Character Name: Cora
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Preference: Males
Previous Position: Sucks at life
Current Position: Self-proclaimed headwoman's apprentice
Appearance: Cora is the kind of girl that's easy to overlook, as she can be described as nothing but average. Average in weight, just a little above in height, light brown hair with no special gleam, sea-green eyes that are rather pretty and change with her clothes but whose eyes don't? She walks briskly, as though there's always something important that needs immediate tending to. Her hair is cropped short, often secured in a make-shift bandanna (Although this is a fashion preference, as it's really not necessary). But watch out, as unimposing as this young woman appears to be, she's got quite a set of lungs. And I don't mean for singing. Her glares can make even the strongest of men quiver in their boots. She walks tall and has pristine posture, chin slightly lifted, hands always occupied with important duties. A surprisingly intimidating young woman, once you’ve been on the receiving end of her temper.
Personality: Cora is everyone's bossy big sister who tells mom when you do something wrong. She's a stickler when it comes to making sure chores are finished. And although she'll pick up the slack when others aren't efficient, Cora will also be the one to whip slackers into shape, rest assured. She's loud, she's clever, she's capable, and she's D’gellin's worst nightmare. Cora does, occasionally, have her gentle moments. Helping raise some of her younger siblings has instilled her with the ability to deal well with children. One might even argue she has a soft spot for them. Not that anyone will get the chance to see that side of her though! Cora's a relentless nag who's convinced she knows everything. And she'll stand firm to her convictions, even when proven wrong. She's the last person to back down, mostly because she doesn't ever back down! However, for all her bravado, Cora has one itsy bitsy little problem: she’s terrified of dragons. And she's living in a weyr. Oh boy...
History: Cora was the first born of two loving, typical holder folk. Though a little clumsy and not the most beautiful creature to walk the earth, her parents had high hopes that once their daughter matured she could be married into a prosperous family, and bring subsequent wealth to their own family. Cora's parents were by no means forceful about this; it wasn't a necessity. But as Cora grew, alongside her two-turns-younger sister, Cora herself began to strive for this goal. For Cora had a little problem. And this problem came in the form of her graceful, beautiful, all but perfect younger sister. The rivalry, however one-sided, drove Cora forward. She became a self-proclaimed expert on all there was to know. She put herself into situations she wouldn't have otherwise. She did everything she could to prove that she was better, even though she wasn't sure who exactly she was trying to prove this to.
Her efforts appeared to be on the verge of success when a young man began courting her. He was handsome, charming, and successful, a journey-man-to-be; perfect. However, the longer she enjoyed his company, the less interested he appeared in the young woman. And before Cora knew it, she was watching her man walk off with her younger sister. Ashamed and alone, Cora turned to the only person she could to get her away: her newly appointed dragonrider brother, D'gellin. It took all of Cora's self-control to keep herself stationary as the intimidating bronze Lancetoth burst out of between and landed across the field. And it sapped every bit of her strength to make that horrifying jump into the darkness astride the monstrous creature, but she'd made it to Araelen. Where she promptly took up a self-proclaimed apprenticeship in the field most suited to a loud, bossy, know-it-all such as herself: headwoman.
Position in Family: Oldest
Relation to Existing Character: Sister of D'gellin
Pets: n/a
Alignment: Loyalist

Character Name: Arysa
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Preference: Males
Previous Position: Apprentice Harper, Candidate
Current Position: Journeyman Harper
Appearance: Arysa is just barely on the tall end of average height. Her long-legged, slender figure gives the impression of grace without making her seem delicate - she's by no means gaunt, but there's very little spare flesh on her frame. She looks exactly her age, not childlike as many young women are, nor more mature. Her youthful body has curves in just the right places.
Arysa's thick, copper hair is worn in a braid to keep it out of the way, and when released flows in gentle waves down to her hips. Long lashes frame eyes that were once the bright green of a dragon's hide. Now those eyes are clouded with a blue film. Her pale skin was untouched by the freckles that many red-heads suffered from, but a small dark birthmark face is partially hidden by her hair.
Her hands are what you would expect from a Harper: delicate, callused in places from many hours of playing but otherwise smooth and unmarked.
Personality: Arysa is in general a very easy-going woman. Very little really bothers her, and she rarely loses her temper. Part of this is because she's been raised to be very self-confident and relaxed; part of it's because she makes the effort call the situation before tempers flare. As said before, she's supremely self-confident, and this leads her to be very trusting, because she knows that she can handle any drama that comes her way. This isn't to say she never feels a negative emotion; she's human, she cries, she worries, she even occasionally mopes, especially since she lost her sight. But IN GENERAL she's calm and cheerful.
This is not a prudish woman. In fact, she practically sleeps in a different bed every night. The social and sexual dynamics of the Weyr suit her. She's not looking to settle down with a family, and since neither are most dragonriders it hasn't been an issue for her. She has no wish for kids, although she doesn't mind them. She even likes some of them. She just doesn't want any of her own. She uses sex like she does her music - it can be a great emotional boost and encouragement.
Since the fever, Arysa has been a little less confident than usual. Helping others has given her something to work for while she finds steadier ground within herself. She's found that rescuing others from their own insecurities helps her to better accept her own handicaps.
History: Arysa's parents met when her father, Andru, was the resident Harper of the hold her mother, Ritia, was the head cook. The relationship never progressed to marriage despite the children that were born, but they were both comfortable with the arrangement and few people in the hold thought to confront the formidable Ritia about it. Arysa's older brother showed no talent for music (and was in fact completely tone deaf) but neither Andru nor Ritia considered him a disappointment, especially since he was more than happy to work beside his mother in the kitchens. Arysa, on the other hand, showed an aptitude for music at a very young age. She was by no means a prodigy (as her younger brother turned out to be) but she worked hard and loved the music, which shone through in her work.
She was quite happy to be sent to the Harper Hall at eleven turns. Once there, it was discovered that although she was excellent on most instruments, her voice was only passable and she couldn't compose worth beans. Her determination pulled through for her, and at seventeen she reached Journeyman status. She spent a year back at her family's home with her mother, father, and older brother (her younger sister had been sent by this time to the weaver hall, and her younger brother had walked the tables the year before and was a junior Harper at another hold) as junior Harper under her father's tutelage. At eighteen she was given an assignment traveling between remote holds near where Araelen Weyr would be. Her first sight of dragons fired her imagination - what would it be like to ride such a magnificent creature? She was even lucky enough to be Searched, and brought to the Weyr as a Candidate. But before there was a clutch on the sands, disaster struck.
Arysa had contracted an unknown disease on her travels. For a long time she was feverish, hallucinating, and racked with coughs. She missed her chance to stand at the first clutch, and for a while the healers thought she would die. But finally, the fever broke, the hallucinations went away, and the coughing stopped. That's when they discovered that she'd never be able to be a dragonrider - the long fever had left her almost completely blind. She could only see vague shapes, and her vision slowly worsened until it was gone entirely.
Although she will never be able to be a dragonrider, and never even see the dragons again, she was allowed to stay on at the Weyr to assist the Weyrharper. It took her a while, but Arysa is now back to something close to her old confident, free-spirited self.
Position in Family: older middle child of four - an older brother, younger sister and the youngest another boy
Pets: none
Alignment: Not sure yet.

Character Name: Rannell
Age: 2 turns, going on 3
Gender: male
Preference: ? ... there's plenty of time to decide
Previous Position: Slung to his Auntie Auria's hip, usually
Current Position: Still slung to his Auntie Auria's hip, only now accompanied by a Geen Pretty
Appearance: Rannell would be two, probably "going on three", judging by his ability to hold conversations, comprehend concepts and get himself into trouble. Ranny's on the baby-fat chubby side, very active, slightly tall for his age. He is also from a long line of dancers, and has an unusual amount of grace for a two-turner.
He has a thick, messy shock of longish curly sand-brown hair with golden streaks in it and huge green eyes -- like Auria's they appear to be too large for his face. He also has their family's trademark smallish nose and freckles, though his are pale freckles and harder to see than hers.
As their clothing are all left-overs and cast-offs from the Weyr lower caverns, Ranny tends to be dressed in clothes slightly too large for him, giving him a rag-tag look that is endearing and a bit on the "Little Rascal" side.
Personality: He's a two-turner, what else can be said? He does go "abnormally dark" at times, and has nightmares about the death of his family. Many of his crying tantrums are due to insecurity caused by the experience, though it's sometimes difficult to tell those from normal toddler mood-swings. Before coming to the weyr and being introduced to firelizards, his moments of laughter were brief and few. Flitters seem to have helped him turn, or at least acknowledge the possibility thereof, the corner of his fears. Those fears are bound to crop up again at inopportune moments.
History: Same as Auria's, essentially. He is the only son of her elder sister Ariska, his father's name was Onnell. Ranny was named for his father and his grandfather, Rand. He was born (in the wagon of a traveling show, his momma had to dance for the money they'd throw ... oops, sorry) to a traveler's life, and began his days bouncing and laughing with the musicians, dancers and singers that made up his large extended clan. The laughter ended when their entire family and the rest of their entertainment caravan were killed in the first Threadfall. Only he and his aunt, who saved him by running for the water and ducking under an overhang, survived. A sweeprider found them, and brought them to the Weyr, the rider's dragon insisting the girl was candidate material.
Rannell is currently sleeping in his auntie's trunk at the foot of her bed in the girls' candidate quarters. This invites lots of tension between Auria and the others; tension of which the child is oblivious, of course.
Position in Family: He is the only child of his parents, though there certainly would have been more, had they survived.
Pets: green firelizard, Fi'Wizzerd, or Wizzerd
Alignment: Oblivious to the tensions around him, as all good two-turners should be
