Xiarl was very nervous about this egg touching, but being the elder he had to keep it under control. Little Xiana was wild-eyed with excitement and Xian was as always at her other side. The three of them moved almost as one to the hot sands.
He looked up at the two golds brooding over their clutches. Never had he heard of two golds like these two. They had rose together and laid the eggs together. Much like himself with Xian. Inwardly he was glad he had badgered the Search riders into taking both the twins as well as Xiana. Even if he thought Xiana was much too young to be Impressed.
As he had been taught, he bowed deeply to one then the other gold dragon, gently pushing Xiana down in her own bow. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Xian bowing too. Good, he thought. At least that part of the boring lessons seemed to work on Xian. No matter what happened here when the eggs broke, at least they had clean beds and decent food while they were here. He would hate to have to drag the three of them back to their poor family farm. The past few weeks had made it acutely aware to him how bereft the three of them had been, barely ekking out an existance. Xiana was actually rosy cheeked and putting on some weight in all the right places for a woman. Of that fact, he could be proud. Xiana would marry well in a few years. Not now though. Someone of the three of them should Impressed.
He carefully stepped onto the hot sands, closer to the eggs and remembering a small tidbit, he turned and helped Xiana up. He protectively placed his hand on Xian's shoulder and nodded at his brother. He was not about to show how scared he was at being this close to the eggs. The three of them were not going to embarrass what was left of their family pride. Unluckily he didn't notice that his grip on Xian's shoulder was too harsh and was going to leave bruises. He wanted this 'experience' over with as quick as possible. He guided the three towards one for Xiana first. The Serene Oasis egg was off to the side and nobody had seemed to be interested in it at the moment, so Xiarl headed the three of them there.

Mariya shifted the pack on her aching shoulders off yet another sore spot. The running beast at her side nickered as he caught wiff of the dragons close by. She had chosen this path back to the healers area because nobody rarely used it ... unless there was a hatching. She groaned. News of the imminent hatching had not reached the small hamlet she had been living at for the past few months, midwifing several babies and providing healing services for the dwellers there. There had been an outbreak of the spotted fever among the children, so she had stayed longer than her original 6 weeks because of the quarantine imposed upon them. All she had wanted to do was drop off the load of fellis and other herbs she had gathered on the 6 day trek back and go have a nice soak in the springs. Cold mountain water was a far cry from the warm springs.
As much as she wanted to do that, curiousity got the better of her and she crept closer, but making sure to stay to the back of the clutch area, and well out of the way of the two gold dragons. She had never been that close to eggs. The last hatching when she had been here, was a blur of tending to scratches and greedy, impatient hatchlings. Being a healer pretty much meant that her only contact with dragons would be being dragged from hold to hold on medicines runs and emergencies. That was fine with her, but it didn't stop her curiousity to admire the eggs. "Good day!" she whispered to each of the two golds in turn, mindful already of their bad tempers. "You should be proud," she added as she took in the two clutches. She was already calculating how much numbweed would be needed for the hatching. No matter how much careful planning and training was done, most candidates and some dragonets ended up injured in the confusion that always followed egg breaking. She sighed and turned away. No sense in indulging any more of her curiousity. Time to put the numbweed on. It took several days to make it and by the fact that the candidates were already 'touching' them, made that urgency that much more.
