Character Name: Myra (MEER-ah)
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Preference: Females
Previous Position: Apprentice Beastcrafter
Current Position: Candidate
Appearance: Myra’s most noticeable feature is her height. The girl hit her growth spurt early, shooting up to a shocking six foot two. Her impression of extreme height for her age is only added to by her reedy, gangly appearance, with long, skinny limbs and an almost complete lack of feminine curves. In fact this, coupled with her short haircut, leads many people to mistake her for a boy. She doesn’t mind this, and typically wears more boy-like clothing as well. While she likes it because it is much easier for working, Myr also detests dressing up, or having to attempt to make herself look pretty. Myra’s hair is short and very unkempt, for it has a wild appearance and seems to be flying in all directions. It is smooth and black in color. Her skin is a medium tone; neither excessively pale nor dark. It is dotted with an occasional freckle. Myra’s eyes are soft and round in shape, and an equally soft-seeming blue in color. Her facial features are of normal size in proportion to each other. While some pull excessive height off with a willowy grace, Myra has none of this knowledge. Rather, she is the opposite – she carries herself awkwardly, as though she does not know what to do with herself. This is a mirror of how she feels internally.
Personality: Myra has always been an awkward youth. Quiet, shy, and melancholy, she knew she was different from other girls both in terms of her romantic preference and her appearance. She fears rejection from everyone, including society. She is emotionally fragile, and hurt and embarrassed easily under normal situations. However, she is protective of those she likes, and will put on a brave face to defend them. Myra is more likely to be sad than angry, and very rarely will she really be angered. This usually occurs when a friend or a loved one, or just a helpless victim is picked on, and when she is angry, it is a scary sight to see. Myra has a strong sense of justice and is very empathetic, traits that will not allow her to stand by when she sees something wrong, or a person who is suffering. If anyone can befriend Myra, she is a loyal friend, although she will take quite a lot of patience because she requires much time before she will truly open up to anyone. Myra will do almost anything for a good friend, even if her own life is put at risk. Myra is very hard working, and once she has started a job, she is loath to stop before she is finished. When on a job, Myra is never a leader, but a perfect follower, and will carry out whatever she is assigned without complaint. Myra loves learning, and especially stories with which to occupy her mind, for she frequently daydreams when she does not have something important to do. Stories allow her to temporarily set aside her own problems and sensitivities, and step into the lives of the strong, fearless protagonists of the tales she loves. Myra also adores animals, finding them to be less judgmental and easier to understand and work with than humans.
History: Myra’s mother, Mysha, worked as a Journeywoman weaver at the small, Southern Hold where Myra was born, and her father, Royhan, was a Master tanner. Their eldest son and first-born child, Ryshan, showed great potential for the tanning craft from an early age, and his parents were ecstatic. After such success with their first child, they had high hopes for their next. Myra, however, proved to be a bit of a disappointment. While not unattractive, the girl couldn’t quite be called pretty, and while she was willing to work hard, she had none of her brother’s talent for either of her parents’ crafts. Rather, she would sneak off to hear stories from the Harpers whenever her work was done, and sit for hours while they talked. This lead the Harpers to suggest that she become apprenticed in their craft, although her parents were disappointed to discover that she was rather tone-deaf, and had no hope of pursuing that profession. Her constant failure to live up to her parents’ expectations caused her to develop her insecurities, and in turn, her shyness, for she started to feel that others would know that she wasn’t good at anything, and dislike her. When her parents had another child, a daughter, they had lowered their expectations, but were pleased to find that she, unlike her sister, had a pretty face and a lovely singing voice. Caught between two talented children, Myra felt forgotten and unhappy, and took to daydreaming and detaching herself from society even more. Her favorite stories were those of the dragonriders of old, and she fantasized about what it must be like to be loved so unconditionally, and revered by all. However, she knew she had to take her head out of the clouds and find a suitable career path, if she didn’t want to simply be married off. Eventually, she found the beastcraft, where she found that she adored animals, and wasn’t bad at working with them. She was apprenticed, and worked hard for a long time to learn her craft. While she still wasn’t truly happy, Myra was doing better. However, that all changed with the return of the dragonriders. She was in awe of them, for the dragons were more amazing and beautiful than she ever expected. Myra knew of the incredible difficulty of being Searched, as they called it, and knew that she had very little chance of meeting their criteria, given that even she didn’t like herself. All the same, she was unable to shake the notion that it was her dream, and that she needed to at least try. As such, she presented herself amid the massive crowd of children who wished to be searched when the dragons came to her Hold, and against all odds, she was taken to Araelen Weyr.
Position in Family: Second child of four.
---------
RP History: Oh, I can’t say I remember when I started exactly. XD It was several years ago, though. Maybe…four? Or three, but most likely four.
Familiarity with Pern: I haven’t read all the books, but I have read around ten or so, and adore then. I’ve been roleplaying DroP for quite a while.
---------
Candidates Only Section:
Desired Dragon Colour: Blue
Reason for this Preference: Myra acts more like a boy in terms of personality, and understands them better. Thus, she would do better with a male dragon. Also, she is steadfast and hardworking, as well as empathetic, so she could maybe be a searchrider later in life, as well as a normal dragonrider.
Ability Preference: Agility, Rescue/Search Ability, Team Coordination
Syllable Numbers for Name: N/A – See below.
Preferred Starting Letters for Name: None. I would like something that flows off the tongue, though. Easy to say, and pretty or cute. ^^ Letters and syllables don’t matter to me.
I'd like to think I roleplay better than I write applications. I enjoy it more, at least. xD
