Calysta chewed on her bottom lip thoughtfully and a tad bit fearfully. She had seen some scars on a few of the riders she had been so interested in looking at. The looked almost like a combination between a burn and a slash from a knife. She shook her head after a moment "I wonder if it is as fearful as they say. Oh what am I saying, of course it. The dragons are proof enough of that aren't they?" she asked, her shoulders sagging a bit "I mean the prospect of becoming a rider is very exciting, but scary too you know. But we will be needed if Thread comes again," she said with a shudder.
Salem finished wringing the clothes out and leaned his hip against the edge of the wash basin "I think your right about it being not being the dragons that decide who stands for the clutch. I've heard things about the weyrwoman that make me believe that she would not stand to have any rider that goes against her will. If there is a queen egg I highly doubt that a strong willed girl would be allowed to stand for it. But if that hatchling wants the strong willed girl and shes not won't the hatchling just go between because it can't find its rider?" he asked. He thought he had read that somewhere before, but he wasn't exactly sure.

Felina nodded in fervent agreement. "We will be needed, to protect both Holding and Holder alike. And if we do as well as possible, we can keep the ground crews from using agenothree," she said, tugging at her sleeves. She would take the smallest dragon in the Clutch, if she could do that. Even if her dragon was the smallest, they would be the best! Not out of any desire to save what was left of her own hide, but to make that horrid acid obsolete. That would be the greatest thing, she thought, that any Rider could possibly do.
She listened to Salem's question before shrugging. "I dunno. If the hatchling doesn't know about the girl's existence, how can she choose her? But besides, maybe if they don't Stand for a Gold, they could for a fighting dragon. You'd think a strong-willed Rider would be a wonderful thing in that respect, strong enough to flame Thread out of the sky with their dragon." She said nothing of her own desire to Impress not a Gold, but a fighting dragon, one who would sear Thread with flame, not with acid. A Rider, even one who was only a potential Rider, could not be seen showing fear.

Calysta was quiet and thoughtful for a moment, chewing absently on her bottom lip "You do have a point. I don't think I would want to impress a gold either. I don't think I would do so well in a position of such responsibility," she said with a slightly shrug and a lopsided grin "Besides I've heard stories about Greens" she said cheerfully enough to cause Salem to glare at her. She just laughed and shrugged.

"It's not so much the responsibility, I think. It's just... there's something about a flaming dragon," she finished lamely, not entirely sure what words could describe the rush of adrenaline she got just watching them, the majesty they had even when wheeling and diving, and the not-entirely-unpleasant scent of phosphorous. There was a sort of unity in a wing of fighting dragons; a unity you just didn't see anywhere else.
She thought wistfully for a few moments about what it would be like not to just watch the occasional drills that the wings performed, but to participate. Already, she thought of herself as a Rider, possibly a Brownrider. She had no aspirations for a position of high leadership, but to become a Wingsecond would be... She wanted to have a voice. She didn't want to necessarily be a Bluerider who would be largely ignored by the higher-ranked Riders. But, then, even in that case she could overcome that difficulty. She'd train enough that she and her Blue would be as good as any Brown, possibly as any Bronze! Yes, that would suit her just well, soaring through the air on the muscular back of a dragon that glittered blue, more an extension of the sky than something in the sky, more at home there than anywhere else.
"A Green wouldn't be so bad," Felina said, nodding. "Though I've personally no no desire to go down that path. But if a Green chooses me, it would still be the greatest thing that could ever happen. The luckiest thing."

Calysta nodded "I think I would like a green best. I think a brown or a bronze would suit Salem," she said with a grin. Salem gave a slight shrug "Well it probably won't be a proddy green thats for sure" he said making a face at his sister. Calysta laughed and looked at Felina "What do you think would suit him? Oh thats unfair of me you really don't know us well at all, sorry," she said, but her smile stayed in place.

"To each his own," Felina said with a shrug, "Though from what I've seen, a bronze'd make perfect sense," she added shyly. Not that her opinion really mattered in the long run, as it'd be the dragonets, not she, who made that all-important decision. Of course, it couldn't keep her from saying her piece.
"And you'd be a great Greenrider, too-- if you can keep sister in line, I'm sure you could deal with a more emotional dragon. A lot of guys can't do that. That's why they impress lumps of rock like a Brown or Blue; not that I've anything against lumps of rock lacking particularly... forceful... emotions." And it was true. Felina never had liked being forced into anything against her will, and she didn't intend on being victim the the roller coaster of emotions that was a Green. She'd heard the stories often enough to long have decided that.

Salem felt a blush coloring his cheeks at Felina's statement and he couldn't help but flash a smile her way for her honesty despite not know them well "Thank you," he said.
Calysta laughed and clapped her hands together "He is always trying to keep me in line, most of the time I do it out of torment for him," she said with a wink to Felina, ignoring the look from Salem.
Salem shook his head and turned his attention back to Felina "I must admit the thought of having a fighting dragon would be a great thrill. I know that they usually impress to males, but I think that they would do to impress a female from time to time too since some females can be great fighters too," he said with a soft smile and bow of his head to Felina "Maybe thats what attracts me to woman that are strong willed and know what they want in life," he said softly, looking back do to the laundry water.
