((Someone might need to save these two from each other.))
Kimber hummed to herself as she strummed softly on the lute that she nearly always carried with her, her head bent and her shoulder length hair falling forward to shield her face from her twin sister sitting beside her. Kimber had finally lost the baby fat she had had when she first arrived at the weyr, all the hard work with her brown Ferth. She glanced toward her sister, shaking her head slightly. She was happy her sister had impressed and had a reason to stay at the weyr, but she was worried about her sister as well. She shifted slightly and looked at Emberlyn who was busy writing on a scrap piece of hide.
"You really should make some friends," she said, caushing Emberlyn to jump, her quill slipping and making a line across the page. Emberlyn scowled and slowly lifted her head to look at her twin. "What?" she snapped, narrowing her eyes slightly.
Emberlyn looked much like her twin sister, but was a couple of inches shorter and was more shapely then her slim sister. She shook her head and looked down at the hide, sighing. She had been making notes about things they had learned in weyrling training, wishing to do her best when it came time for Thread and they happened to be in the wings at the time.
Kimber made a face at her sister and set her lute on the table beside her. "I said you should go out and make more friends. I hardly see you, your always cooped up in your weyr now that we have separate ones. You're a dragon rider now, not a scribe," she said, snatching the hide away from her sister and rolling it up.
Emberlyn stood up and put her hands on her hips, scowling at her sister, feeling Emmith brush soothingly in her mind. "I will do as I please Kimber. I know that I'm a dragon rider and thats why I stay in my weyr and study. You and I both saw what happened when Thread came and I don't anything like that to happen to either of us. Now give me my hide back," she said softly, holding hand out for the hide.
Kimber rolled her eyes and shook her head, stuffing the hide into the pouch at her side. "No. I did see what happened and thats why I think we should make more friends. If we know our fellow riders better then we will work better as a team in the sky," she said. "Come on Ember, is it so hard to make friends? If you tried a little harder I know you could easily," she said, looking up at her twin.
Emberlyn shook her head and sighed in frustration. She and her sister had been over this before, she wasn't as out going at Kimber and she had a harder time making friends. She would rather be knee deep in old hides with a quill in her hand and copying the old hides so that what they had to teach wouldn't be lost, especially now that dragons were back and they had lost so much knowledge that no one had thought it possible. "Kimber, give me that hide back now and I might consider it," she said just as softly as before, knowing it was no use to raise her voice to her sister.
Kimber shook her head and stood, knocking her chair over. "No you won't!" she snapped, all but yelling in her twin's face. "You won't do it and I know that. You're nothing but a haughty, nose in the air wherry head!" she screamed at her sister, her cheeks flushed in her anger. Their two canines whimpered and circled around their owners. They were great guard canines, but they were at a loss as to what to do with their owners fighting amongst themselves.
Emberlyn did something uncharacteristic just then, she slapped her sister hard across the face. Kimber stumbled and looked at her sister in shock, her hand going to her right cheek where a nice red hand print was visible. That did it for Kimber, she'd had enough of her sister's haughtiness. She lunged at Emberlyn, knocking her to the ground and going with her.
The two screamed at each other unintelligibly as they rolled about the floor in the Dining Cavern, bumping into chairs and tables as they struggled for the upper hand. Razzle and Dazzle whimpered and hid under a table, their long tails tucked between their legs as the watched helplessly, whining.
Somewhere in the weyr a green and a brown bellowed in confusion and anger as their riders emotions swept through them. Ferth and Emmith took to the sky, bellowing and screaming in anger that they felt from their riders. The two young women ignored their bonds begging them to stop, still grappling with each other, pulling hair and clawing at each other.
