the THIRTEENTH pass
of the Red Star orbiting Pern
Of the original weyrs, only three remain - Igen, Telgar and Fort.
Ista and the Southern Weyrs, as well as Southern Hold, fell into the sea in the Tenth and Pass as the seas rose.
Benden, which was acting as a secure place for important documents at the time, was overthrown and burnt by Holder-folk in midst of the latter Tenth Pass, when the new Weyrleader and Weyrwoman refused to fight deadly Thread out of denial of its continued existence.
High Reaches was flooded when the glaciers of the snowy wastes receded and the mountains once again reclaimed their territory and hallowed lakes.
Any of the four destroyed Weyrs' Holds were renamed. In the 13th pass, conditions have slightly improved, with holders begrudgingly respecting their only salvation- the flame of the Dragonkind. However, many holds are greedy or cold to Weyrfolk. Cargo trains of traders and black-market merchants roam this wild souther lands, at a time when Mother Nature is in a race to reclaim her piece, and Dragonriders struggle to survive and to embrace a world where their thanks for their life's work and peril are usually blank stares. All the while, the thread just keeps falling harder...
- The Western and Eastern Island chains have several Weyrs.
- Mutations are common, localized and vary from Weyr to Weyr.
Yes, AVIAS impacted the menacing Red Star, a rogue satellite orbiting Pern, bringing with it a deadly trail of Thread. For a while, all was peaceable on Pern... except strange climatic events began to occur, slowly at first. Many thought nothing of this, and Pern began to belive the Red Star was gone... then, The glacial regions began to retreat over the years. The climate grew much hotter. Soon the ocean had swallowed up much of the landmasses, and many Weyrs and Holds. The Southern Continent all but abandoned, when reports of the worst began to reach the remaining Weyrs in the north. The most prestigious of these Weyrs, Ruatha and Benden began to question if the deadly menace would indeed return. In terror and outrage from all the inhabitants of Pern, it's existence was continually denied. High Reaches was lost to the snowcaps, but went mostly unnoticed as the weather challenges became severe. The Red Star and it's tail of terror DID indeed return to Pern- this world now, in the 13th and most caustic pass yet of this Red Star... But not before the Weyrs were challenged in chaos by the holders and even the most glorious of Weyrs has fallen. Pern had lost many of it's once strong force of Dragons and their bonds. A few Queens and their riders settled in the south, away from the politics and hysteria now plaguing the north. Strange and dreadful years passed, where dragons laid dead eggs in the summer heat, ages where thread fell into early winter and harder then ever before. Mutations occurred, but dispite all this; Weyrs were built on hopes, and dragon's wings...
Moon Lake Weyr then rises as a wealthy family of holders supports the efforts to bring back the cherished dragonkine. The southern continent and the remaining Weyrs must now ally together to fight what can NO LONGER be denied. Horrible threadfall has returned.
It seems the impact of AVIAS has twisted the orbiting mass dubbed the Red Star. Unpredictable events have occurred. The outlook is grim and further effects are unknown at this time. We have only our spirits, kept strong- and our song.

THREAD
In most areas the grubs that destroy burrowing Thread have been destroyed. These areas, called weakspots, are unknown, so dragons must get as much Thread as possible and be very meticulous. The Weyrs are weak in number and have many holds and halls under their charge. The Weyrfolk are ever vigil, but exhausted in their quest.
AVIAS
The Red Star was not destroyed by AIVAS, it was simply twisted in its orbit- in some cycles it is even closer to Pern. Threadfall is now heavier. Passes have become less frequent, but are, however, unpredictable. All info on AIVAS was destroyed when Benden was destroyed.
THE DIFFERENCE
Why did Moon Lake Weyr grow to over 600 members strong? Some of these original members, including our Weyrwoman remain- and about Moon Lake, as a collective we have this to say:
If you are looking for a stuffy Weyr, turn back.
If you are looking for harsh posting requirements, leading to hours of grueling writing, hindering the flow of your natural creative juices... (please forgive me for getting a little PG-13) but you must turn back.
We are a family. A role-play and a fan base. We comply to all the rules set by Anne McCaffrey and we have quite a few twists.
We introduce extended colors to fit everyone's personality, but we don't rank you based on color. We rank only based on activity!
We have stimulating plot-lines and opportunities are abundant for all.
We have council positions open and plenty of HIGH ranking adoptables left homeless when we switched to a new format. You have a chance to get in on the bottom level of a Weyr that WILL again grow strong.
As a group, we are extremely close-knit and very relaxed. We are primarily apt to describe ourselves as a haven for writers and lovers of all things Pern, pure and simple.
Our Colors
Gold
Golds are the producers of the weyr, known as queens. They are very large and very rare. When mature, they clutch eggs, which become the next generation. They only impress females.
Silver
Silver Females are middle-rank, roughly the size of a brown. They are able to produce small clutches when mature. They only impress females.
Copper
Coppers are very interesting dragons, first off, they are very rare, also they are hermaphroditic, choosing their sex by the sex of their rider. They only impress riders who are HAD. Males are the size of large browns, females are the size of silvers.
Green
Greens are small, agile females and are the most common of all. They are skilled fighters and quick learners, but do not clutch. They may impress males or females.
Scarlet
Scarlets, like greens, are small, agile females they are fairly rare and it is suspected that they are only found in southern climates. According to many weyrleaders, their color was evolved when several silvers caught a virus that caused discoloration. The browns they mated with also had been chewing firestone, resulting in green sized red females that could clutch, afterward, they had enough offspring for many silvers to have at least one scarlet colored dragon in their background. They occasionally clutch, but do not lay many viable eggs. They may very rarely impress males, normally, they bond to females. They are the spice of the weyr with their flirty nature.
Bronze
Bronzes are large males, able to mate with the queens and assume high ranks, however they have to CATCH the queen first! They only impress males.
Black
Black males are slightly larger than Bronzes, but are very rare. These big boys are also able to mate with queens. Black females are silver sized, and able to hold Jr Weyrwoman positions. They are very fast, clutch small broods of eggs and slightly tempremental. Females are rarer than Males. Females only impress females and males have only been noted to impress males, although at other foreign Weyrs, extremely rarely; males have been impressed to females.
Brown
Browns are middle sized males, able to mate with coppers, blacks, golds and silvers. They are fairly common ard very crafty. VERY Rarely, they can impress to a female, but most typically, they are bonded to males.
Gray
Grays are smallish males, suspected to be nothing more than washed out blues or albinos with mutation. They are very intelligent and fairly common, though not as common as typical greens or blues. Rarely, they bond to females, but most usually males.
Blue
Blues are the lower-ranking males, though they are very quick. They are very common and usually very intelligent. They impress females sometimes, but usually prefer males.
Mutant
Mutants are also fairly rare. They vary from weyr to weyr. ((One of my characters has a silver/green))

I have been a member of Moon Lake since 2001 and greatly enjoy the different feel of a non-canon weyr. One of my characters is impressed to a Black and is a Junior Weyrwoman. My black is due to rise soon and will have a clutch on the sands. It is a very friendly atmosphere and we do out best to help any one new that joins. I go by the name of Ladyfrost there if anyone is curious. I will talk to our Weyrleader to add you to our links.
