Name: Sitareh: see-TAH-reh
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Rank: Weyrwoman
Physical Appearance: Sitareh is a beauty and she knows it. Her pride and joy is her hair, a thick tawny mane streaked with sun-bleached whites and thick golds that brush against her hips in long waves. She usually keeps it plaited back in a single braid to keep it out of her way when she needs to. Living in a Weyr at the end of a Pass, where most women cut their hair short for convenience sake, she learned to appreciate the beautiful of her hair.
Her eyes are a mixture of two colors, though they are more amber than brown, weighed down by long black lashes that give her an exotic air. Her cheekbones are sharp angles upon her face, her nose straight, her full lips usually curved into a tiny smirk that reveals a single dimple in her right cheek. She is of medium height, standing at five feet six inches, and her body is lean from the active lifestyle that she had before being searched, and the one she continued after impression. She has curves in all of the right places and she is quick to flaunt these attributes with just the right clothes. She knows the power of flattering clothing on making an impression - and getting what one wants.
Personality: Like most goldriders, Sitareh has a very strong personality. She is very stubborn, a trait that not everyone appreciates (especially her previous superiors), but this headstrong determination has proven to be just as useful as it has not. She is very blunt, preferring honesty to petty white lies. Honesty takes less effort, in her opinion, and time will soon teach her the finer points of tact. Her proud nature has lead to many temper flairs and rivalries, as she has the tendency of reacting brashly if she feels attacked, physically, vocally, or emotionally. Because of her young age, she still carries her reckless nature, unable to imagine that anything terrible could happen to her or her lifemate Aviciath.
Her most defining characteristic is her ambition. The idea of power was one that always thrilled her, and when she was searched, Sitareh saw her path to glory. This path was cemented when she impressed her beloved Aviciath, the one being to whom she shares her soft side. But she realized that being the Junior Weyrwoman was not where she wanted to spend her life – she aimed higher. She wanted to hold the power. She wanted to rule them all. She wanted the glory and the respect that came from wielding such a position, and she was cunning enough to accomplish her desire.
Sitareh is certainly an intelligent young woman. She knows how to turn on her charm and use her wiles to befriend others and accomplish her own goals (some people might call it manipulation, but she just calls it sensible). Like most of the females in the Weyr, she is very in touch with her sexuality, and thus enjoys bedding with various men (dragonriders or not) whenever the urge strikes her. Her Hold-bred morals have long since been replaced with the more relaxed Weyr ones, and it shows in this. But she is sensible enough not to get emotionally involved with anyone. Indeed, she dislikes the thought of any sort of long-term relationship or commitment, preferring companionship rather than a love that would only end as soon as she grew bored.
She is not afraid to use whatever she has to get whatever she wants – and she often does so. She does have some redeeming characteristics, however. She realizes the responsibilities that come with being a leader, and thus is unafraid to put in the work. If she demands that others give her 100% of their effort, she puts in her own 110%. She is supremely confident in her abilities, and has the desire to see all dragonriders given the respect that their superior position demands. Araelen Weyr is her life and she will sacrifice anything and anyone to ensure that it prospers beneath her reign.
History: She was born to a large family at Igen Hold, most of whom held a very respectable and important position in the Hold. For generations, the men and women of her family have been guards for the Inner Hold, protectors of the Lord or Lady Holder and their loved ones. It has become a family tradition, and the children are expected to join their elders in this role instead of apprenticing to a craft or trying to impress at a Weyr. Over the generations, their family has become extremely valued for their fighting skills and knowledge with weapons, respected for their unfailing loyalty to their Lord Holders.
At first, only the males of the family served as guards. But her grandmother flouted tradition and insisted on being allowed to serve on the inner keep guard, a position that she had earned. Her gender, she felt, should not keep her from her rightfully earned post. This was allowed, until she got married and began to bear children. Raising her family then became her primary occupation. It was not until her aunt
joined the Lord Holder’s private guard that the women really became accepted into the occupation, beginning when her aunt halted an assassination attempt upon the Lord Holder’s eldest son, a gawky youth who was the heir to the Hold.
So it became tradition to train all of the children of the family for this occupation, boys and girls. Sitareh grew up, learning with her brothers and sisters and her cousins, taught by their grandparents, aunt and uncles, their mothers and fathers. They learned out to block attacks, how to wield simple daggers, how to cause the most pain and to unarm an opponent with only using hands. The children were taught how to use staffs, swords, bows, dirks, even slings that could prove to be useful.
Thus, it was no surprise when Sitareh decided to take her place in her family’s role of protection. She was not the best of the guards, not even close, but she certainly was not the worst. She was young and eager to prove herself- until the time she was sixteen turns old. A searchrider from Artemis Moonlight Weyr had visited, with permission from the Igen Weyrleaders, to search the Igen territory for possible candidates for their unexpectedly large clutch.
With forty eggs on the sand, and one of them a queen, Artemis Moonlight Weyr needed to find as many possible candidates to ensure that the hatchlings would have enough young people to choose from. To her surprise and her family’s dismay, Sitareh was one of two people from
the entire Hold who were deemed dragon-rider quality. She accepted of course, for she realized that being a dragonrider could offer her prospects that she had never seriously considered. She yearned for action that guard duty could not give to her. She wanted prestige, and the rank of a dragonrider would be prestigious indeed. She wanted something different. It was perfect. Her family, although disappointed at first, were intelligent enough to realize that the honor of having
a dragonrider in the family was high, and the usefulness of such a relative would be great.
Sitareh took to Weyr-life with great ease. She delighted in the more lax morals of the Weyr, shrugging off the hide-bound attitudes of her hold. Thus, she decided to stay at Artemis Moonlight Weyr, whether or
not she impressed. This was where she belonged. To be honest, though, the lass was confident that she would impress. A green, she expected, a fighting dragon who would offer her adventures beyond her imagination. So she was just as shocked as her family when the golden shell hatched that day, revealing a starving Aviciath who immediately rushed towards her, whimpering for food even as she raked her talons along a girl who had stepped into her path, blocking her way to her chosen. And Sitareh found the one person who would own her heart, no matter what. From that moment, Aviciath was all that mattered to her.
As the only other queenrider at Artemis Weyr, Sitareh received her first large dose of preferential treatment. She was given respect beyond anything she had received before, attention at all instances. When she opened her mouth to speak, people fell silent in order to listen. She was amazed. She absorbed this treatment as others did oxygen, and she wanted more. However, she constantly fought with the Weyrwoman, who saw the ambition grow within her young charge’s eyes and was unable to halt its growth. Sitareh was furious at the disrespect being given to the dragonriders by the Holders now that Thread was over. A slap in the face, it was, especially after they had lost hundreds of their own throughout the Pass in order to save the skins of the unappreciative land-bound. She urged the older queenrider to halt the mistreatment of their kind, show an iron fist in order to bring the respect and prestige back to their ranks. The Weyrwoman was horrified and refused such action.
Their weyrling training passed without event, as did blooding. They were lucky, having escaped the Fall with nothing more than minor
burns due to char from their agenothree tanks. They became adult dragonriders, and Sitareh became fully aware of the potential that existed in the world. There was a way to return dragonriders to their rightful place in society, but not here, not now. But she would do it. She would bring them back to glory and she would lead them all!
Thus began the scheme to jump ahead in time, a plan that was executed flawlessly. Now, Sitareh and her beloved queen are the leaders of a small group of renegade dragonriders. They have their work cut out for them, whipping the holders into shape while rebuilding an entire Weyr before Thread begins to fall… But Sitarah knows that they can do it.
Dragon Name: Aviciath
Age: 3
Appearance: Having reached her full growth, Aviciath is of average size for a queen dragon at thirty-one meters long. Her hide is a lighter gold than usual, a pale marigold that darkens to a rich antique gold as the colors creep across her belly and her haunches. She is perfectly proportionate, tail and wings just as long as they should be. Only a single scar runs across her hide, a healed line against her left hind-leg, a result from the only time the pair have been scored in Threadfall.
Personality: She is a wonderful dragon to her lifemate, being of a mild disposition. Where Sitareh is given to strong-emotions and is easily angered, Aviciath is much calmer. But she is young too and is easily swayed when her rider wishes to engage in reckless activities: flying without riding straps, certain maneuvers in practice, etc. Having never risen before, Aviciath has only recently become aware of the wiles of male dragons. And being a beautiful queen, she has grown used to having many suitors. Although she does like the attention, she has a tendency of playing games, one moment encouraging their presence, and the next completely ignoring and dismissing them. Such games only seem to make the male dragons try harder to gain her affections, much to her amusement.
