Does anyone have any ideas for how admins can earn marks? Perhaps through member appreciation of contests?
And what does everyone think of the Marks idea?

That could work. Maybe non-admins could get together a few contests now and then for the admins alone. Perhaps not as frequently but with greater rewards? Or maybe there could be actual tasks in RPs in which characters could earn Marks through roleplaying the character, I don't know, delivering a message for a Lord Holder and getting a reward? Something like that? *blinks*
I think the Marks are fun. =D We actually earn thems so they don't appear out of thin air! XD

That sounds good. It's up to you Members to decide though! Any other opinions? Oh, and, for people with multiple characters, does everyone think that we should multiply your winnings my the number of characters? Or only at certain times?

For the characters, you should only multply them for certain things. Like, for maybe contest winning, but not trivia. It depends on what the contest/trivia is.

For earning marks IC, would it work for everyone if you win the marks for them OOC, then you could rp the characters earning it to make it practical? That would allow you to come up with weird things for your charries to be doing, such as being asked to carry a message between the Weyrwoman and a bronzerider, tempted to open it...lol. I dunnoooo.
And in terms of multiplying marks...I've just been thinking about it such as this... If one person rps one character (which is the lowest number at the site so far), and another person rps 4 characters (which is the greatest number so far), is it really fair if they earn the same number of marks? After all, the person with 4 characters has 4 characters to buy clothing and such for. They can't do that if they only earn a few marks, then have to divide it amongst all four. Thoughts?

I thought that maybe with the trivia questions you could have a bonus question for those with more then one character could answer to get extra marks. Just a thought.

After discussing things with Sitareh and considering all options/suggestions, we just can't think of a plausible way for Marks distribution to be fair unless Marks are multiplied by the number of characters a Member has. Maintaining the site and contests will be busy enough without having to come up with bonus questions, so I don't really think that would work so well. The only other option is to insist that the Marks be divided amongst a Member's characters, so three characters would have 30 each rather than one character having 90.
Then again, if a Member chooses to have one character richer than the others, this will simply mean that the other two would be disadvantaged in gaining the items they require. It will all balance out in the end.
If you worry that a Member with 6 charries will be able to purchase a Wherhide jacket (for example) before a Member with 3 charries, also remember that that Member will still have 5 other charries to deck out, which will still take just as much time.
For some contests, though, we may revoke this practice, depending on potential prize values. How does that sound?

Hmmm, feeling the pinch and wishing to revive this topic....
This is my second account, btw. My other account is M'kel, lol.
Okaaaay, so I am an admin, obviously, and thus I haven't been doing trivia contests, since I'm the one coming up with them most of the time. Thuuuus, although I have been a member since the creation of the site, I only have 44 Marks! lol. That may sound like a lot, except that I have 4 characters (Oh, and M'kel), which means 11 Marks each. Only two of them are dragonriders (plus M'kel), which would mean 22 Marks between the two if the others didn't get Marks...
Anywho, my point is (ends the rambly-rambly), I am nowhere near able to buy protection for my dragonriders for Thread. I checked out all of the prices and stuff, and I can buy ONE item for ONE dragonrider, and that is it.
Now maybe other members with dragonriders are in this same position, and if so, let me know! But I don't think that most cases will be as extreme, since all other Members have the option to participate in every trivia challenge/competition.
Sooooooooo, no decision was ever made on admins earning Marks. I have participated in the Art Contest (feebly, eh heh), since it only involved voting, as well as the Dragon Tournament, since it was decided by rolling, but nothing else.
How can the admins earn Marks? Or should we simply be allotted a certain # of Marks/month or /year?
And should dragonriders of a certain rank be paid Marks, without Members earning them/Dragon Tournaments? For example, queenriders cannot participate in the Tournaments, and thus have no opportunity to earn Marks that way. Also, it makes little sense canon-wise if the Weyrleader or Weyrlingmaster cannot afford to procure certain protection items, since they'd probably just snatch 'em from a Tanner. Other dragonriders couldn't do this, of course.
So, my two questions are:
1. How can admins earn Marks, if they can't participate in all contests?
2. Should Weyr members of rank receive allowances of Marks? And if so, which Weyrmembers should this be restricted to?

This is the first Weyr I've participated in that actually used a Marks system ... it may be a bit much math for Penna.... ::bats eyelashes appealingly::
Though, other societies earn a salary. Why not a salary based on ranking system?
