Character Name: B’raun
Age: 25 turns
Gender: Male
Previous Position: Tanner
Current Position: Bronze Rider
Appearance: Tall, gangly fellow with taut, nicely tanned skin. He has bushy, hickory brown hair that has a slight curl to it when it’s wet. His eyes are a deep, luscious green, which almost seem to entrance people with the quiet intelligence they behold.
Personality: When he’s in a good mood, B’raun can be quite the pleasure to be around. Although rather a heavy drinker, he doesn’t tend to get over-emotional. B’raun is a family man at heart, always spending a lot of time with his dad in his small workshop, and tending to his younger siblings. He is very protective of his friends and family. He doesn’t have many close friends, but he does socialize a lot and have many cordial acquaintances. B’raun would fight to the death for his dragon or his loved ones. He would defend them, whether or not they were right, because he was loyal to those he loved.
History: Biraun grew up in a little, isolated town in the Southern continent, not very far from the coast. Biraun grew up with a younger brother and a younger sister, both within two turns of each other, but Biraun was four turns apart from the oldest. He spent his childhood taking care of his siblings, learning firsthand from his father how to dry and work the hides until they were flexible and smooth. He grew attached to his humble life in the countryside, and his father was convinced he would become a great Tanner with the skills he possessed in the trade. He showed great delicacy when dealing with the hides, and he was very talented when it came to printing designs in the belts he made.
When a dragon flew down from the skies for the first time in Biraun’s life, he was but fourteen turns. He was frightened of the foreign beasts that were so large they could block out the light from the sun when they flew directly in front of it. Where some people ventured out of their modest dwellings to stare in awe of the creatures, Biraun locked himself inside and kept his little siblings close at hand. He was the only one at the house at that time since his dad was off in the shop working on an important project and his mother had gone to the local market for some supplies. When a knock came to his door, Biraun refused to answer it. The stranger was insistent to the point that he threatened Biraun until Biraun finally relented and opened the door. He came face to face with the exact thing he had despaired over. An enormous, leathery-brown dragon craned it’s thick, muscular neck towards him and studied him with that frightfully intelligent eyes.
Biraun was the chosen as a candidate by this massive beast, and he was far from being compliant when it came to going with these two strangers. The man who accompanied the monster was incredibly strict and absolutely positive in his belief that Biraun should go with him immediately. This was his destiny, he was told. A destiny Biraun had never imagined would come upon him, and wasn’t a welcome one either. The dragonrider was adamant and said that his family would suffer from horrible business if he refused to go to the Weyr. Biraun, who was raised in a rather superstitious family, was scared into finally agreeing to go with the dragonrider who was quick to strap him onto the dragon and escort him to Artemis Moonlight Weyr for the last hatching there would ever be in that Weyr for many years on Pern. Biraun watched as a neighbour took his siblings and scooted them into his small home, a home he would never see again.
Although the search rider was punished for his unacceptable behaviour with the candidate, Biraun was against being a candidate for the short stay he had at the Weyr before the Hatching. At the climactic moment, when he was standing on the burning hot sands in the Hatching Ground with one of the last clutches and the worn-out queen observing her young’s birth, it suddenly struck him. When that little bronze dragon slipped out of it’s egg and stumbled across the uneven earth towards him, he was frozen in a state of blissful disbelief. It was at that moment when he looked directly into the vulnerable little creature’s many-faceted eyes, swirling with fear and uncertainty, that he suddenly felt his own hatred and fear slowly melt away. From that point on, he and that little bronze dragon were bonded for life, and with his dear friend, he knew they would support each other through anything. Although still upset with being abruptly taken from his modest life out in the countryside, away from his loving family, B’raun knew he couldn’t go back, and his life was meant to be here in the Weyr now.
When B’raun had the opportunity to go on a dangerous journey to a new time with the powerful-willed Sitareh and her gold dragon Aviciath, he took up the challenge, predicting the fall of the Artemis Moonlight Weyr was inevitable. He quickly took flight with his bronze dragon, Klazariath, and went on the expedition of a lifetime, being one of the original founders of the new Weyr in a far off time, Araelen Weyr.
