter than his belly.
He's just above average size for a brown, so although he has more stamina than many browns, he still can't stay aloft as long as many bronzes. He's thin, almost racy, for his size though, so his speed makes up for his lack of stamina.
Dragon Personality: One word to describe Artoneth would be fierce. He's fiercely loyal to P'neil, fiercely ambitious, fiercely proud, and has a fierce temper. It's in part his loyalty to P'neil that leads to his ambition - in his mind, P'neil deserves the highest of high positions and he would do almost anything to make it so. It's lucky that P'neil steadies him as much as he does or Artoneth's temper would have led him to do something horribly undragonlike, like attacking another dragon or even a human in his anger, anger which often stems from things as simple as an unintentional insult to himself or P'neil.
