Application:
Character Name: Eddin
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Preference: Males
Previous Position: Apprentice Beastcrafter
Current Position: Candidate
Appearance: Eddin is big. He’s six foot two, maybe six foot three in good boots. And he’s not a thin little slip of a man, either. Lots of exercise combined with a healthy appetite have given him a thick, solid build that most people who think twice about before crossing. It’s not that he looks intimidating; his hair is mousy brown, as are his eyes which are surrounded by a few premature fine lines, free gifts from Rukbat’s unforgiving gaze. He’s tanned to leather, his skin weather-roughened and chapped. Even though he’s been at the Weyr for awhile now, he still looks like he could have stepped out of the harsh seasons a candlemark ago. He’s just… big. And when you’re big, you don’t NEED to look intimidating.
Personality: Eddin is friendly, but also a little… bossy, to be honest. He doesn’t mean to be, but Turns of having to care for younger siblings had left him with a nagging sense of responsibility for others that didn’t go away when he left home. If he sees something that needs doing, he tries to do it, even if he doesn’t know how. And he’ll probably resent whoever left it out there in the first place, even though they never told him to try to fix it.
He is, perhaps, not the brightest person you could encounter. He is not sly or crafty, and had he been left on his own, he would have been a complete Follower, not Leader. The habitual responsibility has reached a truce with that, however; Eddin is passive-aggressive and not confrontational. He resents being treated as though he were a dimglow. If he were more or less intelligent, he would be fine. Unfortunately, he rides the bubble, bright enough to realize there are things going on that he doesn’t understand, and bright enough to envy those who are quick of tongue and thought, but, in the end, too stupid to do more than envy. It is not really as bad as it sounds; he can be- if not exactly happy- content, at least, with that. So long as no one makes a show of getting the better of him.
Eddin is not bubbly, and often self-conscious, but he is not a wall-flower. He likes to get out and do things; his bulk helps with most sports, and he enjoys games of all sorts, provided they are ones he can play. Outdoorsman to the core, keeping him inside, away from the sun and the wind, is something akin to torture.
History: Eddin was raised to take care of his family. Even when he became an Apprentice in Beastcrafting, he purposely showed more interest in the herding and protecting aspects, rather than the breeding and cultivating aspects, so he could work near the cothold where his family lived. He watched his younger siblings… and if he failed, there were consequences.
His father never beat him. Eruin never beat ANY of his children. But failure did carry consequences, and Eddin got his share of whuppins. He took them same as anyone else and got over it. It really was a powerful motivator to do better next time.
Eddin was held back in his advancement not by laziness or dislike for his profession but by a poor memory; while he retained the information needed to do his job well, nerves at testing time always blocked it out, and for Turns he remained an Apprentice while others he knew were advanced. He tried not to let it bother him, of course. He tried not to notice at all.
If all goes well, Eddin will never learn if he was doomed to be an Apprentice all his life. He was Searched; dim, goodhearted, herdbeast-breeder Eddin might become a dragonrider! It was almost too much to imagine! Now he applies himself to being a Candidate with the same single-minded intensity he applied to Beastcrafting, and awaits a Hatching.
Position in Family: Oldest Child
Pets: He had favorite herdbeasts, but he left them all behind. Now he’s got none.
Alignment: He’s a loyalist basically by default. A charismatic leader could sway him, but he isn’t exactly the most important conversion personality.
RP History: I started six years ago, but as a raging idiot without enough ability to fill an egg-cup. I’ve been working on improving the last three.
Familiarity with Pern: Maybe seven books?
How you found out about our site: A Neopets roleplaying board.
Candidates Only Section:
Desired Dragon Colour: Blue
Reason for this Preference: Well, I don’t see him as good enough for a Brown, and Bronze is out of the question because of his orientation. Greens are too flighty, generally, for him, though I’d be pleased enough to see him on a Green or a Blue.
Syllable Numbers for Name: No preference.
Preferred Starting Letters for Name: No preference
For Dragonriders and Candidates to Fill Out:
Preferred Dragon Ability: Agility, rescue, allure
