Trilia was quite certain, had she been given the opportunity, she would personally do something awful to whatever horrible person created puberty. Even the word sounded repulsive, like a disease, a twisted marriage between acne and mood swings. The young girl compulsively stuffed her face into the towel she'd brought with her, feeling her face heat up with scarlet embarrassment as she trotted past the Hatching Grounds. What was the purpose of this phase in life anyway? Trilia was perfectly fine without...well without all the things that were suddenly happening to her. Seriously, she thought in frustration, who really needed breasts anyway? And that was just one of the mutations she'd begun to go through! Trilia pursed her lips, tossing her ebony hair over her shoulder as she placed her things on the cavern floor. That however, was a thought she was not going to occupy.
Having reached her destination, her wary eyes glanced around the make-shift 'sauna', lithe body still bent over her things as though preparing flee if she caught site of another person. Steam sluggishly licked the air, making each breath thick with moisture. She strained her ears for sounds of others but heard only the occasional drip of moisture off the stalactites. With a breath of relief, she confirmed she was the only one present (...right?). "Brilliant" She murmured, tip-toeing to a slightly more covered area (just in case) and slipping quickly out of her clothes. The heat felt wonderful, she decided with a smile, dipping a tentative foot into the water and then splashing with contrary disgrace into the hot spring. "Soooooo lovely." She purred to herself, pleased to find the water deep enough that she could sit down on a ledge and still have all but her head and shoulders covered. This little trip was definitely worth it she confirmed, tilting her head back against the rock behind her.
And yet it was not doing what she'd hoped it would do! Trilia had come here as an escape, a place rarely occupied due to the warm Araelen weather, to get her mind off of unwanted topics. And yet as she lay perfectly content, eyes closed and body comforted by the warm water, she still found her mind listing unintentionally towards her concerns. Her forehead creased in displeasure. Was there no getting away from this? She'd hoped her father, a generally intelligent man, would know of some way around this. But all he'd done was blush scarlet from his chin to his hair-line and mutter something along the lines of 'go ask you mother', promptly refusing to meet her eyes again for the remainder of the visit. Brell, of course, was little more help. She'd laughed heartily, gave Trilia a heavy pat on the back, and declared her little baby to be 'all grown up now'. If only. The torture had simply just begun, Trilia lamented as she sunk farther into the spring, dark hair snaking across the surface of the water around her.
Torture really was the best word for this. Even boys were becoming a danger. Once upon a time Trilia could get along just fine with them, even better than with girls. But now they were turning into something delectable, like bubbly pie for the eyes. Her face flushed hectic red as she clamped her eyes shut away from the notion. But it was true! It was getting very hard to look them in the eyes without giggling like a compulsive moron and glowing bashful red. They were just so...so...sooo - SO NOT DWELLING ON THIS! Like a gift from the heavens, a brown fire lizard suddenly blinked out from between, washing cool air over Trilia's heated visage. "Ronin! I was wondering where you'd gotten off to, you silly thing." She chimed, sitting up so that she could offer a forearm before the flitter took to her sensitive shoulders. At least her arm was used to the abuse of fire lizard claws...Ronin accepted the perch with a chirp of gratitude, poking his soft snout against Trilia's cheek, a method of greeting that Trilia had taught him simply because it was adorable. She giggled behind a dainty hand, eyes glittering. "Why thank you, kind sir." She said coyly. Thoroughly distracted as she was by her internal turmoil and devoted flitter, Trilia scratched under Ronin's chin, innocently and obliviously enjoying the hot springs and her little friend's company.

Calysta hummed softly to herself as she made her way past the Hatching Grounds, pausing briefly to look them over with a shake of her head as she remembered the events of the most recent hatching. Ah, but the most recent hatching had also revealed the destination she was headed for with towel draped over her arm.
The hot springs.
She smiled to herself and continued on her way, humming a little to herself as she made her way into the new cavern. She glanced about the room, sighing in delight as the heat of the steam soaked into her skin.
She hadn't yet had a chance to visit the springs, her duties as a full rider keeping her busy now. She was thankful for the free day today and planned to make the most of it and relax. Her green was napping on the ledge of their weyr. It was one of the lower weyrs, but it was positioned just right to get the sun on the ledge most of the day.
When she didn't spot anyone else in the cavern so she simply removed her clothes a few steps from the entrance. Calysta was not ashamed of her body, rather she worked hard to keep her tummy flat and pleasing to the male eyes that she drew. She smiled and laughed softly at the thoughts of sneaking one of those delicious male riders in here late at night.
With a chuckle she shook her head and set her clothes in a neat pile away from the entrance with her towel before she headed for the warm water. She put her thick blond hair up into a messy ponytail, tendrils beginning to curl around her heart shaped face from the humidity. She stretched and stepped into the water, a sigh of pure delight slipping past her lips as she settled into the hot water.
She settled down into the water up to her neck, her eyes closing in pleasure as she enjoyed the head soaking into her skin, relaxing muscles, though she couldn't stop her mind from wondering to thoughts of her poor brother. She sighed and shook her head.
She had visited S'lem earlier this morning and was surprised by his grumpy behavior, not that she could blame him since he was stuck in the infirmary still with his wound. She had left after helping him walk his required amount, letting him snap at her for a while instead of some poor healer apprentice. Her brother meant the world to her and she hated seeing him injured and she knew he hated being injured. She shook her head again and pushed those sad thoughts out of her mind.
She opened her eyes and looked around, sitting up as she noticed someone across from her. She squinted slightly, looking through the steam to see a young woman in the water with a brown fire lizard.
"Hello," she said softly, raising one hand to wave. "I didn't see you, sorry if I'm intruding on your privacy, I just couldn't resist the lure of this cavern," she said, her head tilting slightly as her voice echoed softly in the cavern.
After a thoughtful moment she moved a little closer to better see who else was enjoying the water today. She recognized the girl, but couldn't put a name with the face. "I'm Calysta," she said cheerfully, stopping a respectful distance from Trilia.

Trilia nearly jumped out of her skin at Calysta's hello, however gentle it may have been. With a start, she splashed further down into the water, eyes wide. Someone else was here? But she checked! There wasn't anyone! Did she miss something? Did they come in without her realizing it? Trilia's mind raced a million miles a second as wary eyes attempted to see through the haze, brown firelizard berating her for nearly giving him an unprepared dunking. But as the voice continued to speak, Trilia easily picked out its feminine quality. That, at least, she decided with a heavy sigh of relief, meant she wouldn't have to run for the hills before she was confronted by a potentially naked man. Ew. I mean, guys were nice and all, but ew. Not naked. Puberty hadn't addled her brains that much...yet...
"No, you're not intruding." Trilia found her voice at last, compulsively tucking her hair behind her ears as she narrowed her eyes into the mist again, feeling very self-conscious. You would think years of communal bathing would set her at ease, but her senses were hyper-alert now and she was much too aware of how gawky she looked at this stage; not a little girl anymore but far from a teenager. She looked like a slimmed down eight year old. Short and skinny with just the very, very faintest hints of future curves. Her eyes were still large and round, hands still small, and voice still youthful. All in all, she hadn't really changed all that much yet. But the knowledge that she would...In any case, Trilia was very thankful for the steamy water. Especially when she could finally make out the figure before her. Calysta had a very pretty face. Trilia could practically feel that little pimple on her forehead...
She smiled in return, catching herself just in time from making a reflexive curtsy. Deep water and curtsies didn't agree. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Calysta. I'm Trilia." She replied, blinking bright blue eyes. Of those, she decided as she felt the brush of her long black lashes, she would remain proud of.

Calysta laughed softly to herself as she heard the brown firelizard scolding his person. Her own green firelizard was sleeping with her Luneth. She could barely make out the girl in front of her due to the steam. She relaxed as Trilia informed her she wasn't intruding and she was glad, the water felt so good.
Now she knew why the girl looked familiar, she had seen her on the sands at the hatching, but she had been passed up. She chose not to mention that, not wanting to bring up something sad to the girl.
She settled down into the water not too far from her, but far enough that the steam still gave them a semblance of privacy. "Its nice to meet you too Trilia," she said cheerfully, relaxing into the water up to her neck.
She rests her head back against the edge of the spring, her eyes closing as she sighs in delight at the hot water swirling around her. She is silently for a long moment before lifting her head to look toward Trilia again, her curiosity getting the better of her.
"You came here from the past didn't you?" she asked, squinting slightly to see through the mist. "I'm sorry that was a sudden question," she said with a laugh and shrug.
"My brother often tells me I wear my curiosity out in the open and let it run my mouth for me," she said, grinning, unashamed. It was true, S'lem often scolded her for being to openly curious, but she never saw the point in hiding it.
"I really need to bring him here once he gets better, he could use some relaxing. He can be so uptight sometimes," she said with a softly laugh, shaking her head.

((Eep D:> Apologies for the delay! I'm back now though! =3))
Trilia was generally very content to indulge in casual conversation. She was usually an easy speaker, likely borne from Brell's knack for socializing. However as Calysta attempt to strike up some genial banter, Trilia found herself shying away from finding her voice. As kind as the older woman seemed, she had simply caught Trilia in an unpleasant mood. However, when Calysta inquired about Trilia's past, the young girl looked through the warm haze with surprise and then a self-conscious smile.
"No, it's fine." She replied politely. "Yes, I came forward with my Daddy." Trilia confirmed with no attempt at concealing her pleasure on this matter. She was surprised at how, though she did not initially want to converse, she easily she slipped into the motions of speaking. "It's nice here, but I can't imagine living without dragons until now! It would be so...so..." Trilia struggled to find a word to describe it but came up empty. "I can't imagine." She finished after a moment, bright eyes peaking up curiously at Calysta. "How ever did you manage?" Trilia inquired with genuine wonder. Where she had grown up surrounded by dragons, raised almost as much by Minth as her own father, it was almost frightening to imagine a world devoid of the creatures she so adored.
"Oh." Trilia's face fell sympathetically as Calysta mentioned her brother. "Is he not feeling well?" She asked. Where-as Calysta was raised without dragons, Trilia had been raised without siblings, and thus found the topic oddly intriguing. The closest she'd had to brothers or sisters were the weyrbrats she'd lived with when she was small, but she'd given all her friends up for Araelen. How strange that she suddenly thought of children like that little drudge boy with the impish smile, or that pretty little brown-rider's daughter who once picked on Trilia for her heritage...She'd certainly never, or only rarely, wondered how they were. But with a queasy, startled feeling, she realized they had already lived their lives and were long since dead. The epiphany left her feeling a little empty, and she compulsively reached up to stroke Ronin for reassurance.

Calysta smiled as she listened to Trilia speak about coming from the past. She shook her head slightly and smiles, resting back against the edge of the hot spring. She was thoughtful for a moment about the young girl's question.
"Well, the dragon were gone for a long time before I was born so in all honesty I didn't know what I was missing," she said with a soft laugh, her nose wrinkling slightly as she smiled brightly. "Now that I have my dear Luneth, I have no idea how I managed."
She gently brushed against Luneth's sleepy mind, her smile growing tender. She looked toward Trilia as she asked about her brother and she shook her head.
"He was badly injured during the 'Fall. He was badly scored across the chest," she said, her smile disappearing and a worried frown replacing it. "The healers say he will be alright, but will have a bad scar. I know S'lem will be upset with himself for not noticing the clump coming toward them, especially since his blue got scored as well."
She sighed softly and rested her head back against the edge of the pool, shaking her head slightly. "S'lem is my oldest brother and I don't always agree with him, but I do love him," she said with a soft smile. She looked toward Trilia again and tilted her head. "Do you have any siblings? I have two brothers," she said, leaning forward slightly as she looked at the other girl.
It was nice to have another girl to talk to. She was the only girl her parents had had and she missed having a sister to talk with about girl stuff. She idly moved her hands slowly through the hot water, enjoying the feel of it relaxing her muscles. Yes, she would absolutely have to bring her brother here as soon as the healers allowed him.

Trilia returned the smile that came with Calysta's explaination about dragons. It still seemed strange to Trilia, but she refrained from insisting how odd it must have been. Calysta was right: it was hard to miss something that was never there, or had not been there in generations. Still though, how very strange! "I guess I understand." She relented, though she did not look convinced. "But then it must have been very exciting when you heard about Araelen, right?" She prompted, suddenly eager. In her own mind however, this conversation was carefully being driven to a topic Trilia was much more concerned with. She would simply have to be careful to steer it properly. Then, perhaps, this lovely rider could help give her tips about how she Impressed her dragon. Of course she had gotten the details from her father and mother and anyone else with ears and a mouth, but it never hurt to keep searching for information. Trilia would not be left alone on the sands for a second time.
There was just the merest spike of fear at the mention of Thread, and Trilia's hand rose to her mouth in alarm. "Oh! Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." She replied honestly, brows pulling up and together in concern. She began to compulsively stroking Ronin's head again as she listened. Thread was a particularly soar topic around the Weyr, and with good reason. However, Trilia tried her best not to focus on that. Having a dragon, of course, meant protecting Pern. And that was something she never permitted herself to consider, particularly not after Minth was hurt in the last Fall. That was painful to see. Beautiful Minth would live with that scar for the rest of her life..."A lot of people and dragons were hurt..." She found the words slipping from her lips before she could halt them.
Trilia's response to Calysta's question was a little belated, as she attempted to shift her attention from the depressing Thread topic. "Oh, no, I don't have any." She replied, smiling and giggling as she thought about her parents. "I don't think I ever will. It must be nice though." She added whistfully. "Do you get along very well with yours?" She prompted, intrigued.

Calysta laughed softly and nodded, tilting her head slightly to look at Trilia, her nose wrinkling slightly as she smiled brightly. "I was surprised to hear about the weyr and the dragons and sadly like most people thought it was just a rumor until I saw my first dragon in the sky," she admitted, idly swishing her hands in the water.
"And when I saw the first dragon rider," she smiled mischievously at that. "I really wanted to come to the weyr. I was lucky and did get Searched as did my brother, though he wasn't as happy about it," she said, remembering the fight her brother had gotten into with the search rider. "Salem, well S'lem now, was being trained to be a steward and really didn't want to leave home, but he soon warmed up to the idea of living in the weyr. I loved weyr life from the moment I got here, I mean what woman wouldn't with all the handsome men running around, more then willing to give a young woman company," she said with a soft laugh.
She chuckled softly and leaned back against the edge of the springs, looking over at Trilia. "I didn't wish to impress a gold, no I wanted a green which is what I impressed. Oh, hatching day was a wonder despite the hail that we suffered that day. I admit I was afraid standing there on the sands, but I was also in awe," she admitted, looking up at the ceiling thoughtfully.
"When the eggs started breaking open I could only watch in awed silence, I almost forgot to breathe! And then I felt the first brush of Luneth's mind against my own and I couldn't have stopped the tears if I had wanted to. I could only think about how lucky I was to be picked by that lovely green and how mush I loved her!" She sat up and smiled tenderly as she thought about that hatching.
She was silent for a long moment then shook her head, looking back over at Trilia with a slight frown, nodding. "I know many were injured and I heard people saying that more were injured then should have been," she sighed and sunk into the water up to her chin. Her brother had been one of the riders with one of the worst injuries and she had been scared to death when she found out that she had nearly lost them.
"My brothers and I are very close, despite them being over protective sometimes. I love them very much," she tilts her head back and smiles. "I can introduce you to S'lem sometime if you'd like."

Dragons were a topic Trilia could never grow bored of. She smiled as Calysta recalled the first time she'd seen a one. It gave Trilia a warm feeling. She would have liked to remember the first time she'd seen a dragon too, but supposed she must have been too young to remember. Maybe it was Minth or Brueth, or a different dragon altogether... "What did you do then?" She prompted, curious eyes wide and twinkling with interest. It didn't occur to her that she may have been being rude, prying into Calysta's past without at least a 'please' or 'excuse me'.
However, Calysta did give more information on her arrival to Araelen. Perhaps it wasn't as interesting as the timed jump Trilia took, but getting searched, Trilia imagined, must feel wonderful. She'd always just assumed that she was intended for dragons, and no one had ever told her otherwise, so having that hand extended to join the ranks of dragons had never officially been offered to her. A little bit of jealousy wormed its way into her mind. However, when Calysta moved on to men Trilia felt her face heat up, as though she'd been caught doing something wrong. The young girl took that time to sink farther into the water, looking out across the cavern.
Then the topic shifted to the Hatching, and Trilia sat back up again after wetting her hair in the water. "It must have been lovely. Impressing, I mean" She said in hardly more than a whisper, as though suddenly fearing to speak about Hatching days. She'd seen that Hatching, but from high up with her father and Minth; too far, much, much too far, from where she had wanted to be. As Calysta spoke honestly and passionately, Trilia couldn't help feeling that prick of jealousy again.
"Mm, we should have had more dragons." Trilia commented, jealousy shifting to aggravation towards the Weyrleaders. She was still suspicious of M'kel, and she just knew the Weyrwoman was up to no good. It's amazing what you can pick up as a little girl doing candidate chores. No one ever paid her any mind. And all the gossip she'd heard! There was some she was certain were overly exaggerated, but others...well others didn't seem so far-fetched. "We should have come sooner." Trilia continued, feeling grim. "I worry there won't be enough dragons during the next Fall." Oops, should she be talking about grown up stuff like this? But there really weren't enough dragons. Even if the most recent clutch were to join in...but they were all so young, no matter how quickly they grew...
Trilia was able to smile at Calysta's remark about her brothers, though the effort might have still bore a shadow of her concern for the Weyr. When the older woman offered to introduce Trilia to S'lem, it made her feel a little funny because he was in a different age group than her. "Maybe. But thank you." She hedged politely, smiling again. She wiggled her toes in the water, leaning back against the wall. It really was nice here.

Calysta didn't at all mind Trilia's questions, she was enjoying talking to the younger girl. Most of the other girls at the hold had been jealous of her because of the Lord Holders attentions to her. She shook her head and chuckled softly, leaning her head back against the rock behind her.
"The first time I saw a dragon in the sky I was running away from the hold. It was a lovely blue, it looked like a bright sapphire soaring through the sky and I can only stare as it drifted and swooped, until it simply disappeared. When it first vanished I thought I had been seeing things, but then I recalled a vague bit of lesson about dragons being able to travel from place to place by going between," she said, looking up through the steam toward the ceiling as she recalled that day.
She tilted her head and looked toward Trilia again, smiling. "I am glad that I had run from the hold. I had...um...caused the Lord Holder and his mistress to be sick, so I really didn't want to get in trouble. I didn't know that Salem had followed me until he caught up with me in the town. We were arguing in the large path when the search rider approached. Salem and I had been so involved in arguing that we hadn't noticed the green that was already at the town," she laughed softly and brushed damp tendrils of hair out of her face.
"The rider informed us that we had been searched. At first I was confused by what he meant, then I was overjoyed and more then willing to go with him. Salem on the other hand was not at all pleased. Father was training him to be the steward for the hold and he was more then happy with that position so he told the rider off. The rider had drawn a knife and forced the issue," she shrugged and closed her eyes.
"The moment we arrived at the weyr I could only stare at the lovely dragons, the beautiful variety of colors. I know I was rude and stared openly, but I couldn't help it, it was an awe inspiring moment."
She opened her eyes and looked over to Trilia again, sighing. "I agree that we needed more dragons, but we can do what we can with what we have. I'm not sure when the next 'Fall will be, but I will do my best, thats all any of us can do. B'kay trained us the best that he could in the time that was given. The weyrleaders should of had more drills after we graduated from weyrling hood, but hindsight is often more clear then current sight."
