General[/u]
Character Name: Aylana
Age: Sixteen
Gender: Female
Preference: Females
Previous Position: Runnerbeast Handler
Current Position: Runnerbeast/Beast handler (feeding grounds) **
Appearance:
Aylana’s basic structure is sturdy, influenced by all of the outside work she does. She is really, really short, and it doesn’t help that she’s almost always crouching down or kneeling down while she works. She has thick bones that fill out her form, not so that she’s heavy, but certainly not on the slender side of the spectrum. She has long legs, though they’re still small compared to anybody else, with visible muscles surrounding thick bones. She has rather small feet… Which is probably why she trips a lot. Her arms or on the thin side, even if she does use them quite often; the muscle is there, but it isn’t visible. She has a flat tummy and noticeable curves, but she sometimes forgets she has them.
Her skin is tanned, almost permanently, because of the things she does outside. It’s a healthy, crisp, light brown shade, different from her normal pale look if she were to remain inside. A few disappearing blemishes rest on her face. Her hair is short-cropped to keep out of her way while working, and so she doesn’t have to push it out of her eyes every five seconds. Said hair is a silky, thin blond, bleached by the sun, and darker at the roots. Her eyes, shaded by golden bangs that part to one side of her face, are a fierce pale/frosty blue color.
Personality:
You’d think, “oh dear, blond and gay? She must be quite the social butterfly!” But she isn’t. Sure, she’s not afraid of her orientation, and embraces it really; it’s better than falling in love with those pin-brained guys, anyways. You ask her about it, she’ll shrug and say, “yeah. What’s your point?” She’s rather laid-back and seems to just go with the flow. That’s how she always is; settles in one spot, goes along with her daily routine, everything’s all set. She pulls jokes and is willing to have a conversation as long as she doesn’t start it. But really, secretly, she wishes she would be noticed for something other than what she does, and though she may look like she doesn’t care, she really does.
When it comes to personal subjects, she’s not one to jump right in and start spewing her feelings out to people. She’s more confined, withdrawn, and quiet about those types of things. If she gets pulled into one of those conversations, she gets very nervous and awkward. She doesn’t easily tell people she likes them, or is attracted to them. If you try to drag her into one of those types of situations, she’ll bolt.
She gains friends somewhat easily, and it never starts with her coming up to them and saying hi. Most of her friends are guys, since she’s slightly nervous around other girls, and just connects with guys better. Perhaps its because of her close relationship to her father, or the fact that she’s so “boy-like”. Not a lot of girls have such a fondness of runners like herself, and she is mostly seen outdoors. She’s so attached to her runners, who cares if she accidentally missed lunch? She still has supper to get to.
History:
Her mother was a seamstress at a hold, her name was Joy. Her father, Mark, was a Runnerbeast handler. Her parents weren’t married, or together, but they were really close friends. They got along, which allowed Aylana to have healthy relationships with both of them. She had a closer relationship with her father, though, just because she wasn’t totally comfortable around other females, including her mother even. She knew from the start that she didn’t like boys, but kept it to herself until her mother started to question her about all of her guy friends, or that she always hung out with guys. She told Joy that she had nothing to worry about; she thought guys were gross in that sort of way. This was when she was twelve, which was around the time that girls got crushes and got over that “EWW CUTIES” stage. Her mom looked confused, so she explained that she liked girls. Joy, to put it simply, was shocked, but was accepting after a month or two.
Her father was more readily accepting of his daughter’s “delimma”, since it allowed her to work more diligently in the stables even with all of the boys around. She certainly did fit in there, and soon enough, she became a worker in the stables instead of a seamstress like her mother. But the stables didn’t need a lot of workers there, and they had quite a few. A dragonrider (blue) came to the hold, whose only craft was the beast craft, and asked if a runnerbeast handler could come to the weyr. She was fifteen at the time, and she accepted it readily. She loved dragons, loved the stories her parents told her when she was little about them. If she was able to see them whilst doing the thing she loved best, why not?
Just before she left her mother married to the Lord Holder of the hold. He was Jawen, a man that she tolerated but otherwise didn’t care much for. She missed the wedding, even though she was really impartial to going in the first place, and left the weyr an hour before it started. Not long afterwards, she got a message from her mother saying that she had a new half-brother, Rawoy. Aylana was surprised, and has wanted to go down to meet him ever since knowing about it. At the weyr, she got around quite a bit. She watched one hatching, the latest one, and a few days later bumped into a candidate. He started yelling at her, and once she was done, she asked him if he was at the last hatching. He said no, rather snobbily. She found that he’d been brought in that day, and then he asked her if she was a candidate. She said no, she was a beast handler, and he laughed and said “good thing!” and left. They’ve hated each other ever since.
Position in Family: Only daughter, older sister to younger brother
Pets: Stallion runnerbeast, Crusader, long-legged lanky creature with a black coat, white socks. White mane and tail; very outspoken and demanding
Alignment: Rebel
Relation to Existing Character: My soon-to-be Candidate. They hate each other.
RP History: Don't really know...haven't been counting.
Familiarity with Pern: I've read the main books, Dragonflight, Dragonquest, the HH trilogy, etc.
How you found out about our site: Flamewolf
Candidates Only Section:[/u]
Desired Dragon Colour: Blue, hands-down!
Reason for this Preference: She's just blue-like. And I adore blues anyways. It would really fit her and she's all for a fighting dragon, anyways. She's more of a speed-person than strength, and the lower ranking dragons never get enough love.
Syllable Numbers for Name: Two or three
Preferred Starting Letters for Name: B, F, or O.
For Dragonriders and Candidates to Fill Out:
Preferred Dragon Ability: Creativity, Allure, Searching
** I was wondering if on the next hatching, she could be in the stands and impress, but not actually be a "candidate". Is that okay?
