Character Name: Auria
Age: 17 turns
Gender: female
Preference: Males
Previous Position: Dancer in an entertainment caravan
Current Position: orphan and now sole guardian of her young nephew, Rannell
Appearance: Auria is about five feet, six inches tall, slender to the point of “skinny” but very wirey and surprisingly strong for her frame. This is due to her dancer’s training. Her hair is long and straight, a medium brown with golden-red highlights, and her eyes appear too large for her face, round in shape, and are a rich cocoa-brown with long reddish lashes. She has a heart-shaped face, little pointed chin, and a small nose that ends in a “button”, making her look much younger than she is. She is, or was, quick to smile, until the very recent past. Her skin is fair and she has a liberal sprinkling of freckles across her nose and cheeks. Most probably would refer to her as “cute” rather than “pretty”. She moves with a dancer’s grace.
Personality: By nature, Auria is fun-loving and light-hearted, but this has been stolen from her recently by Thread. The sparkle in her eyes has been replaced by the shadows of horror. She has a touch of mischief in her, and is just enough of a tomboy that she has always been known to ride, climb, run and swim as well as any of the boys in her clan. In fact, she always tended as a child to prefer playing with the boys than with the other girls, for they would look down on her as being “unladylike”.
History: Auria is – or was – the second child of four, three girls and the youngest a boy. The births were spread out a bit, with her two younger siblings quite a bit younger than herself, the brother being only five turns when Thread fell on Pern again. Her older sister, twenty three, had a child of her own, and Auria was in charge of watching her little nephew, age two turns, when tragedy struck. Her mother (Kantra) and sisters were all singers and dancers, like herself. Her father, Rand, had a magnificent tenor voice and was a skilled musician on many instruments. However, rather than training officially as harpers, the clan had come from a long tradition of travelers, and would stop at Gathers, and anywhere a group of people needed cheering, putting on plays and entertaining. Some would dance and sing, others would tell fortunes, others would run gaming booths.... Their caravan was, thus, out in the open the day the Thread returned.
Auria will never recover from the memory of screaming pain, the sickening sight and smell of her family and their dreybeasts being devoured. The monsterous thing even consumed their wagons.... She wanted to save them, she wanted to so badly ... but only she and the baby, slung on her back in his carry harness, made it to the water in time.
When the sweep rider found them, she was clinging tightly to little Rannell, promising him she would never leave him. The toddler had cried himself out and slept, exhausted, whimpering in his nightmare dreams, all the way to the Weyr.
He was all she had left in the world.
Position in Family: Second oldest of four.
Pets: None
Alignment: She will lean toward Loyal ... because the dragonriders have been proven right. Thread really has come back.
Dragon's Name: Nefertith
Dragon Appearance: From the moment she steps forth from her egg, Nefertith will be catching eyes wherever she goes. Her hide is a rich, classic metallic gold that would be the envy of any goldsmith, as bright and burnished as the most sought after jewelry by all those of wealth and prestige. The shade fades to a creamy, almost tan-gold color brushing along her wing membranes, but her original shade shines through in darker ripples like wind-blown lines in the desert sand.
Like her mother, she is a sizable gold, although somewhat less so due to the fact that she is tall rather than bulky. She has the build of a Terran gazelle – long-legged, lithe, and graceful. Her head is somewhat small, at the end of a long, proudly arching neck, lined with prominent neck ridges. Her shoulder blades, too, are prominent, and can be seen rippling beneath her hide when she walks, much in the manner of one of the lither, speedier spotted jungle cats. She is not so much long bodied and serpentine as she is tall and narrowly built, although as her tail is normally proportioned compared to her longer neck, she may appear a bit top-heavy at times. Her wings, however, are built to balance this out, so she will be neither an exceptionally skilled nor poor flier by gold standards.
Her face, like the rest of her, is narrow, with prominent facial bones and elongated features. These give her the refined, regal look of a Nubian queen, with lovely eyes that are more almond shaped than wide. Very dark, nearly black-gold streaks run from the back corners of her eyes like the classic Egyptian markings of antiquity.
More grace than power, Nefertith has the former in abundance and the latter in surprising reserve. She is anything but frail, as shows in the muscles that ripple subtly beneath her smooth hide, more than a match for any bronze in the weyr.
Dragon Personality: Perhaps even more so than most golds, Nefertith exudes an aura of regality and natural leadership. She will always be a mature dragoness, with an able and ready mind quick and eager to understand as much as she can. She tends to act as though games and childish behavior are beneath her. After all, she has to keep up appearances as a gold of Pern! While her responsibilities come first, however, that isn’t to say she won’t indulge from time to time – after making sure no one else is watching, of course!
Despite her cool, regal attitude, Nefertith may seem surprisingly soft-spoken for a gold. She seeks to retain her composure no matter the situation, and generally is very clear-headed. However, those who look to this voice of reason in times of crisis may, at first, be disappointed. While she is quite intelligent, Nefertith cannot be rushed, requiring her own good time to mull over a problem and come to a solution. She is quietly ambitious, and does, as golds do, like to be in charge, but she will defer to the guidance of fellow golds when necessary, never one to put her own goals over the good of her kind.
Nefertith rarely engages others in conversation, not out of shyness, but worry that she will act inappropriately for a gold. She takes it upon herself to always be the calm, respectable leader others can depend on, and not give others cause to doubt her which would be problematic in a situation requiring perfect trust and cooperation. She feels that at her rank, she must be above pettiness and mistakes, and is very much a perfectionist. However, Nefertith is as much a normal, mortal dragon as all others, and will be very frustrated with herself when she cannot act in accordance with her own strict standards. She may also be lonely, afraid to talk to others for fear that she will reveal that she is, in fact, normal, and therefore not infallible.
She is not as cold as she seems, she just takes her responsibility to other dragons very seriously. Should one ever find their way through the sizable barrier she has erected around herself, they would find a truly compassionate dragon who none can surpass in devotion. With a rider to help her understand that she cannot be perfect, there are no heights to which Nefertith cannot rise.

Character Name: Trilia
Age: 13
Gender: Female
Preference: Boys <3
Previous Position: Weyrbrat
Current Position: Candidate, Weyrbrat, /Candidate!/
Appearance: Trilia is a petit girl, a noticeable few inches below average for her age. Her straight, black hair flows down to her lower back, tied into an elegant half-ponytail and complimented by a pretty little silver colored hair piece. Her eyes are large and slightly almond shaped, framed by long black lashes. They are a light, glassy blue that's both mystifying and unnerving all at once. She walks with a care-free skip in her step and her smiles are whimsical and endearing.
Personality: Trilia is a light-hearted little girl with an unusually strong empathy. She'll do everything in her power to keep the people around her happy and won't hesitate to help someone out when they are in need. She has a knack for understanding how people's minds work, making her able to see situations from numerous perspectives aside from her own. Though she generally uses this to help people solve their silly little life problems, she has been known to play at people's emotions to meet her own ends. All of her father's doting has left her a somewhat spoiled child. However genial she may appear at first sight, Trilia actually has quite a temper and it doesn’t take much to set her off into tantrums or bold actions that never cease to surprise people. What Trilia wants, Trilia gets.
History: Life had treated greenrider Q'tris fairly well. He had his beautiful green Minth, a loving weyrmate, and a good wine at the ready at all times. In all, he really couldn't complain; sure his life had started off a little rough, but things had smoothed over fairly well! And Minth was soon to rise again; his significant other would be pleased to know that. Everything had gone over very well. That is, until he'd woken up in bluerider Brell's weyr instead of his lover's. Quite the most unexpected place to find himself. For one, Brell was a female, and two, Brell was about as interested in men as Q'tris was interested in women. Well, nothing came of the venture and the two departed as though nothing had happened (though it strained on his relationship with his lover). That is, until a few months later when Q'tris discovered he was going to be a father.
The result of the most bizarre situation Q'tris had ever been in was a premature, bright blue eyed angel that he fell absolutely in love with upon sight. Brell placed the child in foster care, as was custom, and rarely took notice of her, but Q'tris was not so easily placated. He took the liberty of naming the little girl Trilia, after his mother, and made a point to visit her, his first and only child (for obvious reasons), as often as possible.
As Trilia grew, she was doted upon endlessly by her father. Both child and parent drew delight from each others' attentions and smiles. The other foster children began to whisper about her parents but Trilia wouldn't have any of that, and ended the issue by reminding them that their daddies didn’t come to see them every day, now did they?
But as Trilia reached the age of eleven turns, Q'tris began to wonder what would become of the child. She showed no interest in any kind of craft, preferring instead to be among dragons at all times. Minth confided in Q'tris that she had spoken with the other dragons and many agreed that Trilia would make a fine candidate once she was older. And this suited Q'tris just fine. But when Q'tris overheard two bronzeriders speaking in hushed tones of a massive time jump to the future, Q'tris nervously looked into the rumor. And sure enough, Aviciath and hers were planning to take the best and flee to the future, where they would begin dragonkind anew. Fearing that all hope of his daughter becoming a dragonrider was about to be snatched away, Q'tris took the jump with the others. But planning it was a little more difficult than most; he was bringing his precious Trilia with him. Their 'death' was arranged to be an accident, where Q'tris took his daughter out for a ride on Minth, 'unknowingly' into a storm. Before they could escape Minth fell and Q'tris and dear Trilia went with her.
And thus, eleven-turn-old Trilia found herself in Arealen weyr, where, as there is no foster care yet, she has taken residence in the candidates' barracks. She decided quite plainly that at eleven turns, it was simply strange to be living in her daddy's weyr. The only problem with this arrangement is that she has gotten it in her head that /she's/ a candidate, when she's clearly too young to even stand at a Hatching. And there's nothing that Q'tris says that will change her mind.
Position in Family: Only child
Dragon's Name: Helennith
Dragon's Appearance: When one looks to the horizon just as Rukbat sets, to catch a glimpse of the last golden rays reaching velvet fingers into the sky, this is the colour of Helennith's hide. She is a dark gold, far darker than her pale mother for sure, and her rich hide is streaked with a rust colour, much like the rich red's that appear in the sky when Rukbat does set. This rusty red is especially concentrated on the tip of her snout, tip of her tail, underbelly, and wing membranes, giving her the look of a burnt gold, as if her edges were singed by a fire. There is also a light dusting of pale gold on her shoulders and back, almost like freckles, and it is only here that she bears resemblance to her mother's colour at all.
When it comes to size, however, Helennith is much more like her mother. She is small and dainty, though she will definitely reach the expected minimum for a queen and top all of the Weyr's bronzes. There is just a delicate look about her entire form, making her appear smaller than she is, with narrow wings, a short and pointed snout, a long and whip-like tail, and a short torso. Her limbs compensate for much of this, for she is quite leggy for a gold, though they remain slender and delicate like the rest of her body. All of this in addition to her shy demeanour make Weyrfolk just want to snuggle her up and not let her exert herself in the slightest!
Dragon's Personality: Quite unusual for a gold, Helennith is very shy. She is demure and quiet when interacting with others, even having difficulty meeting their eyes on occasion, and she lacks the sometimes haughty pride of the other golds. Helennith is quite content to sit back and let the other Queens run the Weyr, and she is actually quite glad that there are so many other golds around at this time. This will no doubt be rather perplexing for her rider, for all gold dragons should want to be in control and in power, right? In Helennith's case, she will be loathe to step up to lead when asked, and it will take her rider's coaxing to do so. Perhaps, however, rather than being the result of a meek personality, Helennith may instead be avoiding the spotlight due to a niggling insecurity that she won't perform as well as the other Queens. After all, she has a lot to be compared to!
Although quiet and difficult to coax from her shell (figuratively speaking, of course), Helennith does enjoy the company of others and likes chatting with other dragons, especially when soaking in the Lake. She will not take command of the conversation and may be reticent to engage others, but when addressed, she will reply in an eager, if muted, manner. She really does seem to be concerned about how others will view her, lending credence to the earlier hypothesis about her reasons for staying out of the spotlight, and doesn't care if it's a green she's speaking with or another gold, being equally respectful and hopeful of returned affection in each case. It's when she's speaking to males that the shyness truly takes hold, making the rest of her quiet manner seem far more bold in comparison, for she is very aware of their consideration of her and is equally attuned to them. Helennith is very liable to be swept off her feet, for she is a bit of a hopeless romantic. Unfortunately for her hopeful suitors, Helennith is just as liable to be swept off her feet again and again, finding herself intrigued by every new love interest and perhaps even forgetting old ones. This isn't due to a lack of loyalty or love, for Helennith is extremely committed to her rider and friends, but the young gold may think every young bronze she meets is the one. Hopefully she will actually find ONE at some point!
Finally, Helennith has one more trait that may cause her rider a small bit of strife. She is rather obsessive, as well as compulsive, and picks up on various little habits that she just /has/ to perform. For example, she loves collecting glows. Dead or alive, she steals them (or has fire lizards do the dirty work for her) and keeps her stash in her weyr next to her dragoncouch. This way, Helennith has her own little night light! She also is very picky about being clean and must have a bath immediately after eating. Thus, her rider may have quite a challenge learning to adjust to Helennith's schedule!
