This has occured to me a million and one times but I just never asked it. XD How does time move in Araelen? Is there a set time (like every so many months is so many turns) or do we all just go 'ohyes, btw, s'o-and-so is now two turns older! YAY PUBERTY' XD For those of us with younger characters, you can see how this could cause a problem. Trilia, for example, has been 11 turns old since her appearance over a RL year ago. That was before M'kel was even Weyrleader! lol The same concern could be directed at the newly appointed full riders. Because their dragons have matured but their riders have remained stagnant. =P I worry about some of those youngsters caught up in mating flights! D= So yea. XD Curiosity :> ~Tany

Hmm. That is a very good question. -prods Fel the character- Especially since one of my characters is involved in a flight now, and if her age were left, she'd be like... fifteen. I mean, I know some people... But yeah.
And you know, any time would be a good time to rid A'tair of some of his remaining hormonal imbalances from puberty. xD Not that he's not completely crazy now anyhow (it's all I'nk's fault!).

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........lol.
I've got to admit, I've been rather avoiding that issue...
I know some Weyrs have set time lapses, where an RL month is an IC month, but I deeefinitely didn't want to do that, 'cause then it would take TWO RL years for dragons to mature. Which is crazy ridiculous.
Buuuut, I also didn't want to speed up time toooo much, 'cause then our characters would all get sooooo old sooooo fast. 'Cause it's been about 10 months since the Hatching, and the dragons have just been granted full rider status. So that's moving at about twice the speed of normal time, in fact a little bit faster. However, that would mean that a full Turn is only 5 months, which means characters should be aging a Turn every 5 months...which would mean that a 16 Turn-old char who Impressed at the last Hatching would be 18 now and 20 by next June, 22 by the next April...so in 5 years he/she would be 'round 30. WHICH IS CRAZEH. I don't want all of my chars to get so old so fast! I mean... M'kel would be like...36 by then! o.O He will have lost his youth! *sniff*
Soooo, I guess, since the issue has finally come up (lol), we'll see what everyone else would be comfortable with. I kind of like the idea of having 'obscure time lapse', in that dragons could magically mature in half the time, so chars don't have to age so quickly. So...chars might gain a Turn each year, while dragons gain two. Kinda thing. Buuuut, I don't know if y'all with younger chars would like that, since you do have to worry about Flights and stuff. Tis another reason why my chars are never younger than 15...actually, I don't think I have one younger than 16.
So, eh heh, I guess this is one that'll depend on mass opinion...
What does everyone think?

I personally tend to be very loose about time. I mean Gayze me, not B'kay, me, he's anal as anything. LOL
Seriously, though, for me, it stops being as much fun if I have to start worrying about sticking to too many set details. Of course, you can take it too far ... we wouldn't want a 17 turn old character suddenly being 40 when everyone else around them has only aged a year, for instance.
My charries that had set ages, I aged a year with my recent sig update, though. Just because it felt right.
And btw, when you turn 36 I'm gonna remind you about that "lost youth" crack. LOL I haven't lost mine yet, and I passed 36 eleven years ago. <G>

-giggles- Well, we could just age them obscurley, as Gazye said... I just aged Crown at the hatching, for some unknown reason. She's now 16. XD But seriously, that would probably be best if we all know that by the time the dragon's grow up, Rhea's like a little older, but meah and Tany would know best...

I like M'kel's time lapse idea. So, characters would age a year every RL year, but they wouldn't have to be weyrlings for a ridiculous amount of time, and such. ^^ Although I'd be ok if people want to make it flexible, as long as no one's aging waaaay too fast or too slow.

Haha, sorry, I tend to dig into unwanted subjects. XD;
I totally know what everyone means about not aging characters too fast. I'm not even worried about my adult characters, I'd rather leave them as is. Aging my characters faster than a gerbil reproduces doesn't sound fun at all! XD It's the younger characters I'm concerned about. And the only reason why I brought this topic up. ^^;; I was going to just tack a turn on to D'gellin and Trilia without saying anything but I was genuinely curious...
I like that idea, Kitty, of just aging characters according to RL terms. That's plenty fast, I think. I wouldn't want it any faster. (Again, I'm only concerned about younger characters, who might be fun to RP on their journey to teenager-dom or adulthood! Emotional growth is my favorite part of RPing. But I also want to make sure they don't wake up after a Flight and go 'ohnos! My underaged virginity has been stolen! D:>' or 'ohnos! I've stolen their underaged verginity! D:>' ) Meanwhile the dragons could age according to however the Meddlers work it out. That's worked fine this whole time. And I'm quite happy with it. :3 But this is your world, Kitty! So you've got the final say. Just suspending time altogether and having our characters remain the same age isn't a bad idea either. We'd all just have to work around that. Which could lead to plenty of other drama-rific plots. ^^ Not all dragons chase. If their rider is too young, it could hamper their decision to join in, keeping the younglings safe. OR just leave the topic be and everyone be flexible about their own characters, like a few other people have mentioned.
And as for being smart about choosing ages, I loose. XD;; This stuff never occurs to me until after inspiration strikes and I write out a full bio. ;_; Eh-heh... I'll try to keep this in mind next time? ^^;;
