At her touch, K'ji seemed to tense fearfully, and Brinne felt even more sympathetic for his plight. Hopefully he would not be offended by her bluntness, but the girl was not one to think over her words long before blurting them out. That would take far too much time! However, with a sigh of relief, he relaxed noticeably, much to the candidate's satisfaction. She was still extremely surprised that he was agitated at all by his orientation, for Weyrs were supposed to be the most tolerant places on Pern. And what was wrong with it, anyways?
The revelation that he had experienced scorn from everyone who knew caused Brinne's eyes to widen in shock. How could people be so cruel? "I can't believe that!" she said with a sharp intake of breath. "Why, I think it's adorable." It was cute how shy he was about it, although the reason for it was quite morose. Perhaps Brinne would be able to coax some confidence into him and show him that he shouldn't dislike who he was. There was a benefit to everything, after all!
"Oh, this is going to be so much fun! We can totally dish on guys together!" An entirely uncharacteristic giggle escaped her lips at the very idea. She had never been much of a gossipy girl, but that was mostly because she, generally, couldn't stand other girls. A lad interested in other men, however, would not be competition at all: they were vying after men with different orientations! Brinne's eyes sparkled with amusement. It could be a very unique experience indeed to go on her hunting trips accompanied by another. That way her disappointments could potentially be another's successes!

The truth removed from his shoulders like an imposing weight trying to press him to the ground. She really didn't care! Well, that was wrong; she did care, but not in a bad way. Which was....new. Very new indeed. He'd have to get used to that reaction. K'ji looked at her with shaded eyes, smiling slightly at her comment. Adorable? Hm, well, he wasn't absolutely sure about that. But hey, why not?
Talk about boys with someone... How long had he been wanting to reveal himself without the fear of being shot down by words or by blows. He didn't know if he could still- though Brinne was very convincing- but he knew he could with her. And that excited him a little. Blancheurth, happy for him to be comfortable with someone, relaxed outside and gently pulled her mind away from his, allowing him some freedom.
He chuckled at Brinne's enthusiasm and gazed at her in amusement. She was a very orientated girl, for she knew what she wanted. K'ji sort of wished he could boast that too, but for now, he'd have to make due. "Will they be as...accepting as you are?" he inquired, voice light but extremely curious. Yes, he was still cautious; but who could blame him?

The small smile that traced his lips was confirmation enough that Brinne was reaching him, and she smiled encouragingly in return. It was unlike her to take on a 'charity case' of sorts, but for some reason, the candidate didn't see it as that at all. As busy as she had been doing all of the chores for candidacy and hunting dragonriders on the side, the girl had taken few moments to converse with any of the Weyrfolk her age. It was a surprising relief to feel comfortable in conversation with a person, not needing to analyze every word for its hidden context. She had considered herself far too independent to be in need of friends, but apparently she had missed having someone to share things with. She and her sister had been quite close.
And the prospect of being able to steer potential men in K'ji's direction when they failed to meet her needs was highly amusing in the least. Brinne almost laughed aloud at the very idea, for there was something so unique about the situation that it delighted her to no end. Playing matchmaker could be a fun game indeed, and if it gave her an excuse to meet more men herself, then why not?
As well, there was something so...innocent about K'ji. Brinne had never been much of a motherly sort, but he seemed so vulnerable, that she almost felt that he needed her help. Plus, the fact that she was already meeting with some success in coaxing life back into those dull eyes was rewarding. The candidate's smile only widened at his tentative query. "K'ji, my dear," she said, tone as liquid as honey, "if you find the right man, he will not only be accepting of you, he will want you." Perhaps the choice of words was a tad over the top for a first conversation with someone, but it was truly how she regarded men. Brinne highly doubted that men who were interested in other men rather than women were any different.
Brinne let out an airy laugh, tossing her hair and smiling broadly. There was no thought in her mind that she might frighten the poor boy, for why wouldn't a person wish to be wanted? She sorely did; the thrill of a man's pursuit was what she lived for. "We just have to find the right one for you, of course," she added as an afterthought, looking slightly ponderous. "I'm sure there will be plenty of options here...have you already checked out the other male greenriders? Or are there any?" It was down to business now, and the candidate was very matter-of-fact about this. Her manner might seem intimidating to one who was not so brisk about such subjects.

He looked at her, gaze tinged with amusement. This candidate was certainly out spoken. Once you passed that flirty stage, she actually had quite a depth to her personality. Brinne would be interesting to be around. Especially in this certain aspect.
You couldn't see it in the dim lighting, but as the candidate's words turned serious and business-like, a slight blush rose to the greenrider's cheeks. He smiled at her before giving her a shrug. "No, I haven't. But I would think that there are some."
There are, love, Blancheurth's voice wrapped around his mind like a warm blanket. He smiled.
"Blanch says there is." He fell silent again. Not that he was uncomfortable (alright, so he was, so what?) but that he just didn't know where she was going with this. Okay, that was a lie too; he did know where she was going. But he certainly wasn't going to assume that and just continue with the conversation. And she looked thoughtful enough to the point where she knew exactly what she was going to say. She was the leader of this conversation, and he was perfectly fine with that.

Brinne was quite pleased to see that K'ji seemed to be warming up, however gradually, and his features had even relaxed away from a nearly constant expression of fear. Now he almost looked...amused. Well, she may have been expecting 'eager', but at least he was interested in what she had to say! The candidate reminded herself briskly that he would gain confidence with time; then, this game would be very fun!
As the greenrider spoke, Brinne nodded sagely. 'Male greenriders' were a quite well-known fact, especially since the very mention of them seemed to cause some elderly, conservative men to blanche and appear as if they were in the midst of a heart attack. The girl had no doubt that this Weyr boasted its fair share of men who would be interested in K'ji. Well, so long as the lad wasn't as afraid of them as he seemed to have been of her.
A slight frown creased her forehead, and Brinne's green eyes narrowed in thought. "In order for this to work," she pondered aloud, "we might have to make a few changes." This was accompanied by a sweep of her gaze down his visible form. The lad appeared far too hollow, his eyes nearly sunken in...no doubt a result of the previous negative responses to his orientation. There were some out there who loved 'charity cases', pouring their hearts into raising spirits, but Brinne was determined to find K'ji the best catch in the Weyr. For that, he would need more confidence, more life, and more optimism in those currently dull eyes. It was quite ironic, actually, that Brinne was so determined to find this lad the very best in a mate, while she was willing to settle for anything so long as he rode a high ranking colour...
Suddenly, her green eyes lit up, and a smile broke through the frown. "There's a Gather coming soon! I have an excellent eye for fashion; we'll find you some colourful tunics that brighten up your features, fancy belts and boots, a handsome cape perhaps...but that doesn't solve the problem of your hair." Brinne's nose wrinkled delicately, as she analyzed the tuft on the top of his head. "We could use some grease, I suppose, to arrange it neatly, or maybe some tree sap..." Her head tilted to the side, considering.
