The Masterharper has kindly graced this summer Gather with a wagonload of Apprentices and Journeymen, as well as a Master or two. Those assigned to the Dancing Square are already tuning their instruments, with the occasional lilting tune weaving its way through the Gather crowds. As the evening progresses, more Harpers will trickle in to join the gathering, and the night will erupt in all of the favourite Gather songs, as well as a new one or two. The Masterharper has asked that song requests be saved until later in the evening.

Likanas was asigned a guitar for the gather. "great!" he muttered.
Princess purred and Likanas ordered her to go to the room to be quiet. The last thing he needed was her messing up every thing.
**This probably means I have to sing**
He humed to warm up his voice. He watched as more harpers came in. **At least this gather will have lots of music**
He Tuned his guitar and waited for the Masterharper to give orders.

The music, laughter and gaiety of the dancing square did nothing to brighten the countenance of the bronze rider who sat on the ridge overlooking the festivities. B'kay leaned against his dragon's forelegs where Syth lay sunning, his mood as dark as his dragon.
"It was wrong, just wrong," he said aloud, for the tenth time. Griz, the little brown firelizard with the permanent white scar running across his wing membranes, hiccupped and chirped in agreement.
B'kay scowled at the flitt. "Have you been sipping at my wine when I wasn't looking?"
The brown cheeped and rolled over on his back in his person's lap, all four legs spraddled, and gave a contented sigh.
B'kay took another sip from the cup in his hand, and reached for the flask at his side. It was still half full, but that also meant it was half empty, and he was pretty certain Griz hadn't stolen more than a few sips.
"It's just wrong. It was our weyr. I know she's a queen rider, but it's just...."
... Wrong. Syth snapped back, and sent him a set of emotions that clearly said, "enough, already". The dragon was in a foul mood as well, for he had been crammed into an unfinished, uneven, rough cut couch and was sore all over. The ledge of the weyr was barely large enough for a small blue, and the edge was crumbling away besides. The wind across the lake blew directly into the opening, causing the stalactites on the ceiling to sing and moan all night long. The large bronze was in a dark enough spirit to be losing patience with his own ride.
"Oh. Right." B'kay sighed and refilled his cup, then sat silently watching the dancers on the square, listening to the music, and wondering if any of them hadn't slept for two nights.

The night was growing, the last rays falling as those hawking their wares began to set up lights outside their stands. The dancing square was now more crowded, and the rich smells of food clogged the air. Kan and Dev idly sipping from a shared wineskin as they watched the dancers take to the floor, more and more every moment as people enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. They had their hour off, taking a break and soothing fingers that had bent to the instruments for several hours. Now they watched, and waited. They were looking for something, each scanning out among the crowds of people for...
"Kanamar, where in Faranth's name is she?"
The impatient as ever twin turned to his brother, chewing on his lower lip. Kanamar only sighed and kept looking.
"She'll be here."
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*
Crown would be there, she would. She really promised, and knowing her brother's were Harpers, she even knew where they'd be. But she was in some rather sticky business involving a very nice blade, and her flit. Glomp, it seemed, was a klepto. Already, Crown had gathered half a loaf of bread, a few pieces of fruit, a detailed leather belt with a shiney metal buckle, one Moccasin, a strip of leather, a bead necklace, the sleeve of a shirt, the bottom of a dress, a half-made pipe, a whetstone, several pounds of ribbons (half of which were draped over Euphoria who had insisted that Crown make her look pretty in them and was now preening happily), the lid of a wooden box, a comb, the bristles of a stick, one knitting needle, several hundred pieces of yarn, and a half painted Bronze dragon. On top of that, Glomp had a jade bagle necklace wrapped around him, and Euphoria was crooning over her own matching one.
Most of the things she had given back. Really. But some of the things... Glomp and Euphoria stuffed, Crown had eaten the food, was now wearing the belt, given back the moccasin, used the leather to make a leash for Glomp, was wearing the bead necklace, had given back the clothing and the pipe, kept the whetstone, kept the ribbons (not of her own choice, the owner never confronted her about them), given back the box, the stick, the needle, the yarn, and had tried to clean off Glomp, who was now a color of ebony, and ivory instead of Bronze.
At the moment, Glomp was at the end of his leash, hunched over the small curved dagger in his paws, refusing to give it to anybody. He had seen His glancing at it, had felt the desire overwhelm her... But he had also seen what had happened when he gave His the present right away. She gave them back! So he kept them until he was sure she had forgotten, and then presented them to her quite proudly.
"I can't get it back, sir, I'm sorry!"
With a growl, the trader looked back at his wares and the people watching. Beating the pretty flit to a pulp wasn't something that people liked to hear, and Crown's small stature and wide eyes had people muttering to just let her be. A snarl, and the man informed her she better keep that thing on a leash before marching back, leaving Glomp exceedingly pleased with himself and Crown half amused, half angry.
"Stop stealing things, you naughty little beast! Phoria, you are supposed to keep an eye on him!"
The little creature willingly crawled into His's arms, although not releasing the dagger yet.
"Aww, it's alright. Anyway, we have to go see Kanamar and Deverel!"
And then she was off through the crowds, drawing closer to the music and the cheer, intent on finding her brother's. At the edge of the dance floor she paused, scanning the area, looking for them... Of course, they were the only identical twins in sight, but she knew them for the soft wave of the hair, the kind smiles, the worrying look as they scanned the crowds, looking for her.
With a yelp of excitement she was off, crashing into the boys with a hug that brought both of them off of the bench and onto the floor, Crown attached to them.
"By the First Egg, I missed you guys!"
Hugs all around, joys to be had as intro's were made, and Crown sat in the laps of her brother's, more young and innocent then she had ever looked at the Weyr, enveloped in the safety of their arms. Even as the hour was dwindling up, and (censored from them knowing she was a drudge) stories had been exchanged, she just snuggled with them, caught in the protective stronghold of two older brothers. It wasn't their fault that she had never told them that she was a drudge, letting them think that she was just member of the Weyr. They never had to know, even as she fingered the curved hilt of the blade that Glomp had presented her with. They never had to know.
//-shifty eyes- Hah, the post of d00m. xD Drama will be unfolding, yes?

Near where Syth and B'kay were was another dragon pair. But these two were in much were upraised spirits than the other two were. The forest green female was laying down, front paws crossed, tail curled around her hind legs and wings relaxed and resting on the ground on either side of her. Nestled in between her front two legs was her rider, Minelli. In HER lap rested Spectator, the brown flit looking decidedly bored and uninterested in, well, everything. Which wasn't the case with the darling green flit, Mini, who was looking very happy and excited indeed.
Minelli had discovered her gitar hidden among her bags, and so ecstatic was she to find it that she brought it with her to the gather. But since she didn't want to impede on the dancing square below she held it in her arms and was strumming rather random chords. The green flit was waiting patiently for her to begin. A moment later, a calming, soothing tone flowed from her gitar, seeming to form lazy curls around anybody in earshot. It was another song of hers, but this had no lyrics; it was just a song for the tone, for the music, and the meaning was all up to the listener. After a moment the green flitter's sweet voice mingled with that of the gitar. Laughing lightly the young Green rider joined along, giving her own soft hum up to the wordless song, and after a moment, even Elainuth joined in.
About halfway through the song, the green dragon glanced over to see Syth not far away. She hadn't noticed him before, and seeing the dark mood they both seemed to be in, she lowered her head and gently nudged her rider on the shoulder. Dear, it seems that Syth and his are in earshot, she pointed out delicately.
Minelli glanced over to see them clearly, and smiled slightly. "How could I not have noticed them there? Do you think the song will bother them?" Her hands did not falter in their progress, nor did her voice or any of the three, for that matter. She'd already realized that Spectator would not sing, for he wasn't really taken by music. He wasn't really taken by anything.
They'll mention something if it does. But how could it? Maybe it'll even brighten their mood! The green was daydreaming again. Or about to.
She chuckled, quickly returning her hum to the song seconds after. "It's only a song, Elainuth. I just hope they're not in too sour of a mood, or else we'll probably be getting into trouble..."
((I hope B'kay and Syth don't mind some company ^.^))

((Ah, oui, I agree Kaci ^_^))
A wineskin had already emptied itself into the 'parched throat' of this dear bronzerider, as he had made his wandering way at last to the Dancing Square. It was still fairly early in the day yet, and most of those around the Square were still chatting rather than dancing, but a wine-loosened M'kel was ready get the party ON if there was a willing lady or two. Or three.
He tried a few on for size, winking here and flashing a charming smile there, but his attentions were depressingly ignored. M'kel huffed to himself, for any girl in her right mind would leap for his arm. Where was Skye off to, anyways?
At this encouraging thought, he began to scan the crowd eagerly, but she failed to magically appear. Sighing, the bronzerider glanced around once more and caught sight of a familiar face. M'kel's smile reappeared, and he made his way rather forcibly through the crowd towards her.
"Crown!" he cried, rolling the 'r' slightly. "There you are..." Suddenly, his hazel eyes flickered, for she was draped over two young lads. M'kel's gaze darkened; these boys could be up to no good. After his surprisingly deep conversation with the girl, he felt rather...protective towards her. Perhaps he could save her the embarrassment of tying herself off to such a young fool.
"C'mere," he drawled, reaching for her hand. "Have a dance with me, hm?" M'kel winked, attempting to signal that he was rescuing her, completely unaware at what else it might be implying.

Skye was humming to herself as she swayed through the crowd. She wasn't as graceful on her feet as usually and her cheeks were flushed. She had had her fair share of wine at this gather and she was smiling at the relaxing feeling it was giving her, not thinking of the head ache she would wake with. Though it things worked out right she might have a handsome bronze rider to wake with in the morning.
She glanced through the crowd, giggling as someone made a grab for her bottom, easily slipping by them. She enjoyed the attention, but right now she had one man in mind. She had promised to meet him here after all.
Skye looked around the crowd and laughed softly as she spotted who she was looking for, but he was asking someone to dance already. She pouted and slipped through the crowd, eyeing the girl he was talking to. That girl was way too young for him! She stumbled slightly as some revealer bumped into her. She was bumped again just as she reached M'kel and this girl.
Normally she would have been able to keep her feet under her, but after having as many glasses of wine as she had she landed hard on her bottom, jarring the sling about her and causing her blue firelizard to trill angrily.
She pouted and glared at the crowd as she struggled to get to her feet. "M'kel, I could use some help," she called out to him. She was not jealous of that girl, or at least she wasn't about to let M'kel know she was.

For once, everything was going right. Kanamar had a surprising sense of humor when you were close to him, and the droll expression he had just struck as Deverel was telling about one of their escapades was too much for her. Doubled over laughing, she missed the first yell, howling as Kan made a face, and Dev tried to stop his own laughing. It was the second part, with a voice she had become used to that caught her attention. Thank goodness both of the males hadn't caught what she now recognized as her name.
The girl stiffened, quick mind racing as she tried to figure out what to do. Apparently, she had no choice in this, as her brother's met his gaze with their own hostile ones. Who was trying to put his moves on their little sister? It didn't help that Euphoria, who liked the Weyrleader, trilled at him happily. But even the soothing hope she seemed to bring to the crowd did nothing for the small group.
'C'mere.'
She avoided his hand, pushing it back silently as a warning, begging him with her eyes to just go away, but he seemed not to catch the meaning.
'Have a dance with me, hm?'
A dance? Non pulsed, she rose, shrugging and saying,
"Ummm, sure?"
xDxDxDxDxDxDxDxDxDxDxDxDxDxDxD
Kanamar turned to Deverel, his eyes wide. Deverel had an uncharacteristic ugly look on his face, a half-snarl, and the rash twin rose up to knock Claudia's hand back down from where she was about to offer it. The jerk had just winked at his sister. He was dead.
"I don't think so."
Kanamar, generally one to calm down his twin, stood next to Dev, efficiently blocking Claudia from view.
"Back off."
He said, stoic and calm, so unlike the snarl that Deverel had used. They saw the knots, understood the rank, but it meant nothing to him. Claudia, sighing, wiggled between them, rolling her eyes.
"Guys, it's cool."
And at this point, Skye entered, dropping next to M'kel and pouting. Claudia shot the girl a look, but ignored her. Greenriders, flirty no good whores, while Deverel gave her an appraising look. However, her words displaced his ideas.
'M'kel, I could use some help.'
"My dear lady,"
The Harper crossed to her side in a moment, offering a hand,
"Let me, please. It is a pleasure to help any of such beauty rise from a place that she is not fit for. You should be standing, where we can admire a beautiful face."
Hah, this poor cad thought he was going to touch HIS sister. And look, making this girl think that she needed to talk to him. It was outrageous. Kanamar, at this point, had been staring at M'kel, his eyebrow cocked, his stance lazy. But if you knew him, as Crown did, you would see the anger broiling just under the skin.
"Just walk away now," he attempted to warn him calmly, when Claudia pushed at him roughly.
"Honestly Kan, chill. I'll dance with him, yesh."
Grabbing the Weyrleader's hand, Crown/Claudia dragged him out in the middle of the dance floor, and then kept going straight through to the other side.
"I can't dance. What the hell are you doing, numbskull?"
She forgot she was a drudge at this moment, her anger fresh in her eyes, flames licking around the irises as she stared at him. She didn't think of herself as pretty or even attractive remotely (if she'd get rid of the baggy clothes and stopped throwing her hair back, she'd be gorgeous), and she could only assume he was being an idiot to be an idiot.
Deverel, meanwhile, let them go only after Kanamar had snapped, calling him off. With an ugly snarl, he bit his lip and turned back to the girl, his face turning into a charming smile.
"Would you dance with me, Miss? A beautiful woman should never be without a partner, and though I am sure you have many suitors, I am due back at my post soon."

[[OOC: I would love to back-time this a bit, as I'd been wondering how to make sense of the fact that B'kay went from brooding and drinking to muster up the energy to head for the craft stalls. This is perfect!]] She chuckled, quickly returning her hum to the song seconds after. "It's only a song, Elainuth. I just hope they're not in too sour of a mood, or else we'll probably be getting into trouble..."B'kay took another sip of his wine, and sighed deeply. He was so lost in his mental complaining about having been ousted from his weyr, that he didn't even notice the song that floated through the air, until the green dragon joined in, and Syth, against whom he was leaning, began to hum along, very softly, more a vibration than a sound. Startled, the Weyrlingmaster looked over to see Minelli and Elianuth, just in time to see the girl smile. Mistaking it for a greeting, B'kay flushed slightly, not sure how to respond. Social niceties were definitely not his strong suit. So, he raised a hand in hello, just a bit, enough to be polite, and said, "That's a lovely tune, I didn't know you played." ::Doh:: He mentally smacked himself. How stupid was that, of course he knew she played, everyone knew where the harper talent lay in a Weyr!"I, um, I mean, I knew you played, I didn't realize you played so well." There. That was better.Actually, Mine, Syth said, No, it wasn't.

Minelli saw the Weyrlingmaster lift a hand in greeting and speak. She smiled and nodded, acknowledging the greeting, but waited until the song was finished before actually replying. Mini stopped and gave an inquiring chirp; were they playing another. Giving her a patient look, and lifting a finger to tell her to wait a moment, she turned to the bronze rider with a lovely smile. He might not be socially adequate, but she certainly was.
Harpers normally were.
"It's fine," she assured as he corrected himself with an easy-going chuckle. "I normally don't play a lot. I just found my gitar earlier this seven-day." She gestured down to the instrument and then noticed that he was drinking; she didn't mind, really, and he didn't seem too drunk. Actually, he didn't seem drunk at all. He must have just started.
"Are you having a good time?" she questioned cautiously. It was obvious that B'kay wasn't in the greatest of moods, but it certainly wasn't because of the gather, right?
Elainuth, meanwhile, cheerily turned her head to the fellow dragon. Hello, Syth, she greeted the bronze. How are you? It was a pity the dragons couldn't go to the dancing square; she'd have such a great time! Especially if her rider played.
