((Calling Amika! :] Starting off in the Weyr but they'll be out in a tic.))
"What do you mean you're not coming?" Fallen asked as he pulled on a jacket, eyeing his cousin warily. Jaylee had been wanting to get out of the Weyr for a few days now, constantly pinning Fallen with a 'please, oh please' look until he'd caved. The plan was for him, Jaylee, and Jaylee and Vicroth's best friend ever Amika, to go down to the beach for some fresh air. After the illness had been discovered for what it really was, and cures distributed throughout the Weyr, Fallen and Jaylee had been making fortunate recoveries. They weren't up to par, perhaps, but they were most certainly on the mend. In any case, getting outside would only do more good than harm at this point, and Fallen couldn't argue that it wasn't something he'd enjoy. Shards did he miss the open air, away from the extra stuffy feel of the Weyr lately. But the point now was that Jaylee was bailing out on him at the last moment, just when he really had his mind set on going! "You were the one who wanted to go." He reminded her patiently, if a bit impertinently.
Jaylee only nodded her head then shrugged her shoulders up high. "Weyrling duties."
"Already?" Fallen rolled his eyes, running a hand through his more-scraggly than normal hair. He hadn't cut it through the whole sickness ordeal and hadn't gotten around to cleaning himself up properly yet. There wasn't exactly anyone to impress when half the Weyr was still recovering..."I guess they can't just stand still forever..." He relented. "We could go another time instead..." He started to offer, but Jaylee was pleased to see that it was only half-hearted.
This was good, because if Fallen had insisted on staying in the Weyr, she wasn't sure if her plan would still work! Fallen needed to relax. He was a good guy but too uptight around everyone else but her! And their new friend, well Amika was sweet but very quiet. So far their get-togethers had been cheery but Amika and Fallen didn't always truly see each other. Jaylee was the connecting factor but she saw things that they didn't see...And Jaylee saw that something needed to be done!
But Amika will be here soon. Vicroth voiced, always a fan of the wherhandler. His head craned to look inside the weyr, his forearms busy playing impromptu bed for his little green friend Cassanth. Fallen scratched at the back of his head, thinking and, Jaylee smiled, relenting.
'You can still go.' Jaylee's bright eyes seemed to say. She didn't mind. She knew that he knew that she didn't mind! Fallen gave her a funny look, perhaps a little suspicious. "You're sure that you can't go?" He asked carefully. Jaylee nodded her head. Fallen looked away, took a deep breath, blew it out in a huff. "I need to get out." He admitted at last. "I'm sorry." But Jaylee didn't mind. In fact, she was smiling! Before he could comment on that, however, Vicroth made a happy little noise, sounding very much like an overeager weyrling. Amika is here! Hello, hello Amika! He called out, weather or not Amika was actually at the room or even near the room. She was closer than she was before and that was all that mattered!
((So rustyyyy...not my best post but look! I DID IT!))

((Nonsense, tany-kins, it made me giggle! Now miiiine is the poops.))
"Oof!" came the surprised reply from the stairway, as Amika stumbled on the last steps into the weyr, upon hearing Vicroth's greeting. She caught herself against the wall, pausing to take a deep breath after that close call (*le rhyme*), and squinted up into the weyr. She saw no whirling dragon eyes; Vicroth must be psychic. Which, of course, all dragons were, in some sense...he must have felt her presence. Or heard her thoughts? It was all very confusing when it came to those creatures; at least her wher Amisk was easier to understand...
Amika had to admit, it was more than Vicroth's voice that had startled her so. She was already a little on edge and had been jumpy all morning. Ever since they'd made the tentative plans to go for a walk today, she'd been looking forward to the occasion with her usual mix of trepidation and excitement. Luckily, the latter emotion was beginning to win out, as Amika felt more and more comfortable around Jaylee and Vicroth, but Fallen always had a way of making sure the former never quite left.
Although she'd assured herself that those fluttery feelings were just the last vestiges of the poison, which still left her feeling weak and dizzy on occasion, she knew she was lying to herself, once again. It was the silliest thing in the world, being nervous around one's friend, but she had never really figured out if Fallen truly liked her or just put up with her for Vicroth's, and now Jaylee's, sake. She wanted him to like her, of course. And that was where the difficulty lay...because thinking about it only made her more nervous, and she was certain that her nervousness only put him off.
But today, she was going for a walk with her friends, and she knew Jaylee, at least, would greet her with a smile! Thus, Amika fixed a small smile upon her own lips and climbed the last few steps into the weyr, glancing around to quickly give a small wave to Vicroth. "Hi Vicroth, Cassanth," she called, smiling more easily at the sight of the little green curled up with the large bronze. Her bronze flit Leopold crooned a greeting of his own, resting comfortably on her shoulder - fortunately, he wasn't as flighty as some flits, and hadn't been overly peeved by her stumble.
"Are you guys ready to go?" Amika asked quietly, moving over to where Fallen and Jaylee were. Her eyes flicked to Fallen briefly but then fixed on Jaylee for reassurance.

Good morning! Vicroth was certain to greet Amika first as she appeared around the door. Cassanth turned a friendly, if a bit sleepy, whirling eye on the girl as well, humming her hello before curling back up; the sun was warm today! Fallen nodded his head in greeting, but he scarcely had her eyes for a moment before she looked away to Jaylee.
"Amika!" Jaylee's long legs had her nearly dancing over to her friend. She wrapped her in a hug then stood back, reaching for Amika's hands in a consolatory way. 'I'm sorry' her dipped head and repentant eyes spoke for her.
"I'm ready, Jaylee's not." Fallen supplied, gesturing perhaps a bit impatiently at Jaylee. "She says she has weyrling lessons today." And didn't decide to tell him until just a moment ago...Fallen gave Jaylee a look. His cousin was going to have to make her own apologies today. He wasn't playing translator to Jaylee's tendency for physical action over words.
"Last minute" Jaylee added quietly with a twitched mouth and fluent shoulder shrug that seemed to say 'what can you do? It happens' She leaned forward a bit then, all regret. "We'll have to do something together, all three of us, another time. I really wanted to visit the beach with you both." She gently squeezed Amika's hands for emphasis. "You'll have to tell me all about it when you get back!" She added, her grinning face had a sort of twinkle to it.

The reassurance from Jaylee was brief, as Amika found herself enveloped in a hug. She returned her friend's gesture, then turned with a smile to receive Fallen's unexpected news. Quickly, her brown eyes darted back to Jaylee, seeking confirmation. Was it true? Jaylee wasn't joining them? The expression on the other girl's face was answer enough, even before Fallen provided the explanation. Amika's features fell slightly, a mix of uncertainty and disappointment playing across her face. She always enjoyed her time with both Fallen and Jaylee, but Jaylee had become a bit of a security blanket for her. An afternoon with just Fallen was not what she had expected.
Nevertheless, Amika put on a brave, if small, smile and nodded in response to Jaylee's assertion that they should try again another time. The other girl's next comment caught her off guard, however, and her brow creased slightly in confusion. Tell her all about it? Amika hardly expected anything exciting to happen on a short walk around the island.
Masking her confusion with a smile, she turned to Fallen once more. "Shall we be off, then?" Her eyes met his and then quickly shifted to the sky outside the weyr. Shards, why was it so hard to maintain eye contact for more than a second! To cover her slight embarrassment, the girl proceeded to the stairs without waiting for a reply before glancing back to see if he was following. "I'd really like to explore the other side of the island, if you don't mind. I haven't been there before!"
One last time, she cast a wistful glance at Jaylee, even though she knew her friend couldn't shirk Weyrling duties. Raising a hand in a sad farewell, she began to step down the stairs.

((Wow, I am back, I am back, I am BACK IN ACTION and ready to RP!!))
Jaylee bit her lip as she waited for Amika's reaction. Fallen was all set but her plans would have been for naught if Amika didn't agree to go as well. She pinched her mouth in a rapidly hidden smile when her friend decided to go. Oh! This would be perfect! It took a great deal of composure to not dance gleefully on the spot. If only there was some way to ensure everything went well though...Faranth only knew Fallen tended towards the quiet side, and Amika even more so, but maybe with a little health in their bodies since the ease of the poison, and a little clean air and warm rays upon their shoulders...well it was a beautiful day, and even if the weather was a generally bland topic, today's particularly lovely appearance had to be worth something. ...although Jaylee was admittedly a touch concerned about the darker clouds on the horizon...would there be thunder today?
Fallen shrugged his shoulders, palms up at Amika's 'shall we be off?'. He supposed so. A "Stay out of trouble." was directed to Vicroth, who only blinked innocently. Why Fallen, whatever kind of problems could I get into on my own? Fallen just gave the draconically chuckling bronze a look. "Take care today." He then warned Jaylee. Hadn't the Juniors begun flight training? They had to be close if not... Jaylee just waved a hand with a smile you know I'll be, and then Fallen followed at a slightly more leisurely pace after Amika, hands tucked in his pockets.
"You haven't seen the other side yet?" He asked, brushing back his bangs. Too long, he decided suddenly; his bangs had gotten much too long if he was already mussing them up. First thing he'd do tomorrow: get a proper cut. Nice and short and unproblematic. Though why that thought struck him as soon as Amika was around seemed a mystery to him. "The tide should be low enough by the time we get there. Just have to be careful of where Rukbat is..." Fallen said thoughtfully. It would be easy to get caught between the water and the cliffs if the tide sneaked up on them...
Jaylee raised a hand after Amika, smile now openly excited as her dearest friends disappeared around the corner. She did wonder though...what exactly she would do in her new-found free time!

As Fallen bid his final farewells to the dragons and his cousin, Amika slowed to wait. When he set off after her, she turned quickly to continue out of the weyr, glancing back over her shoulder when he commented on her remark that she'd never visited the other side of the island. A glance and smile turned into a sheepish stumble when she found herself watching the movement of his hand, brushing back his hair, more closely than the next step. "Oops," she muttered, flushing red. Thankfully, Fallen was behind her and unable to see the colour rising in her cheeks, though she was convinced he'd be able to sense it anyways.
"No," she stated more loudly, "I've not seen much of the island at all, what with it being harder to explore at night…" The consequences of her job as a Wherhandler restricted her life far more than she'd ever expected; nighttime vigils left her asleep for most of the daylight, and Amisk's constant need for care occupied the rest of her time. When she staved off sleep in favour of visiting her dragonriding friends, she often paid the cost the later, but it was always worth it to Amika. Without this, her life was nothing but a series of mundane duties and a lifetime of darkness.
She nodded absently, forgetting that Fallen likely wouldn't be able to see, as he noted that the tide should be appropriate for visiting the shoreline. Amika hadn't thought about that detail, and she was glad that it wouldn't interfere with their exploration. She doubted they would be out long enough for it to become a problem, either.
Once they reached the Bowl, Amika slowed to allow Fallen to fall into step beside her, though she kept her eyes fixed ahead. Leopold bobbed along on her shoulder, eyes whirling in excitement as he took in the sights. She'd forgotten; this trip out of the Weyr would be as exciting and new for her flitt as it was for her! Leopold was an exceptionally loyal bronze, and he rarely strayed far from her. The fresh air would do both of them some good.
Amika chose to bypass much of the shoreline by traveling through the jungle, but eventually they were forced out onto the beach, as the terrain grew rough and the land began to climb. It was far rockier here than the island's southern shore, with only a short spit of sand to navigate between the trees and the breakers as they frothed around fallen rocks. Glancing up, Amika found the source of the rockfall: a cliff rose high into the air just ahead, the side of the old volcano weathered by Turns of pounding by the sea.
"Wow," she murmured quietly, brown eyes climbing to its impressive height. "Did you know this was here?" she asked Fallen, glancing briefly at him before returning her gaze to the cliff. So fixated was she on the powerful sight that she failed to notice the dark clouds that had filled the sky as they journeyed. The raindrop that struck her cheek was dismissed as mist from the sea. Only Leopold noticed the chill in the air, burrowing closer to his's neck.

When Amika explained her reasoning for not having done much exploring, Fallen's mouth down at one side in a Fallen version of sympathy. It really wasn't fair that the weyrhandlers had to be holed up in the underground the way that they were. It was inhumane, and somewhere in his heart he didn't just blame the Weyr, but the whers as well. It is not their fault that they cannot stand the light. Vicroth reminded Fallen patiently, but the bronzerider just brushed the thought away. It was easier to blame someone else than accept something unfortunate for what it was... "When the summer days grow longer, maybe then you'll get a better chance." He offered reasonably, though another silent vow of vengeance against the Weyr broiled in his heart all the while.
That couldn't be all he said though. This was a regrettable problem that Amika faced daily nightly. As she fell in step with him, Fallen had a moment to recognize just how small and alone she was in her involuntarily dark little world. Before he could come up with a suitable verbal reaction to this though, they came upon the dilapidated volcano wall.
Fallen brushed his bangs out of his face, looking up at the beast of a cliff-side with the right touch of muted awe. He shook his head 'no' in response to Amika's query. "I haven't left the Weyr in ages." He admitted with a taste of regret. When had this happened? Fallen reached a hand out to the rough rocky bottom, as though trying to read through touch what had happened here. "It's amazing what nature can do though..." He voiced thoughtfully, eyes following the gravely carnage to the sea. There he paused, narrowing his eyes at the steely-colored breakers across the shore. Nothing worth worrying about, but the wind was certainly picking up. "Come on." He urged, gesturing for them to climb past the volcano. The weather might not hold up too long this morning, so the least he could do was make sure Amika got to see more of the beach, just in case.
After hopping down from the raised boulder-path they'd taken, he turned to offer her a hand down, smiling just a little. It really did feel nice to get outside too. Maybe he didn't care if it was bad weather, so long as it wasn't stale infirmary air.

The footing was getting quite tricky, now, with the rock pile strewn across their path. Amika was picking her way carefully, but Leopold still swayed from side to side with each of her steps, and the little bronze was getting rather annoyed. He squawked when she slipped on a water-slick rock, digging his claws into her tunic shoulder to keep his balance. The girl mimicked his squawk with a slightly more muted cry, one more of surprise than of pain. She could hardly blame the flitt for reacting that way, but it wasn't pleasant for his roost!
"I can't wait for summer," Amika replied to Fallen's comment, though her eyes were fixed on the unstable footing of their path. "I haven't had much of a chance to enjoy myself while the weather is nice, and I don't plan on missing out this time around. I haven't gone swimming in…I can't remember how long."
Suddenly, her speech and stride were cut off as Fallen swung in front of her, causing the girl's brown eyes to raise in surprise. They didn't raise far, however, as Amika realized that he'd hopped down a small drop onto the beach and was now below her. As hard as she'd been concentrating on placing one foot carefully in front of the other, she hadn't noticed that obstacle looming ahead!
The Wherhandler was just considering how she could safely climb down herself when Fallen's proffered hand finally registered in her mind. Her mouth formed a small 'o' of surprise, and she met his gaze for just a moment. His smile was small, but it seemed to brighten the now-overcast day, and her stomach gave a little flutter. Returning the smile shyly, she took his hand and tried to copy his neat hop to the ground. Such a manouveur should have been easy, had her foot not slipped on the rock right as she jumped. Thrown off balance, Amika landed awkwardly and threw up her free hand instinctively to catch herself against Fallen's chest. Leopold was thoroughly unimpressed with this stunt and took to the air, chiding her loudly. "I'm sorry!" she cried out quickly, both to dragonrider and flitt, as she took a hasty step backward and dropped both hands to her sides. And here she'd been thinking that her sharding clumsy streak might finally be past.

"It feels like this winter has been longer than normal." Fallen mused, nudging a small rock ahead of them with his foot. When they reached it again, he gave the stone another little kick. His brows creased momentarily as a thought occurred to him. "Where did you live before Araelen? I mean, did you get a lot of sun or..." Fallen glanced at her, grinning sideways at her relatively pale complexion. "snow?" Having grown up near the south, Fallen had spent most of his days in the sun, unfortunate given his ivory skin, but definitely preferred to the snow, as far as Fallen was concerned. Despite his best efforts to remove himself from the Hold he'd grown up in, there would always be a certain softness for the warmth of the southern sea.
When he offered his hand to Amika, he'd honestly expected her to think nothing of it. To his first befuddled hesitation then stifled amusement, Amika didn't seem to know what to do with his politeness. Had he always been so reserved around her, that this was a bizarre turn? Fallen did suppose he didn't get many opportunities to be a proper gentleman when around Amika...He'd very nearly retrieved his hand, so as not to leave himself so exposed, but she finally accepted his help and took the step - right into him! Automatically he attempted to catch her elbow with his free arm, to keep her from toppling over, but she was able to brace herself against his chest. "Are you okay?" He glanced down from her eyes to her legs, then to the rock, trying to discern what the problem had been, while sparing a mental nudge at Vicroth for the sudden message.
How tiny Amika was though! There were times when Amika seemed tall, but for a moment she just appeared so delicate, something he was more aware of as she pulled away now. There she went with the sorry's again though. If there was one thing Amika was good at, it was apologizing for accidents, things that didn't need forgiveness or concern. Fallen raised his eyes above her then back to her face. "For what?" The question dropped like a stone but he gave her a pointed look with the merest hint of something consoling. 'No problem's here', the look seemed to say. Maybe he'd been hanging around Jaylee just a little too much.

((Here comes a super-exaggerated post, as Amika does best! I must have been in a melo-dramatic mood...)
Fallen was so casual and confident, strolling along the beach, kicking stones, and leaping down from rocks so gracefully he practically floated to the ground. Amika felt like a three-footed wherry in comparison, eyes fixed on the ground just to make sure she kept placing one foot in front of the other instead of on top of each other. Even with her extra caution and anxious supervision, she still managed to trip all over herself, and the fact that she had landed herself in Fallen was more than mortifying.
And did he have to be so nonchalant about it? He could show at least a flicker of annoyance, a hint of disdain for her clumsy step! But no, Fallen only gazed at her with calm, unconcerned eyes. She felt the weight of his question settle upon her, her shoulders nearly bowing with the force of it. Was he truly not bothered by her actions? Was she the only one who saw her clumsiness as something to be embarrassed about?
And then it clicked. The message Jaylee had been urging her to grasp, the one she'd known all along but ignored. Fallen wasn't judging her. He wasn't evaluating her every act and finding it lacking. The only one thinking these thoughts was she.
Amika looked on Fallen with new eyes, not as someone to be feared for the thoughts hidden behind his steady gaze, but as a friend she could trust, like Jaylee. The revelation caused the tension present all through her slender form to release, tension she hadn't even realized was there. The girl actually smiled; a small smile, but more genuine than most she'd managed of late. "And now I'm going to apologize for apologizing. I do that too much, don't I?"
A little overwhelmed by her own, sudden boldness, Amika decided to continue along the beach before Fallen could reply. She strode easily through the grainy sand, eyes looking to her surroundings instead of her feet. Leopold settled back on her shoulder after a moment's hesitation, and the pair navigated the shoreline at the edge of the water. The waves frothed up the beach, stirred by the storm fast approaching, but Amika was too giddy to notice.
"Look!" she cried out suddenly, spotting a black splotch ahead. "Do you think that's a cave?" She paused to turn to Fallen, excitement flickering in her brown eyes. At the base of the cliff a dozen dragonlengths off, there appeared to be a dark opening in the rock wall. "Can we go see it?"
