"Lancetoth...
please stop squirming." D'gellin pleaded as he gave his dragonet a boost up. The weyrling knew dragons grew quickly but this was ridiculous. Wasn't it just the other day that he could cradle the bronze in his arms?
But I can not reach, mine! Lancetoth replied, more upset with himself than his rider. He snapped at the luscious piece of fruit high above their heads, hanging tantalizingly ripe on the branch of a tall tree. Just before he could get to it, D'gellin's green fire-lizard popped from
between and snatched it.
"YES! Great job, Mother!" D'gellin cheered, then let out a cry of despair shared by his dragon as the flitter dropped it...and it hit the ground with a splatter. Sighing, the weyrling carefully hoisted Lancetoth back down.
What a waste! Lancetoth cried, snorting in displeasure at Mother's antics.
That was for D'gellinmine! Don't worry, Mine, your Lancetoth will avenge your fallen fruit! The bronze made to chase after Mother, who chittered irritably from her perch, her wings unfurled in what might have been an intimidating gesture.
"Nah, don't worry about it." D'gellin dismissed the matter, grinning despite it all. That particular fruit had happened to catch his fancy, but he could survive on the meat-rolls he packed for their little excursion. "We should probably head back anyway." He added, noting how far Rukbat had moved across the sky since they'd set out.
It was as he looked back down at Lancetoth that he saw it: a redish-purple blossom. It hung from a small bush a little ways off, looking vulnerable and strangely beautiful. He'd never seen anything like it before. D'gellin tilted his head, narrowing his eyes in concentration, but he couldn't place a name to the plant. He carefully reached down to pick it, wary of the dangerous-looking spikes on the stem.
Mine? Lancetoth queried, tilting his own head in curiosity.
But Lancetoth's question was left behind as D'gellin took a sniff of the plant. The world seemed to melt away as the strangest sensation overcame him. It was like nothing really mattered. His limbs got heavy and sluggish, numb to everything around him. Time seemed to slow, and his vision swam. "Woah.." D'gellin blinked rapidly, wavering on the spot. "I need some air." He added distractedly, staggering the two feet from the the jungle back to the beach. The intoxicating smell of the flower filled his nose. It wasn't until he was leaning against a tree that he realized he still had the plant in his hands.
Mine? Are you okay? Your mind doesn't sound right... Lancetoth's worried voice melted away before D'gellin could make sense of it. Lancetoth nosed his rider's hand, hypersensitive of all the flowers around them now.
"...Wow..." D'gellin muttered, a loopy smile alighting his face. He suddenly jumped up, though sloppily. "We should...I don't know...do something!" He declared, looking around at the world. Everything seemed to focus too sharply, and he felt a rush of adrenaline that he wasn't used to. "LET'S CLIMB A TREE!!" He suggested, far too eagerly. And with that he turned and struggled to climb the tree next to him.
Mine.... Lancetoth said uncertainly, dragging out the word.
What are you doing...?"CLIMBING A TREE! Obviously." D'gellin called back cheerily, poking his head out from the branches with a wide grin.
Lancetoth's eyes whirled an anxious yellow. D'gellin's mental link felt fuzzy and distant.
Alright... He replied, unable to be his usual bold self in the midst of such confusion. D'gellin's head disappeared back into the branches, babbling happy but nonsensical things to himself. Lancetoth suddenly wished someone else would come by. They weren't far off the beaten path and it was a nice day, so hopefully there would be others on the beach. Others that might be able to make sense of what D'gellin was doing (the boy was saying something about flying fish now)...And he really hoped they didn't sniff the flowers too...That might be bad...
"I'M GUNNA JUMP OVER TO THE OTHER TREE!!!
"
No you will not D'gellinmine! You get out of that tree right now! Lancetoth demanded in alarm. He had a sneaking suspicion that this just wouldn't end well...
((It's still December 1st where I am. So I don't know about you guys, but for me, it's
not December 2nd yet. And thus I post my intro. Har-har...
I'm pushing limits here. And I know it. XD;; Uhm, I made up a plant, savvy? My excuse is that something new must have come around during the dragonriders' absence. This plant only flourishes on this particular beach near Araelen, 'cause it's temper-mental that way. It's scent has a euphoric effect on people, making them numb then stimulating adrenaline at the cost of logical thinking. Dragons aren't affected. It's only dangerous when it's in bloom, and it's only in bloom three sevendays a turn. It's effects wear off in about a half hour So, yeah. :< Basic plan: cracked out RP where everyone can be totally random. The dragons are the voice of reason. :3 And I'm way too tired to be posting anything right now. XD;; I'm afraid I'm going to be embarrassed of this post when I look back at it tomorrow...oh well...guess it was worth a shot anyhow...YAY INCOHERENCE!!......
....LET'S ALL CLIMB TREES! lawl...
Didn't turn out as good as I'd envisioned it in my head :'< *emo'z*))
