Delano stretched lazily on the warm sands, basking in the sun's warmth. His firelizards were curled in and amongst the folds of his clothes, humming softly in sleep. Delano watched the cotton-ball clouds drift overhead and imagined what it would be like to soar amongst them. To be elevated so high over Pern, where no one could find you, made his stomach surge with surprising elation. He shifted slightly to eliminate the uncomfortable feeling and in doing so woke up his bronze flitt, Laidon. It's eyes whirled with annoyance so he patted it comfortingly and it slowly closed it's eyes and resumed it's rest. As was usual, thoughts of his business plagued his mind. He wished that once in a while he could merely be. Nothing to worry him, no past to haunt him, no questions for the future. Just to be. He slowly let out a sigh, allowing his eyelids to close. He listened to the water lapping the shore, and he listened to the insects chirping in the jungle behind him. He relished in the warmth and security that his firelizards gave him, and for a moment, although it may have been brief, Delano was at peace.
