The pale gold firelizard popped from Between in the Infirmary, chirrupping proudly. She settled on the top corner of a storage cabinet, and warbled a greeting to The Man's back. (You know, The Man her person is so fond of, who rides the green Big Cousin.) Memory puffed her chest out with satisfaction, for she carried in her little claws a scrap of parchment (Gaylen had taken a liking to the stuff, even though many still preferred hide for writing) rolled into a little scroll. She held it out, chirped again, and waited for The Man to notice her. The parchment would reveal a note, when unrolled, which said: Dear C'lyn,
I'm sorry I haven't gotten down to the clinic to help. Ranny woke from his nap with a very runny nose, an ear-ache, coughing and feeling quite grouchy. A query to the daycare revealed that half the children appear to be exhibiting at least minor symptoms, and I haven't found a drudge yet who is willing to baby-sit.
I've given him a child's dose of feverfew and some horehound syrup for his nose and cough. He's asleep right now in my arms ... which is why my handwriting probably looks like scribble.
I'd have just bespoken Alabanth to Greylith, but Memory has been hearing so much about this new flitter mail service that she really wanted to see if she could do it. I hope this reaches you! If so, you know where the jar of dried wherry jerky bits on my desk are -- I'm sure she'll expect a reward.
Love, Gaylen

C'lyn smiled gently behind the mask her wore as he settled T'rasel onto a bed. He set carefully on the edge of the cot and gently touched the boy's forehead. "Yes it does appear that you have a fever. And you felt dizzy just now?" he asked even as he took out a piece of hide. He preferred writing on it still because it was more durable, especially with his habit of stuffing it into his pockets in his haste.
He poured a mug of water and added feverfew to it, mixing it carefully before offering it to the new blue rider. " i know it will taste terible, but it will help with your fever," he said as he looked at the pale blue at the boy's side.
He laughed as T'rasel relayed what his blue said. "I see what you mean," he said with a chuckle, reaching down to gently brush fingertips along the blue's head.
"I'm afraid I need to ask you to stay at least for the night so that I can observe what symptoms you might have. I know its not where you really want to be, but at least here we are able to come to your aid much quicker then in your weyr," he explained, tucking the piece of hide back into his pocket.
He was about to say something else when he heard a chirp behind him. Thinking it was his green he simply glanced over his shoulder and was surprised to see a familiar pale gold. He gingerly took the pro-offered piece of parchment and unrolled it.
He frowned as he read the note, shaking his head gently. He chuckled gently as he reached the end of the note. He turned his attention to T'rasel. "Is there anything you need at the moment T'rasel?" he asked kindly, hoping that Memory wouldn't mind waiting a moment for a reward.
Greylith, please speak to Alabanth and ask him to tell Gaylen that I understand that Memory wished to try to be like the mail flitters. And that I will be up to check on her and Rannell as soon as I am able, he asked his green and he could feel her relaying the message to the older blue.
