Kimber sighed for like the twentieth time since reading the candidate chore list. She hadn't met the two candidates she had been assigned to work with. She entered the laundry room and looked around, noting that she was the first to arrive. She chewed her bottom lip lightly as she glanced at the piles of laundry all over the room, her nose wrinkling slightly. At Harper hall everyone did their own laundry so this was a change.
She shook her head and stepped completely into the room, nudging a pair of pants aside with her foot as she made her way to the wash basin. There was already warm, clean water in it. She glanced around for the soap as she rolled her sleeves up "Might as well get started, I really don't want to get scolded," she muttered to herself as she grabbed the first few pieces of clothing. She made a face and dropped them into the water "Oh this is going to be fun," she muttered sarcastically as she began to scrub vigorously at a stained shirt.
She shook her head, her black hair brushing her cheek with the movement. She hoped that the two boys assigned to this chore with her would show up soon, there was way too much for her to do alone.
Kimber began to hum softly to herself as she worked, finishing the first few items before taking them over to the rinse water. She rinsed them and dried her hands so that she could tie her hair back out of her face. She found a basket to put the clean clothes in to be taken outside to hang out to dry. From the doorway she heard something and turned to look, hopeful that it would be one of the others, but it was just Dazzle, the canine had followed her.
She smiled and motioned for the canine to lay down out of the way, just in case one of the others didn't like canines. She turned her attention back to the task at hand, placing her hands on her hips as she sighed once more. She shook her head again and went back to work.

Just where was that other candidate that was supposed to help her anyway? She frowned and glared at the clothes that she had already washed, her fingertips were sore from scrubbing all those stinking clothes, in some case literally stinky. Kimber blew out a puff of air, blowing her bangs from her eyes.
She grumbled and picked up one of the baskets with the clean clothes and made her way out to the lines to hang them on, grumbling the whole way.
Once outside she turned her face up to the warm sun, closing her eyes and smiling at the feeling. She sighed and turned her attention back to the task at hand. She began hanging the clothes up to dry, watching the dragons winging their way over heard running whatever errands it was that dragonmen did.

((sorry. my computer kicked the bucket before I got around to this))
Iraink glared at Sidhka, who was following him gleefully all the way down to the laundry room. What if the girl he was supposed to be working with was a thread dropper? She probably was. Most of the people here were. Of course, all the people at the hold had been. So it was kind of an improvement over his childhood dwelling, even if Sidhka had found him there.
She had told him that it would be a good idea to help with the laundry when they'd read the notice on the candidatemaster's door. She mentioned something about how they would have to go back to his miserable father if he didn't do laundry with the thread-dropper.
Iraink slipped through the entryway awkwardly, Sidhka hot on his heels.
"H-h-hi..." he stuttered nervously. He always hated having to make conversation with thread-droppers, even ones he hadn't been able to prove yet. "What...do we need to do?"
It was then that he glanced around and realized that there was no one there. How typical of a thread dropper not to do what needed to get done. He glanced at the large piles of filthy clothing. He had no idea how to wash them. He'd spent most of his childhood wearing the same clothes he wore now.
Wait for her to come. She'll tell you. Anyone would if they thought you would do the work for them.

(its alright I understand ) Kimber hung up the last piece of clothing and gathered up the basket, heading back inside. Her fingers were still a little wrinkled from the scrubbing of the clothes she had just hung up. Her shirt was damp from where water had splashed out onto her. She paused in the door way when she noticed that someone else was in the room. She smiled brightly. "Hello," she said cheerfully as she stepped into the room, setting the empty basket down. "I started with out you, I hope you don't mind, but there are so many clothes here and I think it'll takes up a long time to get them all done. Probably more then just one day," she said with a soft sigh, shaking her head as she looked at the piles of clothes. She made a face and stepped over to the tub of luke warm water, tossing more clothes into it. She glanced over to the boy, noting that he had a green fire lizard. She smiled and started scrubbing. "If you've not washed clothes before I can show you how," she offered, glancing over her shoulder at him.

Iraink stared at the girl. She didn't seem so bad. She'd offered to teach him to do it even while she was going about washing the clothes. That contradicted Sidhka had said. Maybe this girl wasn't a thread-dropper after all.
Sidhka! he glanced at her, hoping she heard his silent call.
What? she sounded mad at him. If she was mad at him, he wasn't sure what he would do. She couldn't be mad at him. Maybe if he explained his situation to her, she wouldn't be mad at him.
Sheek...I'm not sure she's that bad... he whispered. Even in his head, he was ashamed of the naivety of his thoughts. Of course she was a thread-dropper. How could he possibly think anything else?
Still, she had offered to teach him to wash the clothes, so he might as well learn if he was going to have to wash them either way. He nodded slowly, watching her warily. His momentary comfort was gone with Sidhka's anger, although he'd never admit that was what had caused it. "Yes..." he finally said, "Th-th-thank y-you"

Kimber smiled softly to the boy, he seemed so shy or frightened. She shook her head slightly and gathered a handful of sweet soap sand as well as grabbing another piece of dirty laundry.
She dunked the cloth under the water with the sand, scrubbing it together between her hands. "Its pretty easy to do, its just a pain to wash other people's clothes," she said, making a face at the clothes in the water. "At Harper hall we had to wash our own clothes, we didn't make one or two people do it," she said with a sigh.
She tilted her head and looked at him, smiling as she shifted to give him room to put his hands in the water if he felt comfortable to do so. "Or if you like you can rinse the clothes I wash," she offered, nodding toward the other basin of clean water. "Just let me know what you want to do, or you can just watch and keep me company," she said with a bright smile, not wanting him to feel uncomfortable around her.
He spotted the green firelizard and grinned "She's very pretty," she said cheerfully.

Iraink stared at the girl. She was treating him like he wasn't some awful creature, as most of the thread-droppers did. She obviously hadn't yet heard that he was on to their game. If she had, she wouldn't be pretending to be so nice to him.
Still, he should do something, so she wouldn't find out. If she was dumb enough not to know he knew about her, he certainly wasn't going to tell the girl. "I'll rinse"
The truth was that he had no idea what rinsing it meant except that he was supposed to dump it in cold water, as he'd seen her do. Smiling at her as realistically as he could, so that there was no way she would know he knew what she was really up to, he took the tunic she handed him and dumped it into the clean water, poking at it in a manner which he hoped would remove anything left over from her washing.
