Character Information[/u]
Character Name:
Cilnah
Age:
Nineteen
Gender:
Female
Preference:
Both, with a tendency towards Males
Previous Position:
A Weyrbrat 'babysitter', and sometimes a kitchen helper.
Current Position:
Candidate
Appearance:
Standing at nearly six foot makes Cilnah stand out from the crowd a bit, but that isn't the only thing about her that's fascinating. She has hair the deepest shade of black that, when the light catches it just right, appears to be a midnight blue. Though the tresses reach almost her hip when it's wet, it has a slight wave to it, so that when it's dry it hangs down only to her waist. Dark, playful, emerald green eyes peek out from behind loose strands of her unruly hair, matching nicely from her olive-tone skin. Her physique is shaped mainly by her day-to-day life, making her look graceful, yet with a hidden power waiting just under the surface. One notable feature about her is a scar like blotch about the size of a toddler's palm, just under her jaw line below her left ear, which stands out considerably as white against tan.
Personality:
Though this girl's mood is liable to change at any second, it's a general good bet to think that she's pleasant. As a general rule, she tries to find something humorous about every aspect of life, and if she can't find one, she'll just make something up instead! Cilnah loves to hear people laugh, and this is the reason she's the 'babysitter' of the Weyr. She adores children of all ages, though she could do without some of the smaller ones, and she's over protective of them to the extreme. Especially when it comes to her own brothers. If there's ever any threat to her friends, family, or children, Cilnah will be right there to defend, no matter what it takes. She's been known to take things a little to seriously, and can be nit-picky when it comes right down to it. If there's ever a job that needs to be done that one can do yourself, giving it to this girl is the next best thing. She'll make sure it's done the best that it can be. But be careful if you find fault in her work, because she can be easily offended about certain things, and isn't one to forgive for a long, long while. She talkative, and extremely polite most of the time, though she can have a sharp tongue on the rare occasion that she's truly angry.
History:
Mother: Kinal - Cook
Father: Solte - Cleaner
Siblings:
-N'yrl - Male - Eighteen turns -Blue Rider
-Kinte- Male - Eleven turns
From the time she was old enough to understand, Cilnah has been in love with dragons. Her first memories are those of scales glittering brightly in the sky, unhindered by earth or sea. For many long hours when she was just beginning to comprehend the world she lived in, the girl would sit and watch the weyrlings and their dragons, imagining the time when she, too, would stand out on the warm sands of the Hatching grounds. In her mind was everything, from the way she would act, to the color of her dragon, a brilliant, sapphire blue that would match the ocean in it's depth. Even when she became old enough to start actively participating in the daily life of the Weyr, her heart and mind were always with the dragons. Until the day her youngest brother was born.
Age eight is not when one usually thinks of a little girl becoming a mother, but that was when it happened to Cilnah, in her own right. But maybe the word 'mother' isn't correct. Care-giver, guardian... These fit her role better. As with all people who live in the lower levels of an active dragon hold, there is an endless amount to be done, and the day she found her fondness for children was no less so. Actually, it was more busy than ever, for there was to be a celebration that day, and the Weyrwoman had demanded everything be spotless and pristine. What, exactly, the activities were for, Cilnah couldn't remember anymore. It wasn't an important detail. Both Kinal and Solte were needed to help with the preparations. No able-bodied worker could be spared, even the mother of a two month old baby.
At first, the small girl had been rather put out about her mother asking... No, telling her to keep an eye on her younger brothers. After all, they weren't here responsibility. But, being a girl who wanted something, she grudgingly agreed, smirking at the hasty bribe her mother had tossed at her if she did a good job. Needless to say, she did her job well, and got the small doll she had been promised the next time traders came to the Weyr. After that first day, Cilnah found herself more and more in her brothers company. A few weeks later, when Kinal looked particularly hagard from Kinte's persistant crying, she even offered to watch the boys while she went and relaxed for a bit.
Though suspicious, her mother accepted, wondering what Cilnah wanted. As these offers became more frequent however, it became apparent that the girl had truly enjoyed her time with the children, and Kinal began to suggest she offer her services to other mothers who she knew could use a break from their own duties, as all mother do from time to time. It wasn't long after that when Cilnah became the unofficial 'babysitter' for the lower caverns, sometimes looking after a group of over twenty boys and girls while their parents were busy.
The day she turned twelve, Cilnah, like all others, became eligible to Impress on the hatching fields. But, as luck would have it, she fell ill on the during the only hatching that year, and was unable to stand before the dragonets. Though thoroughly disappointed, she understood that sometimes circumstances can not be changed, and she took the blow with as much poise as possible. The next turn, her brother Nadyrl also turned twelve, and she was excited to have the opportunity to stand with her brother. And so she waited, nearly a full turn she waited, looking after the children of the Weyr, until finally the Weyrwoman's gold dragon took to the skies, and a clutch was laid out on the warm sands.
But in the midst of a terrible storm, the dragon's humming started, sounding the call for the hatching about to begin. A mixture of fear and awe flowed through her body as both she and Nadyrl hastened to pull on their white robes and sandals. Kinal, though worried about letting them venture out in such a tremendous gale, watched as they bounded out with a few of the others that were hoping to Impress that day. Unfortunately, luck was once more against Cilnah, for while she was standing in the small semi-circle, she was struck by a large piece of hail just under her left ear. She collapsed there on the sands, the last thing she remembered as her eyes closed a beautiful blue dragon shattering his egg, his head held high even in this most terrifying of weather.
Three days later, she awoke in her own bed, nestled comfortably next to her favorite doll, one which she had possessed since she was eight, and watched over by a worry-ridden family. A warm lump at her back revealed itself to be her youngest brother, curled tightly in a ball, sleeping at the small of her back. At the age of five, he wasn't quite sure what was happening, but he knew it was serious. At her other side was Nadyrl, watching her with eyes that matched her own. They spoke for a few minutes, and she was surprised to find that the blue that was her last memory was now bonded to her beloved little brother. It took a moment for her to squash the pang of jealousy that sprang up in her, but from that moment on, she was a proud sister to the Dragonrider.
Her mother, on the other hand, refused to be put through the anguish she had been waiting at her daughter's bedside for three days, hoping she would wake up. Cilnah was forbidden to attend any more Hatchings, at least as a Candidate. For weeks, on into months, nearly half a turn mother and daughter fought, the battle so passionate that some who witnessed it later described it as harrowing as fighting a Thread fall. But in the end, Kinal won out, breaking the strong relationship she had with her oldest child. From that moment on, for nearly another turn, the bond that had kept the two close was broken.
However, slowly, Cilnah began to understand her mother's feelings, and the two repaired their relationship, much to the happiness of the rest of the family. It has remained as such, for many turns, until her brother came home one day, a serious look on his face. Asking for a private audience with his parents, N'yrl sat with them behind a closed door for the better part of a day. As the time came for the evening meal, the three of them reappeared, with a startling announcement.Kinal had agreed to give Cilnah a chance to stand on the Hatching sands. She had one last attempt to Impress a dragon of her own, and become bonded to one of the creatures she had so long admired. There was only one catch. In order to do so, she would have to leave behind everything she'd known, everything that was familiar to her, and travel into the unknown future on the back of her brother's dragon. With only a moment's hesitation, Cilnah agreed.
