Okay so, once upon a time, someone found this analysis on a site, and then they posted it on another forum, and then I posted it here! THE CYCLE CONTINUES. So, for anyone having trouble with characters or just want something to do besides homework, here is le massive list of stuff to help you out! Things to consider that you might not have without prompting. Now, this isn't geared for Pernese characters, just characters as a whole, so some of this stuff wouldn't apply. For funsies, I started filling out one for D'gellin. XD It's not done yet. I've been working on it little by little over the past week. This thing is LONG But I like it, because I got to touch on parts of D'gellin's character that hasn't come out very much in the RPs yet. :3 I seem to repeat the same things over and over in here though, so I'm sorry for anyone who's brave enough to read it. XD;
Creating Your Character
D'gellin! =D
The Character Physically
1. What is the character’s stature and build? Are they overweight or lean? What is their height and weight?
Lean and wiry. D'gellin has a sort of gangly look to him, as though he grew too fast for the rest of him to keep up. But it's unlikely he'll ever outgrow his childish appearance. He's average in height and just a little on the thin side.
2. How old are they?
17 turns
3. Describe their posture; is it good? Do they carry themselves well? Are they crooked, straight, or handicapped?
He doesn't necessarily have bad posture but that doesn't make it good either. He slouches a lot when he sits, resting his arms on tables or leaning back into his chairs. Much like any person, how well he holds himself depends on his mood.
4. Are they in good shape or out of condition? Are they muscular, weak, or strong? Any special abilities or super powers?
D'gellin is in fair shape. He takes good care of himself, despite his sweet tooth. He tends to look a little scrawny but there's the merest hint of tone to muscles that wasn't there upon arriving at Araelen.
5. How is their health? Any illnesses or conditions?
Nope, D'gellin's in top form.
6. Are they physically active or sedentary? A fast or slow mover?
A high activity person, D'gellin is usually quick on his feet, nimble, and dexterous. While not a particularly strong individual, he compensates with speed.
7. Are they clumsy, awkward, or graceful when they move, walk, or run?
Although his whimsical personality makes him appear clutsy, D'gellin is actually very agile, and many would be surprised to find that, upon closer inspection, he's actually fairly graceful.
8. Would you describe the character as good looking, pretty, beautiful, average, plain, ugly, disfigured?
I think that depends on the person viewing him. I could only describe him as average, plain, or cute in a doesn't-look-his-age kind of way. His smiles are dimpled and devious. His eyes are glistening blue, probably his only truly attractive attribute.
9. How does the character regard their physicality? Are they proud, ashamed?
D'gellin is majorly depressed that he's not a big muscle man. XD Though he'll never say it out loud, he's actually very self conscious of the fact that he's so wimpy looking. And often laments this as well as throws jealous glances at any guy with big biceps.
10. Describe their complexion and skin. Dark, light, clear, marked, tattooed, branded?
Having spent so much time outdoors in the sun, D'gellin has a nice rich tan and fairly clear skin.
11. Describe their hair, coloring, styling. Is great care taken in upkeep, or disregarded as a nuisance?
There is very little care put into D'gellin's hair, as he usually rolls out of bed with it as is. Light brown hair with strawberry blond highlights dominating the darker shades. He doesn't cut it as often as he should, so it curls and waves about his head past his ears. Sometimes, if a pretty girl walks by, he'll try to tame it, but there's little he can do with the naturally unmanageable mess.
12. How is their dexterity? Do they have good hands? Can they manipulate and create or repair?
D'gellin is very dexterous. His thin, quick hands are perfect for playing instruments or working in small spaces.
13. Is he physically tense or relaxed, nervous, controlled?
Usually relaxed and easy-going, D'gellin has a very pleasant vibe about him. Although, when put on the spot, he's developed a very frustrating tendency to freeze up. His nerves have been a little on the anxious side since Lancetoth came into the picture.
14. What part of their body would you notice first?
His mouth. As he's almost always smiling and chatting it up. D'gellin has a warm smile crowned by dimples.
15. How is their eyesight? Wear glasses, blind, going blind? Color?
Just the merest hint farsighted but nothing problematic. His eyes are a twinkling blue, alight with intrigue, making them the second part of his body that someone would notice.
The Character’s Clothes
1. How many clothes does this character have?
2. What kinds of items are in their wardrobe?
3. Do they have favorite articles of clothing?
4. What colors are their clothes, is there a wide range? Bright or dull? What are their favorite colors to wear?
5. Are their clothes old or new?
6. Were they bought or homemade, hand-me-downs, expensive tailored-made?
7. Is your character at home in their clothes or uncomfortable?
8. Does your character care for their clothes, kept up and neat, do they worry about how they look?
9. Does your character have to dress a certain way because of his job or position? Is it a uniform? If so, do the clothes fit their real, basic character, or are the clothes worn as a symbol or mask?
10. Do they dress according to a self-image of themselves? Is this self-image conscious or unconscious? At what age was this self-image set, and what circumstances dictated the image?
11. Discuss adornments, jewelry, or trophies that your character might wear. Are there tattoos, piercing, brandings, or ritualistic scarring, and what were the events, rituals, or circumstances that lead your character to having them.
12. What kind of underwear does your character wear?
The Character’s Voice
1. Does your character speak in a high or low pitch?
In the middle. All he can say is to that is 'thank Faranth puberty's over...'
2. Are they a loud or soft talker?
In the middle again. XD Louder when he's happier. He rarely ever speaks softly though.
3. Is there a wide range in the voice in volume, pitch, quality, or is the voice consistent and even?
D'gellin's voice mirrors his emotions. If he's scared, his voice will probably pitch up in alarm; when happy, in volume; when serious, in tone.
4. Is there good resonance to the voice? Is the voice throaty, chesty, heady, or nasal?
5. Is there tension in the voice? Anxiety? Emotion?
6. Is there an accent? Anything unusual in pronunciation? Emphasis? Phrasing?
7. Is it a trained voice or just natural? Does the character “try” to speak well or just “however it comes out”?
8. Is the speech clear or muddy? Do they mumble? Are they distinct?
9. Is the voice comforting or irritating? Reassuring or disturbing? Are they self-conscious when they speak to others? How large a group could they speak to before they become self-conscious?
10. What is the first thought one might have after hearing your character speak?
The Character’s Mind
1. Would you describe the character as smart, dumb, or naïve?
He's definitely smart. Quick-witted and crafty, D'gellin knows both how to get himself into trouble as well as how to get out of it. Although, this is perhaps more akin to street smarts rather than book smarts. He’s logical and inquisitive enough that he can infer what he needs to know.
2. Do they think quickly? Slowly? Are they quick-witted? Dull?
D'gellin's usually very sharp and quick mentally. But when he's nervous he has a tendency to drop the ball when he needs it most.
3. What kind of education do they have?
Having grown up in a small hold, D'gellin grew up learning the farmer trade, until he was apprenticed off. Having trouble finding his place, he actually dabbled in a few different crafts, including Healer (blood made him squeamish), Weaver (sitting around all day was so boring!), and Harper (where he likely would have stayed had he not been Searched).
4. Does the character possess a knowledge or expertise in a particular field?
He's a prankster to the core. Although D'gellin claims he's outgrown tricks, he still has a tendency to grin deviously when a wicked idea strikes him. I wonder how much longer he'll hold out...? >
5. Is the character impulsive or deliberate in reaching conclusions? Would you describe them as being logical, rational, or emotional?
Despite his apparent whimsicality, D'gellin usually does think things out. His mind is his weapon, and he exercises it with all sorts of imaginative ideas. For the most part he's a fairly rational thinker, leaning on logic to make his decisions. But that doesn't mean he won't slip on an emotional outburst now and then.
6. Do they think things out before they speak or blurt out the first thought?
Usually very careful with his words.
7. Do they contemplative times? What occupies their mind when alone?
Generally hating alone time, D'gellin will purposefully go to a crowded place just to be around people, if not talk to them. Lancetoth is always on hand for chatting or leaning against for a snooze in the sun. D'gellin's mind is easily distracted by the world around him, sight usually occupying thoughts (Oh look! A tree!). Otherwise he can be found working whole-heartedly on some sort of puzzle.
8. Would they be considered an idealist? A pragmatist? A dreamer? An idea person? An action person?
An idealist for sure. D'gellin sees the world with optimism, hoping only that everyone could see Pern and others the way he does: without prejudice or pointless anger.
9. Are they motivated chiefly by abstract ideals or practical rewards?
D'gellin loves trying new things. The abstract holds an interesting appeal to him. Practical awards are nice, but D'gellin is often in it for the fun or novelty.
10. Can your character tell a joke?
Frequently. And he can take a joke as well.
The Character’s Emotions and Personality
1. Is your character an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert!
2. Do they get along well with people? Do they have charm or charisma? Are people naturally attracted to them?
In theory, people should be attracted to D'gellin's forward smiles. He should be easy to get along with and has a certain charm to him.
3. Do they have many friends? Any close friends?
? This is hard to discern with RP characters. He should have at least one reliable friend (that means you, Shikai! I haven't seen T'ren around in ages! XD)
4. Would you describe your character as hot-blooded or cool headed?
Cool headed. It takes a lot to get D'gellin angry.
5. Do they have a narrow or wide range of emotions? Do they show, or are the emotions concealed? Why?
A wide range of emotions, each displayed openly on his face. He's a good actor, but not when it comes to masking his own feelings.
6. Do they indulge in emotional peaks, outbursts, or valleys? Often?
Usually fairly upbeat, but D'gellin does have his down times. He is self-conscious about his lack of a relationship, and dwelling on this can make him melancholy. He just wants someone to care about him. XD (Lancetoth: *scoffs* What does Mine need a girl for when he has his wonderful Lance--!!! Ooo, what a pretty green ~~<3)
7. Would you describe them as sensitive or callused?
Sensitive. Haha, D'gellin can take a joke but one too many stabs at his whimpy muscles will hurt after a while. He's not callous by any stretch of the imagination.
8. Is your character suspicious, cautions, trusting, or oblivious about people or situations?
He has a tendency to be oblivious to other people's emotions, focusing on the 'me' factor much of the time. He'll put faith in people but not trust.
9. Are they an aggressive or reactive person? Act or react?
Aggressive wouldn't be the right word, but active and outgoing would be. He'll be the one to get things going.
10. Do they typically take positive or negative action?
Positive
11. In a dangerous or emergency situation, would they go toward the situation or run away?
D'gellin could be scared out of his pants but still rise the occasion. That's his strength. He can freeze, he can openly express fear and complain, but he won't run away from it. Either guilt for his own cowardice, or Lancetoth’s persistence would make him turn back and take action. (Otherwise you could never get him to fight Thread )
12. Is the character basically nervous or calm?
Usually calm. But, perhaps because he's taking things more seriously than he did when he was younger, anxiety is a threatening factor in serious situations.
13. Does the character have a sense of humor? Do they appreciate jokes? Can he see humor in any situation? Can they laugh at themselves?
YES. D'gellin loves to laugh. He loves telling a joke and hearing a new one in return. He'll pull humor out of thin air and work with it. And while he can laugh at himself, certain jabs taken one to many times at his ego will make him start to question (I'm not...that whimpy....am I...? D: )
14. Do others find them amusing? Are they a practical joker? What do they think about tricks or jokes played on other people?
I'm not sure how much anyone else appreciates his humor, but D'gellin is a prankseter to the core. It's all in fair game. If you leave yourself open for attack, well that's your fault.
15. Is their humor ever cruel?
Not usually. Occasionally he can become a little spiteful if someone's been picking on him, and will start throwing out degrading jokes. But his humor is usually innocent enough.
16. Are there any conditions that would cause them to be harmful, mean, or cruel to another person?
D'gellin hates bullies. If he deems someone as such he can be a little spiteful with his words and actions. Usually just enough that the bully starts to think 'did he just...?' but not enough to get him into trouble.
17. Are they a loving person? Are they capable of relating to one specific person in a romantic way?
With a tendency to focus on the 'me' factor, D'gellin makes for a slightly less sentimental ear. While he's capable of loving (and by Faranth does he want someone to love him! XD) he has trouble relating to other people. And is single. Veeeeery single. Haha, D'gellin, haha. XD (D'gellin: This isn't a laughing matter!!!! D': )
But before I let this question slip by, I think it should also be noted that, although he'll never admit it, D'gellin's a major romanic. XD He sighs, he crushes, he flirts in his own way. He's the kind of guy that would come by with flowers and put on the prince charming act. Although I think 'puppy' would be a better word to describe the way he acts around girls. XD
18. Is the character loved by any other person, in what way?
Nope! He's mister lonely. Although in a different context, Lancetoth loves him. (Lancetoth: Ily, D'gellinmine!! :'D // D'gellin: lmao ily 2 Lanny!! :'D *HUGZ!*)
19. Is the character romantically in love now? With whom? Is this a happy, rewarding or frustrating situation for them?
Nah. Although, he's probably crushing on some poor unsuspecting girl right now. She's lucky he's not the stalker type. It'll pass, and he'll move on to his next longing sigh. As you can imagine, this is frustrating for D'gellin. Because for all his apparent confidence around people, he just doesn't know how to approach this particular problem. XD

Character’s Fears
1. What things frighten your character?
Things he can't control are very frightening for D'gellin. He has to be in command of what's going on around him. Thread, for example, with all it's menacing danger frightens him a lot. He's also not a big fan of between at all, often suggesting a longer flight as opposed to that oppressing darkness.
2. Are they motivated by fear?
No. Fear is a crippler for poor D'gellin.
3. To what extent are they motivated by fear; never, occasionally, usually, constantly?
The only thing fear motivates is his feet.
4. What would this character think were the three most terrible things that could happen to them?
Loosing Lancetoth, getting lost in between, never finding a girlfriend.
5. What would they think were the three most wonderful things that could happen to them?
Finding the girl of his dreams, pulling off a prank so spectacular that it would go down in history (or accomplishing anything that could win him bragging rights), living in a world made of bubbly pies.

For funsies, I started filling out one for D'gellin. XD It's not done yet. I've been working on it little by little over the past week. This thing is LONG But I like it, because I got to touch on parts of D'gellin's character that hasn't come out very much in the RPs yet. :3 I seem to repeat the same things over and over in here though, so I'm sorry for anyone who's brave enough to read it. XD;
