Hey all,
Alrighty, so there seems to be a bit of...um...displeasure that some of the Weyrlings brought their dragonets to the Hatching Feast.
Now, I don't have all of the books on hand right now in order to do the required research, but in gleaning my memory, I can find few examples to either disprove or support this idea.
The ones I have managed to scrounge up are:
A. Jaxom had Ruth at the Hatching Feast. Now, I'm thinking this may have been an exception, what with Jaxom being a Lord Holder and of course not belonging in the Barracks, but it certainly shows that dragons are not about to faint after Hatching and are capable of staying awake for some festivities.
B. In checking other Pern rp sites, I found that they stated that Weyrlings ought to see their dragons to sleep in the Barracks before attending the Feast.
So the question is: Do we argue the canon-ness of this issue, or do we say, "Well, this is how Araelen will do it, because it shouldn't interfere with the canon of Pern too much."
In my opinion, I would never want to leave a dragon I had just Impressed immediately after doing so. Heck, I probably wouldn't even want to go to the bathroom and leave him/her alone!
Personally, I don't think dragonets would be too much of a nuisance in the large Lower Caverns, although I would certainly agree that they would need to retire early...and stay off the dance floor.
Would anyone else like to add their thoughts?

For the record: B'kay wasn't complaining because Gayze objects to the Weyrlings bringing their dragons to the hatching feast. B'kay was complaining because B'kay was being B'kay. <G> Gayze, personally, thought it was kind of cool. LOL
It's called "staying in character". ;-)

Perfectly understandable. It was just being mentioned by quite a few members in 'in character' posts, so I was wondering if it was bothering members 'out of character'.

I thought it added some interesting "color". :-)

I haven't read all the books, and some of then I haven't read in quite a while, soooo...I don't have much evidence pointing either way on hand. All I have is the Impression short story in the Dragonlover's Guide, which doesn't mention the hatching feast, but basically has F'lessan impress, then go to bed with his dragon, not put his dragon to bed and then go do other things.
I definately agree with Kitty that I can't see myself, or any of my characters, leaving their dragon so soon after impression to go to a feast. I don't know if it's canon, but I can't remember anything in the books indicating that it wasn't allowed.

For some reason I thought the dragons would stay in the barracks. I really don't know why. o_0 Maybe 'cause dragons are always depicted as being sleepy after eating their fill. *shrug* Or maybe I've just participated in too many DRoP Hatchings on neopets. XD But I'd rather have had Lancetoth tag along with D'gellin. I agree that I wouldn't want to leave my dragon behind. :'3 The people in the posts before me left their dragons though so I just followed suit. :< *shameful follower*

I was rereading the series because I'd read all my books, and when I was rereading All the Weyrs of Pern, I happened to recall this thread when I got to the part with the Hatching. So I read over it again, and found a sentence stating that the sated dragonets were asleep in the barracks during the feast.
Just thought I'd comment this. :3
I'll edit this post with the exact quote and a page reference for the paperback copy when I manage to find it again. xD
Edit:
Finally found it. The quote is: "Finally, once the sated hatchlings were asleep on their pallets in the barracks, the Weyrlingmaster permitted the new dragonriders to join their families."

I really don't know anything about this, because I only read one book. @_@ But ah, what ever Tina says, I'll go with. -nods-
