Chapter 1:
Haha, just kidding. Although this probably will be a bit of a hefty read, all of the information here is provided in the hopes that your roleplay experience in Araelen Weyr is the best possible!
1. All right, first of all, Araelen Weyr is accepting all new members. Feel free to sign up today, with no obligation to create a character right away. As you might have noticed, I like to rhyme. Characters of all types are encouraged/wanted, from apprentice Harpers, to candidates, to pre-existing dragonriders. Be adventurous!
2. In order to begin the rp experience, you must first submit a Character Application in the Character Application section. We certainly are straightforward here, aren’t we? Instructions on completing the application, as well as the appropriate application form itself will be provided in that section. Once you have been approved, you may begin rping with your character wherever you please!
3. Although everyone seems to want them, mary-sues are simply not encouraged in this forum. Characters are much more exciting when they have depth and emotion. Try to create some kind of interesting twist for your character, be it in that character’s past or personality. Nobody is perfect in the real world, so they definitely shouldn’t be in the rp world! In fact, rps are an opportunity to be a little outrageous, a little less perfect than what generally occurs. Be exciting!
4. In terms of ‘transfer riders’, or those pre-existing riders that arrive at the Weyr after they have already Impressed dragons, Browns, Blues, and Greens are readily accepted. Just be careful to work in their ‘transfer’ with the plot of the Weyr. Perhaps they decided late that they too wanted to leave the old Weyr? …something along those lines. If you would like to ‘transfer’ a bronze rider, this will require special permission from one of the site's Meddlers, either M'kel, Shikai, or tany. The reason for this is simple: the number of bronze riders in the Weyr must reflect the general averages given in the Pern books. There cannot be 20 bronze riders if there are only 2 green riders. Y’see? Although, this plot line does allow for a few more bronze riders that might otherwise be expected. Thus, if you are wishing to transfer in a bronze rider, state this as your preference, but allow a second choice colour of dragon. As well, private message one of the above listed Meddlers on the subject.
5. Candidates! You must realize one simple fact here, although it irks everyone about this wonderful world of ours: there are not many gold dragons. Therefore, there will not be a queen egg at every Hatching. Although almost everyone wishes their female candidate a gold egg, we simply will not be able to meet the desires of everyone. Be content that this is a relaxed canon site in which your female character has the opportunity to Impress a green, blue, or perhaps even a brown dragon. The same goes for males, in that not every male will Impress a bronze. Please state your first and second choices and be content with what you receive, as the Meddlers will be attempting to match your character to an appropriate dragon hatchling.
6. Multiple characters, after you have proven your activity and ability to rp, are encouraged! In the first month after joining, you may want only to create one character to get things started off. If you feel after a few weeks of rping with this character that you can easily handle another, go ahead! The more, the merrier! Don’t be afraid to take on characters of different personalities, backgrounds, or statuses. Be adventurous! You should also note that the more green riders, blue riders, and brown riders that we have, the more opportunity there will be for gold and bronze eggs. So if you want to give at least one of your characters a good chance at Impressing a desired hatchling, stock the Weyr up on members!
7. Be logical in your character choices. If your character is a known criminal, they will probably not be allowed to stand at the Hatching!
8. You must receive permission in the Special Requests section, after your Character Application has been approved, for your character to have ‘special’ qualities about them. This includes already Impressed fire-lizards, speaking to all dragons (obviously, there may be only one or no characters with this ability, as it is in the books), relations to any of the important figures of Araelen Weyr’s world (Lord Holders, Masterharper, Weyrwoman, etc.), status as an important figure, and controversial pasts (ex. if your character did kill someone in a fight once). It is encouraged that there be Lord Holders, Harpers, and relations to these characters, but this must be applied for specially. As well, if you were hoping that your character would be the sister of an existing Lord Holder, etc., private message the person who roleplays that character. They may be quite willing!
9. Characters are allowed to have different orientations. There will be no bashing of these characters! It is completely legitimate in the world of Anne McCaffrey with male green riders, as it is perfectly legitimate in the real world! The only restrictions are that bronze riders and gold riders must be straight.
10. Please, if you have any questions, feel free to private message any of the Meddlers!
Pern and the Dragonriders of Pern are copyrighted by Anne McCaffrey. The content of this site must not impinge upon this copyright, as the ideas of the world and the creatures within are hers. We are merely playing in the world she created.
