Kerji watched a whole mess of flits hatch and go to certain people. It was a flurry of blue, green, brown, and bronze hide. Not to mention the gold that had hatched earlier, giving him quite a shock. He shifted slightly, his eyes watching the progress with intruige. Then, Lupin nudged his cheeck, and when he glanced over, he pointed down with a wing. Following the pointed out direction, his gaze fell upon a swampy green flit that was gazing up at him. Startled, for he hadn't seen her approach, he gently leaned over and scooped her up.
The candidate fed her a few pieces of meat when the sudden reality of all the people in the weyr pressed down on him. Suddenly nervous, he slipped his way out of the crowd and outside, sitting on a step so he could continue to fed the green. Once she was done, he thought for a moment. "Zami," he said with a smile. The flit glanced up, ruffled her wings, nodded to the brown flit and settled in the crook of his arm. He chuckled.

Minelli, and Mini, were amazed at the amount of fire lizards that hatched forth and bonded to the weyrfolk. They glanced to each other, the green flit shrugging, and the candidate shook her head in bewilderment. She started to make her way to the exit of the crowded bronzerider's weyr, carefully placing her foot on after the other.
She reached the entranceway when the brown started to hum. She paused, surprised, and glanced back. The flit had a nice voice; it got Mini going, so she started to hum along. Rolling her eyes, Minelli decided to stay a little longer, leaning against the wall just to the right of the doorway.

Rytia was a bit more than shocked when a little blue had came over to her. She smiled and looked for food, and once getting some, fed some to the little thing and watched it eat. She sat staring at the little flit smiling happily. It was so pretty, and adorable. She picked up the little creature and smiled. It fussed at being picked up, but then settled down and Rytia feed it more meat, making sure to, like the others, feed it slowly. "Shhh, shhh, there it's okay. Hm, you need a name, how about, Faramond?" Rytia asked only to the little thing. Faramond trilled as he gobbled up the food. Rytia walked out of the room, heading to the candidate barracks with her little Faramond and continued to feed it little pieces.

Draien watched with a pleasant smile as the lizards continued to break free of their shells, interacting with one another as they did so. It was an amazing thing to watch, seeing creatures take their first steps of life out of a shell, and could only hope that he'd manage to see it again. In his quiet contemplation Draien wondered if he himself would impress one, clutching the bowl of meat in his hands tightly, and a sea green fire lizard began to crack open her shell, streaks of olive green tearing down her side as she let out a high pitched trill. Draien turned to watch her, enthralled by her as the little one examined her sandy surroundings. Soon after a gold broke out of her own shell, startling the sea green fire lizards into shrieking again before continuing on as her gold sister latched onto Robika's proffered meat.
The young candidate watched in awe, as though he was afraid it might all disappear if he glanced away, when the sea green lizard darted to a fallen piece of meat, and another shell cracked open loudly. The new bronze lunged after the green fire lizard, eager to get the meat first. With a loud warning, the male snagged the meat from her, and the sea green lizard's eyes widened, and she bounded onto Draien's arm. Not quite expecting the sudden pull on his hair, Draien stumbled slightly, managing to regain his balance as his new companion clung to him desperately, "Hello there." he whispered to the female on his shoulder, reaching out to offer her some of the meat in his bowl, seeing as her previous piece had been stolen away. With a tentative hand he stroked down her back cautiously, ready to jerk away at any sign of displeasure. Instead the lizard let out another trill, and loosened her death grip on Draien's hair, while still holding on haphazardly,
"I suppose I should give you a name..." the candidate's voice was still low, and his mind whirled, attempting to think of an appropriate name for the sea green lizard on his shoulder, "What do you think of Kelra?" The green trilled happily, as though approving of the name she'd been given, dipping her head down to gobble another piece of meat, "Kelra it is, then." Draien smiled happily, exuberant that the he'd managed to impress a lizard, stroking her back once more.

More and more eggs hatched. More and more fire lizards ignored her entirely. Trilia felt a sudden burning of anger in her stomach, particularly when an unexpected queen - so beautiful, so wonderful - hatched and didn't even spare her a second glance. Every lizard after that seemed to follow the queen's example, and the little girl slowly grew more and more acidly aware that the boy next to her had impressed, quite almost everyone in the weyr had impressed, and some had even scored themselves two. There was a moment where her aggravation was smothered by worry as a blue and bronze tore away at each other, but soon enough they'd separated to relinquish themselves to hands capable of tending their wounds. Despair was something wholly new to Trilia, as she was quite accustomed to getting everything she wanted. But for the first time things just weren't working out the way she wished. Again her thoughts wandered to her father. But a quick glance to where he had been sitting showed he had already left the weyr. She didn't even get a chance to be surprised however, for at that moment a pleasantly musical trill met her ears, and then her anger suddenly doubled, as did a pang of hunger. It took her a moment to realize that a brown was staring directly into her eyes, his mouth tugging hopefully on the long-forgotten meat in her hand. Abruptly she let go of the meat, alarmed and suspicious of the brown's actions. But it didn't leave, like she assumed it would. Quite contrarily, the brown gobbled down the meat with a worriful lack of chewing. He paused only to trill with a cheerful musical quality back at the green's voice that had joined in on his tune. Eyes wide with uncertainty, Trilia tentatively offered another piece of meat to the famished fire lizard. He instantly dove on the meat, tearing it down more hastily than necessary in his hunger. "Stop that." Trilia commanded in alarm, pulling what was left of the food out of the brown's mouth before he could choke on it. "You'll kill yourself eating like that..." She paused, her face set in a scolding frown that held an uncanny resemblance to that of her father. "Ronin" She added after examining his pretty colored hide, a smug smile tugging at her mouth. Take that, Q'tris. She deftly tore the meat into a smaller piece and held it out again. "Now this time, let's try chewing, Ronin" She repeated the name again. Ronin quirked his proud head and chirped in acceptance before obediently chewing the meat this time around. ~*~*~ Degellin was all smiles as he fed his large green fire lizard one last piece of meat. Her sides were fit to burst as she curled up on his lap, chirping contentedly. And all Degellin could think was how pretty she was, with her spring green hide complimented by a mossy coloration on the underside of her wing membranes, and...a light suddenly flickered to life in his brain. What magnificent camouflage that would make! She could blend right in to the grass, he bet as he ran a gentle finger along her soft neck. Perfect for outdoor prank pulling. His dreamy smile became slightly more devious as he concocted new prank ideas. But much to his dismay, the green didn't share in his enthusiasm. She made a subtle sound of disagreement in her throat to a passing fancy of her playing spy for him. Degellin frowned, averting his eyes from her piercing gaze. "Alright fine, no spying." He said at length with a heavy, disappointed sigh as he looked at her again, her next chirp suspiciously smug. "Geeze, you remind me of my mother, you know that?" His frown abruptly vanished as he chuckled. "And that's just what I'll call you." The green tilted her head lazily at him. "Mother." Degellin was rather pleased with his choice of name, but Mother just curled back up, chirping contentedly

Mini, startled and excited that the brown had trilled in response to her hum, started to give on a nice fast beat. But instead of humming, she trilled in her soft, musical voice that rang throughout the weyr. Surprised, Minelli glanced to her green and then to the others. She didn't know if the weyrfolk wanted to hear a singing green flit when they had their own to take care of. Though her song was a nice beat...and one she didn't really recognize, to her surprise. So, she allowed the flit to continue her song, but was aware if anyone seemed to be annoyed by it.

Anya was positively beaming as she watched the antics of the hatching fire lizards. All of them were so…unique! In both colors and personality, each was different in some way from the last; each had something special about him or her. So caught up was she in watching the spectacular display, that she very nearly forgot why she had gone in the first place! Why, not just to see them hatch, but to entice one to come to her!
She realized this as the cracking of the eggs slowed and lessened, and the sands seemed quite empty of unhatched eggs. She eyed the people around her speculatively, and noticed that many of them had already managed to attract a lizard or even two, and a sweep of her gaze over the sands revealed that precious few eggs remained. Anya frowned, but the expression was thoughtful rather than unhappy. Probably, she reasoned, she had been so busy watching the fire lizards that she had forgotten to make any effort to impress one, which explained why her meat bowl remained full and her shoulder lizardless.
As irrepressibly upbeat as Anya usually was, she couldn’t help but feel dismayed. She really did want a fire lizard companion. She had seen some of the people at the Smithcrafthall with them, mostly higher ups like Masters and Journeymen, but some of the boys had managed to get a hold of one. Usually, it was because one boy had come across a clutch and managed to snag a few eggs, and then he gave some out to his friends. But Anya, being a girl, had had trouble befriending her often somewhat prejudiced fellow apprentices.
Having a fire lizard of her own would mean that, in one small way, she was equal to them. That their snubbing of her had been unsuccessful in the end, and she had acquired her own precious fire lizard in her own way. Yet she had been so caught up in the moment, as she was all too likely to do, and now here she was, one of a dwindling number of sad individuals who were without a lovely baby flit.
Anya’s mood began to sour, despite her efforts to curtail it. She hadn’t planned on impressing a fire lizard anyway, she told herself. Planning is useless, remember? And this is why. Think, if you had planned on leaving with one today, and made arrangements to do…something, whatever you do with fire lizards, and now it turns out you’re not to have one? That wouldn’t go well!
However, these observations only annoyed her, so she changed tactics. Whatever, so she would try again at the next clutch! Or maybe she would find her own in the sand somewhere, and just take one egg, and then she would be bound to impress! Hadn’t Robika offered to give her an egg from Emanor’s clutch, if she found it? Eventually, she would get herself a fire lizard, to be sure! In the meantime, Anya was determined to enjoy the rest of the hatching, and stop her silly whining.
The first thing she laid eyes upon once she returned them to the clutch was a little blue snout, poking out of a shell as though sniffing the air, testing the world. It was so funny looking; an egg with a little nose, that she couldn’t suppress the smile slowly overtaking her face once more for all the marks on Pern. She watched as he hatched, admiring his undeniably lovely, sapphire blue hide, graced with contrastingly darker hide on his two front legs and head.
He seemed as bright and curious as Anya herself had been before her sad realization that she was unlikely to leave with a fire lizard. A wonderful, despair-melting laugh bubbled out of Anya, eliminating the ill emotions she had felt, as the egg he had been watching suddenly turned into a green, who snorted in his face! He seemed so marvelously full of energy, and hummed happily along in response to the brown’s trills, all the while leaping over eggshells like a racing runner. It brought a smile to Anya’s face, which wasn’t altogether difficult to do, but she appreciated it nonetheless.
She was completely taken aback when the blue she had been watching leaped again…and landed right in her lap! She tried to help him get on to finding his chosen person, when she realized that she was his chosen! Anya had never worn a larger, more jubilant smile, and she fed him as enthusiastically as he wolfed the meat down. Too enthusiastically, for he began to choke on an overlarge chunk of meat, and she had to slow down and remind him to chew. But it was so hard to concentrate on that, because she, Anya, had her very own fire lizard!
