Name: A'dis (born Adonis)
Age: 17 turns
Rank: Searchrider / Trader
Gender: Male
Preference: Men
Physical: Between he and his twin sister Ameerah, A'dis is definitely the beauty. From his mother’s dark skin and his father’s cream, he received a creamy brown that never seems to burn. Luminous green eyes are large and framed with a fringe of long dark lashes, flecks of gold and black visible within his iris’. His hair is a raven black, glossy and glinting almost blue in the sunlight. It falls over his eyes in sharp and uneven strands, giving him the appearance of always needing a haircut. A straight nose rests over thin lips that are usually tilted at the corners into a small frown. When it comes to the rest of the body, he stands at average height, just barely reaching the five foot nine inches mark. He is very fit with well-muscled frame and a trim waist. A'dis’ training has given him a lithe and flexible form, and he does not let it go to waist. Across his body, small scars are visible, pale pearl-colored lines that dance across the flesh of his arms, chest, and occasionally his back. While these are small, these are plentiful - a hardship that came from training with weapons. When he fights, even sparring, it is with complete seriousness, and he makes sure that his partners have no intention of coddling him when it comes to their weapons. He is usually dressed in the same bright and vivid colors that his sister wears, a common trait of their family’s train. He wears an eye-popping crimson tunic that makes his skin seem even darker, a pair of leather breeches, an a vivid azure blue sash tied about his waist.
Personality: A'dis is a serious and dark young man. He does not go out of his way to make friends, for he has his twin, his sister who knows more about him than anyone else in the world. What use does he have for more friends? The young man lives in his own little world that is occasionally occupied by Ameerah, filled with constant activity. He practices dancing with his sister on an almost daily basis, an exercise that never fails to thrill the two. He also adores blades, and as a trader, there were always at least a half-dozen hidden around his body at all times. He wields them with deadly accuracy, and has incorporated the weapons into several of their dances. A'dis has a tendency of getting into scrapes, as his words have a tendency of emerging from his lips in a cold and icy manner. He has a serious streak of pride that likes to get him into trouble, and he has trouble forgiving people who have crossed him. He never seems happier than when he is locked in a blade-to-blade battle with a sparring partner, both breathing heavily with cuts marring the surface of their bodies from mistakes made. Ameerah is constantly asking him why he feels the need to punish himself - but she knows. Since childhood, when the girl’s eyes followed the suddenly alluring forms of young men - A'dis’ eyes followed as well. He has never acted on his attraction toward other men, however. He prefers to ignore it. But inside, he is ashamed. And it was tearing him apart. Tearing him apart, that is, until he met his lifemate. The beautiful and perfect Sayurith. Her love and adoration is slowly showing him that there is nothing shameful about his feelings...
History: It was in the middle of the night that A'dis was born into the world, between a scream of his mother and the cry of the female babe that had arrived only ten minutes before him. His mother collapsed on her pile of furs, staring up at the pots and pans that lined the top of the caravan in which she rode, her son handed to her sister-by-marriage who had helped during the very long and very hard birth. The bleeding would not stop, and their mother died only an hour after giving life to her children.
Although the two children were small and born slightly earlier than their time, the children grew up with no adverse health effects. They were true trader children, constantly getting into scrapes with their many cousins, attempting to tease the sturdy burden-beasts that carried the caravans across Pern. Their father was the Wagonsecond, and although he loved the children who looked at him with his deceased-wive’s eyes, he was a traditional man who did not hesitate to reach for his belt strap when his children misbehaved. As such, the two managed to grow up relatively straight-laced and hard-working, safe in a tightknit community of their family. They grew used to trouping about the continent during the day and at halting once darkness touched the skies, crowding around a fire with the sound of hands beating against drums and pipes eerily floating through the darkness. There were always songs and someone willing to dance.
The twins took to dancing at a young age, and by the time they had reached their teenage years, they were quite skilled in many acrobatic tricks and had developed many acts to perform when they halted for brief stops at various holds. It was a way to bring a few marks into their pockets, and they perfected their art.
As they grew older and began to enter the strange world of puberty, A'dis began to feel different. When stopping at a hold, he found himself staring at the broad shoulders of the men who plowed through the earth in an attempt to make a living, yearning for their touch. He tried to ignore it - picking up a new skill from an older cousin glad to teach him. The art of wielding daggers. He learned to throw, catch, and eventually to fight. This new skill brought out a fierceness that surprised his sister, and he was constantly throwing himself into fights with others. Even simple sparring was serious with him, and he seemed to thrive on punishing himself with losing. He felt that he deserved the pain, and he grew hard and distant.
And so their life continued, until the fateful morning when they stopped at a larger hold to replenish their supplies and attend the local gather that was being held. It was Ameerah who saw the handsome bluerider and began flirting. To A'dis’ annoyance, the dragonrider responded in kind, and he probably would have had to deal with their sultry behavior if the bluerider’s lifemate hadn’t stepped in. Apparently, the twins were considered dragonrider material. It was an honor that could not be refused, and their father proudly wished his children luck as they climbed aboard the blue to be taken to the south to reside at Artemis Moonlight Weyr.
A'dis was discovered by his beloved Sayurith, and he finally felt complete. He had found his heart-mate. But the being chosen by the green meant that his secret was known to all, and although that gave a potential amount of freedom, the new Weyrling felt the shame. Even after the turns passed, he could not quite get past his Hold-bound morals, and quickly, his satisfaction with Weyrlife faded.
He was not kept distracted by Weyrling training, paying only enough attention to learn the necessary knowledge to be a suitable dragonrider. He became restless and snapping, talking back to the Weyrlingmaster, pulling dangerous stunts, anything that he could do to break the rules without endangering Sayurith. Normally, he would just indulge in a dagger fight, adding new scars as a release to the pain within, but fighting was forbidden for dragonriders, so his only outlet was taken away.
Then Sayurith's talent as a searchrider was discovered, and he came to the attention of the Junior Weyrwoman herself. She told him of her plan to jump to the future, recognizing correctly his desire for something new, something that he could throw himself into and forget his thoughts. She knew that she would have to invite some of the lesser colors along for the rider (fighting Thread would be impossible without them), and a Searchrider was an asset to possess.
Thus, A'dis was invited and Sayurith was forbidden by Aviciath to mention any information about the jump. The pair escaped not long after bronzes began to disappear, and they found themselves at the beginnings of Araelen. What the future will give to them, they have no idea.
Dragon: Sayurith
Age: Just past Weyrlinghood
Color: Green
Description: Sayurith is one of the smaller dragons of her clutch, though she is far from being the smallest. Even as a hatchling, she carried herself gracefully, and this grace has followed her to adulthood. She is graceful in the air, twirling and diving as if each movement were the sweep of a paintbrush, and she is one of those dragons who can move about on the ground with that same refined and elegant form. She is lean and serpantine, her neck a graceful curve, her body long and subtly tempting. Her hide is a pale green hue, the color of spring buds before they have had a chance to open to the sun. The same paleness lightens across her chest into an almost silvery green, winding across her stomach and swirling over her sides in faint tendrils that gradually darkens. Her paleness gives her an almost fragile appearance, frail and hesitant as the spring. But looks are deceiving, for she can fight Thread with as much enthusiasm as a bronze - even if she lacks their stamina.
Personality: Where A'dis sees darkness in the world, Sayurith sees the light. She is sweetness to his bitterness, love to his despair. She thinks that A'dis is the greatest person on the world, and not just because he is her rider. She is not conceited or manipulative in the least, and this often time gives her an innocent, almost naive view on life. She cannot even fathom such emotions in herself, and thus cannot see them in others. She is friendly to everyone, though she is easily intimidated by the larger bronzes and golds, and will gladly try to offer advice to those who need it - though there are times when her advice seems questionable. Because she sees the best in everyone, she has no problems being open with the entire Weyr - much to A'dis' dismay, for his lifemate has no qualms telling his problems/personal issues with other dragons. Why are you upset? she would ask with genuine puzzlement. Modthryth thought that your dreams were very interesting, though neither she nor I can figure out how that can be fun for humans.[/i]
