((I've been putting off this character for as long as I could. xD; At least a year now she's been hanging around my brain, refusing to be silenced, despite her timidity. And so I at long last reward her persistence. Yay Hatchings! ))
Character Name: Jaylee
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Preference: ---
Previous Position: Apprentice Dolphineer
Current Position: Candidate
Appearance:
Light honey brown eyes look out from long dark lashes. Jaylee's thick dark chocolate brown hair, long and wavy, sweeps down to her lower back. Her shorter bangs frame her gentle oval face, a pale visage sprinkled with freckles. Her light, thin lips are almost always slightly parted, as though on the verge of speaking but not quite finding the right words. Although she reaches a startling height, just under 6 feet, her presence is easily overlooked, silent probing eyes glancing up cautiously.
Personality:
Jaylee doesn't speak. Or if she does it's a rare tentative murmur. Shy, quiet, reserved and preferring to observe rather than get involved, Jaylee doesn't make for the most captivating company. But don't misjudge her vacant expression for one of stupidity. Jaylee sees the world through an artist's eyes, relating and comparing, breathing life into what would have none, and finding beauty in places utterly unexpected. And what's more, if she feels truly compelled to do so, she has a way of expressing her visions without words. Despite her tendency to be a wallflower, once Jaylee finds someone willing to put up with her, she clings, follows, and tries her best to please. While this can be a fairly endearing (or annoying) aspect of her personality, this can also leave her open to easy manipulation.
History:
Jaylee, for the most part, has lived a fairly unremarkable life. She grew up near the shore, enchanted by the dolphins her mother worked with. It was no surprise then that the quiet girl became an apprentice dolphineer, though a few aunties argued she could have made a splendid artist if she only honed her skills. She never quite fit in with the other children however, and often required private attention in order to learn even the most base of tasks.
Jaylee was her elder brother’s physical shadow, trailing after the lad like a loyal canine. Early on this had been an annoyance, and Barsel would regularly try ditch the child to escape her clinging to his shirt. Often this would involve performing elaborate or difficult stunts that Jaylee failed to keep up with. When one such incident nearly led to the girl falling from the jagged cliffs to the roiling sea, however, Barsel guiltily became more lenient. Over time it was common to see Barsel, Jaylee, and their closest companion, Fallen, getting into scrapes together. Rarely were the three ever apart.
When it came that they were old enough to be apprenticed, these meetings grew gradually less frequent, however. Barsel, hardy boy that he was, eagerly joined his father aboard the fishing boats. Fallen remained in the Hold as a Weaver, and continued to spend time with Jaylee but to little avail. His eyes had long since grown disinterested with their place in the world. And one day, he too was gone. Jaylee was effectively occupied with her dolphineer training in their absence, though her quiet eyes remained always on the horizon for her brother’s returning ship or any sign of Fallen’s reappearance. Even when Barsel visited home, it was never the same, and Jaylee lamented the lost life, often curling in on herself at the intangible memories.
That is not to say Jaylee was completely miserable. Certainly, working with the dolphins was a dream come true. One of the free-spirited little critters wasted no time in attaching himself to Jaylee, making it easy for the girl to forget Fallen and Barsel while in she and Iggy learned together. The future would likely have seen her forever among the dolphins, but fate had her catch the eye of a dragon shortly before a Hatching. With two clutches waiting and candidates still needed, Jaylee was not even given the liberty of deciding which craft she would prefer before she found herself deposited in the alien Araelen Weyr.
Position in Family: Second oldest

RP History: Long enough
Familiarity with Pern: Familiar enough
How you found out about our site: Ask not such questions! *shifty look*

Reason for this Preference: I can't see her with anything else. She's too timid to be anything of higher rank. Maybe a small effeminate blue otherwise.
