At first, as B'kay began to speak about the histories, Kitari nodded along in agreement, for she had been spending many a free candlemark scouring mouldy hides for everything she could find on dragons and Thread. As she slowly grasped the direction the Weyrlingmaster was heading, however, an immediate flush rose in her cheeks. He was speaking quite carelessly about the need for queen Flights, and Kitari was currently stroking one of only three queen dragons on all of Pern...
Repopulate the Weyrs? For a moment, the Weyrling fancied she had heard the suggestion that the people as much as the dragons needed repopulating, which only caused her cheeks to redden further. She attempted to hide this by shifting behind Lefayeth's snout, and her gold shifted to aid her, though not understanding her rider's desire to hide.
Kitari strove to gather herself, highly embarrassed by this display in front of her Weyrlingmaster. He was the Weyrlingmaster, after all, and there was no way on Pern that he would ever be making such allusions. She was obviously still flustered over their clumsy rescue attempt, and those thoughts were probably triggered by the recent Flight. Yes, that was why such an interpretation was the first thing to pop into her mind!
"Um," she began awkwardly, a totally uncharacteristic uncertainty in her tone. Kitari cleared her throat, brushing back a strand of curly hair before daring to look at B'kay again. "I don't suppose there is. It will be some time yet before Lefayeth and Gwynevith have matured..." There was almost a look of warning in her blue eyes. "And the Weyrwoman chose a time in which she said Thread would soon be falling...so she has not granted us much time at all to increase our numbers. I guess we will need to rely on the other Pernese, once they realize the threat, and the Continent's natural defenses." Her readings had brought her across numerous mentions of 'grubs', and they seemed quite populous still, according to the accounts of Farmers.
