It was Loana's rest day in a sevenday, and she didn't know what to do. She sat on some grass in front of candidate's quarters. She sighed. She didn't feel like gowing to the lake-someone would be likely to star at her. She didn't feel like going anywhere. She sighed agian. She walked over to a near by tree with a bush next to it and flopped on the ground. She looked up at the sky, and watched the clouds go by.
After she thought about it-it was fun watching the clouds. She imagined a mountian out of a big huge cloud that was just above her. Then, she imagined steam flowing out of the moutian.
"Stop it! Your being silly! daydreaming is for childeren!" Loana said aloud to herself.
She got up and leaned agianst a tree. She felt the wind blowing agianst her and it felt good. She still didn't know what to do, and she didn't think anyone would want to talk to her.

Iraink took a deep breath. All the other boys had left to go do whatever plotting they were going to do in their free time. Now would be the best time to collect food for his stores for the next few days.
He took a roundabout way through the hall, circling the other boy's beds to make sure they weren't hiding underneath them to drop Threads on his head when he wasn't looking. No one was there, to his surprise. They must have really been up to something to miss an opportunity to catch him off guard when they were alone.
Reaching the doorway, he slid out into the bright light of the outdoors. He winced at the shock on his eyes, used to the darkness as they were. Staring at the ground and keeping his head low, he headed for the kitchens on the longest route he knew. There might be more of a chance of running into someone, but it wasn't the main route that they were expecting him to take.
His wanderings didn't frequently include paying attention to where the local flora was, and when he found himself running headfirst into a tree, he was a little shocked. He didn't recall a tree being there. He was even more shocked to find a girl leaning against said tree. She was a thread-dropper. He knew it. Just to make sure, though, he thought he would ask Sidhka.
"Sheek..." he muttered, not realizing he was speaking aloud. "Is she one of them? She looks like it..."
The flitter, who had been simply circling the air over his head and laughing at his crash, didn't reply except in one of her ungodly squawks.

Loana was still leaning on the tree, being bored. She sighed. Then, when she was looking around, she saw a boy come out of the boy's quarters. She looked away suddently, because she didn't want to be caught staring. She hoped the boy wasn't one of those who thought they were all that. She looked at his direction, and on the side of her eye saw him run into the tree. She giggled inside of her.
"Is she one of them? She looks like it...
She heard, but she pretended she didn't hear it and looked the other way. She waited for him to go where ever he was going and leave her alone. She agian fingered her pipe necklace.
She didn't need teasing right now.

Sidhka squawked at the girl and landed on her shoulder to squawk in her ear. Iraink shook his head sadly. If Sidhka wanted to harass the girl, that was her business, since she only ever did that to...A'tair? Maybe the girl wasn't a thread-dropper after all...
Iraink glanced at the girl. She looked rather strange, and he didn't recognize her. That could mean one of two things. Either she wasn't part of the thread-dropping group who normally heckled him or she was their secret weapon. Now he was curious.
"Hello." he said boldly. He was in a friendlier mood than usual, and it made him more apt to talking. It wasn't like Sidhka had said the girl was evil. Maybe she was like A'tair and she just didn't know.

Loana looked at the firelizerd that had flown to her shoulder. That is weird....that usually never happens to me... Now she was curious about this boy. Why would his firelizerd land on MY shoulder?Loana thought. She pretended that the firelizerd and the boy were not there. Then maybe they would leave.
But what if this boy and firelizerd was nice? she certantly would not want to make him go away. This was diffenetly different than what she was use to.
"Hello" Loana replied. She waited for him to say something. Because if he was not, she was going to leave and go to the lake. It was getting hot anyway.

Iraink slipped back. He wasn't sure what to say after hello. He hadn't had a decent conversation with anyone in a long time. Well, other than Sidhka, but she was no help. She'd known him forever. How would he start a conversation with someone he didn't know, even if she wasn't a thread-dropper?
He heard her speak, and it was almost a shock to him. Now he had to say something other than hello. He was nervous again, though. What if she was a thread-dropper who was really here to judge him? Well, he would have to make a good impression on her, and maybe they would leave him alone. It was always a good hope to have, that they would leave him alone, even though they hadn't as of yet.
"Hi...How are you?" he murmured slowly, trying not to stutter and give himself away. If she was a thread-dropper and she knew he was afraid of her, she would laugh at him, at the very least.
Sidhka stared at him--the sound of his voice had probably shocked her--and squawked loudly in the girl's ear from her perch on the girl's shoulder.

Loana noticed that he steped back. why did he do that? was he afraid of her? Loana didn't know. She stepped torwards him, curious. "Hi...How are you?" Loana heard him murmur.
"I'm good thank you, how are you?" She replied quietly. The firelizard sqawed loudly in her ear. She fell back, startled from the noise. She got up and smiled at the flitter. If he was not going to start a confersation, then she might as well. She didn't have any thing else to do and he hadn't teased her yet.
"do you....like to do....pranks?"Loana asked him. If he said yes, then maybe they could do a prank on a person togother, and it would be more fun than just her doing it.
She smiled at him, waiting for a answer.

Iraink stared at the girl. Those few words had made him a little bit curious if maybe Sidhka was wrong and she really was a thread-dropper. Pranks were thread-dropper activities. They were things that the thread-droppers used to test him--to see if he would react the way they wanted him to. He'd never been sure if he'd passed the test, but his mother's children had pulled many pranks on him because of his father. Still, maybe she wasn't a thread-dropper. Maybe she wanted to pull pranks on the thread-droppers. He'd have to keep his guard up on that until he was sure.
In the mean time, he wasn't sure what a good, noncommittal answer was. Unbidden, Sidhka told him. Say sometimes, you fool. Tell her it depends on what they are. The the flitter squawked in the girl's ear quite loudly to make sure he got the message.
"Hush, Sheek. Don't talk for me." He reprimanded the creature, smiling fondly at her in spite of his attempts to stay cool around the thread-droppers. If they knew he liked her, they would take her away from him.
Only then did he respond to the girl's query. "Sometimes. It depends on what it is."

Loana waited patiently for his answer. She wondered why the flitter kept squawking in her ear.
"Sometimes. It depends on what it is."
"oh, okay" Loana shrugged.
"Whats your name?...mine's Loana." and Loana held out her hand, like she had seen the grown- ups do when they meet somebody. He didn't seem to want to tease her, or he would of already done it. She glanced up at the clouds, then at the ground. She was getting bored and also getting a little shy for some reason. She didn't know what else to say, so she stood there looking around unintelligently. She hoped he would go away, leaving her in peace!

"Whats your name?...mine's Loana."
Iraink nodded slightly. He wasn't sure it was safe for her to know his name if she didn't already. That was evidence she wasn't a thread-dropper, though, that she didn't know who he was. All of the thread-droppers knew who he was. He was their worst enemy, and he was certain that most of them knew it. Perhaps she did know his name, though. What if it was just a test to see if he would be stupid enough to trust her?
Sidhka... he begged in his mind. What do I do? Should I tell her?
He needed the flit's advice more than he had in quite a while, because he simply didn't know whether or not to tell her his name. Unfortunately for him, she chose that exact moment to squawk at Loana and flick between. So much for being useful. It was only moments before she was back, though, and sitting on top of his head. Quirky animal.
You should tell her. What could she use it against you for?
He pondered that briefly. He honestly didn't know what she would actually do to him if he did or didn't tell her. So there wasn't any good reason not to tell her. She didn't seem aware enough to be a proper thread-dropper. "I'm Iraink."
