((Please note timeline shift, assume Hatching and post-Hatching feast are long over, although those threads aren't finished/started yet )
A sevenday had passed since the Hatching. Although the Weyrwoman was loathe to admit it, all Weyr residents could see that the new dragonets were healthy and strong. Plianth had, somehow, produced a large Clutch of beautiful dragons, and although some of the new Jr. Weyrlings were a shock to all, most seemed to be adjusting quite well to their new roles (*cough* Your name is F'len now, Fallen, deal with it! XD *cough*).
And to the entire Weyr's pleasant surprise...Weyrleader M'kel was finally able to convince Sitareh of SOMETHING, and she agreed to declare a universal Weyr rest day. Except for drudges. And Lower Caverns workers. And Healers. But everyone else was free! As well as a few of the above, if they managed to catch the ear of a sympathetic dragonrider.
Since the Jr. Weyrlings are still far from flight, M'kel made preparations for a part-ay at Araelen Weyr's own beach, beside the dock for ferries and other transport vessels. A fishing net has been strung between two slender poles on the beach for a game of 'Inflated Sack Pass' (or volleyball, in Terran terms). The dock has also been cleared of most water vessels for diving, and the dolphins have cleared the area of questionable sea creatures, so swimming is quite safe for all! There is also a bonfire already roaring, with various meats speared on sticks to roast, as well as white foamy things the Cooks have made up just for the occasion. As well, a table has been set up with mugs of fruit juice, and there is also a tarp hung between two trees for those who need to escape the heat.
Weyrleader M'kel has also announced (once Sitareh was out of hearing range) that he is quite willing to slather the 'Rukbat protection cream' that the Healers made up on any ladies who require assistance. Oh yes, and the Weyrleader has also requested that those who find themselves enjoying the day off far too much with one other person in particular go quite a ways down the beach...there are Jr. Weyrlings around, after all!
So throw on your swimmers (or strip down, whatever you prefer) and head for the ocean! It's a lovely, warm day, with a slight breeze blowing from the mainland, and the waters are crisp and clear.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of the Mystery Event Plot!
