General
Character Name: Jermashi (Je’shi for honorific?)
Age: Seventeen
Gender: Male
Preference: Females
Previous Position: Fisherman Apprentice
Current Position: Candidate
Appearance:
Jermashi has a rather lanky form. He has long limbs with thin bones, flat stomach and looks like there’s absolutely nothing to him. It gives him an almost brittle look, if added in with the fact that he is rather tall. But it doesn’t seem to phase him in the least. He has pasty-colored skin that, although it looks healthy and is healthy, gives him quite the ghost-like look. His shoulders are flaked and red from long hours of work on boats with no shade and it is apparent that they will stay that way.
He has messy short hair that looks good even when it’s tangled. It isn’t thick but there is enough there to make you want to mess with it. His dark brown hair is just long enough for you to grab hold and pull. And it does hurt. Under slim eyebrows rest two hazel eyes, light green and really dark brown melded together. Where the two colors meet is a patch of emerald green and gold-brown, giving his eyes a four-hued appearance.
Personality:
Extremely old-fashioned is how Jermashi rolls. He sticks straight to the old records and harper tales. He thinks that everybody has their traditional place and that is where they should be. He is extremely straight-forward when it comes to anything, especially his views, and he will not take any other views into consideration. There is no reasoning with him at all, and he absolutely despises compromises. He’s not easy to deal with and he likes it that way. Especially when it comes to girls. Oh, they’re attractive and all, but that’s all they’re worth. The queen riders have his absolute respect, for those women are above and beyond the others. But those others…they’re just brainless, flightly, and fit for doing small work. He hates when females impress to fighting dragons, except for perhaps the greens. They can get away with that. The two match.
As you can see, he gets into many heated arguments about this sort of thing. Though other than that he is a really nice guy, if someone so much as does anything liberal, he blows up. Nothing else really gets him ticked; he only gets angry for things that cross his beliefs the wrong way. Funny thing is, he doesn’t even like to fight; he doesn’t have the build for it. So when he does, you know two things: the kid must have done something wrong, and to get a healer, because there was NO way Jermashi was going to win any fight.
Jermashi has this strive to do something for Pern other than fish. The stirrings of old tales of thread got him to think ahead, and so weyrlife quickly appealed to him. He is extremely “patriotic”, if you have to label it as something, and loves the old times when thread was fought by men on wings, or even the occasional queen wing with flamethrowers. It gave him a sense of importance that he absolutely adored. So, of course he took the opportunity to come to the weyr.
History:
His personality had to be influenced by something, and that would be his father, Jeraai. Jeraai, like Jermashi’s former position, was a fisherman. Jermashi and Jeraai were super close throughout the sixteen years of his life that he worked on his father’s boat. They talked about anything, even things personal, and they didn’t really keep anything from them. His relationship with his mom was infrequent, for Mashi was a trader and traveled a lot. But they were alright with the living arrangements and everything was fine.
While on the fishing trips that could either be short or long, Jeraai told Jermashi of the old harper tales and excerpts he memorized from records. Apparently, Jermashi’s grandfather was a harper and told his son about all of these things. So he was passing it on. Jermashi got hooked on them and it really swayed his thinking on things drastically. That’s why he’s so into the old traditional stuff; it reminds him of those long, comfortable, familiar fishing trips with his father.
When the chance came to go to the weyr as a candidate, much to his father’s surprise, Jermashi jumped at it and took it. Jermashi had to explain to his father the reason why, and Jeraai accepted it and let him leave. The greenrider took him to the weyr just after the last hatching, to his defeat, but he wasn’t put out fully by the miss. Soon, however, his paths crossed with a female weyrfolk. She kept on asking questions much out of her rank, so he was rather nasty to her about it. She had a lowly position, as it well should be, so he let her be and walked away. But they crossed paths quite often and they always get into arguments because of it.
