I should be home at least part of the day tomorrow and will try to catch up on reading and posting. We have a new "foster child" as of this evening, though. Meet "Feisty", a baby cottontail whose nest was raided by someone's pet cat. He'll be living with me till he's old enough to release. Baby cottontails are very hard to get past the 'critical point' where they're eating enough formula to maintain and thrive. Think good thoughts for him.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! So cute!!!!! I hope he makes it all right!!! What a sweetie. My cat attacked a baby bunny once, and we got her to let it go, but it was already...too far gone. It was sad. We had a funeral. Hopefully this guy'll make it though! He's so cute. And what a good name! I'm sure you will be a diligent mom.

He's still with us, and still eating for me, though he does seem to have less energy today. I found out that there had been one other survivor, that another rehabilitator took home, but he died during the night. It's so hard to keep them going when they're this young.
I'm not giving up hope, but I do know that the odds are maybe not so much in his favor.

We believe he had an invisible bite wound somewhere, which is very common with cat attacks on wildlife. If nothing else, I've learned a lot in the past couple of days about the effect free-roaming cats have on wildlife. I found an interesting article on the Audubon Society of Portland's web site this morning: www.audubonportland.org/livingwithwildlife/brochures/cats_wildlifeIt's amazing how much I miss the little guy after only knowing him for a couple of days. He was such a tough little spirit, but just not quite tough enough, I guess. ::sigh::
