She hadn't noticed that he wanted her to continue the story, having been intent on cleaning up the mess her little flitter had made. If he ever asked, she'd have been more than happy to tell him the entire amusing tale. Her somber moment was distracted by an odd sound, and she looked up, her brows drawn together by his change in expression. He was biting his lip, for goodness sake! Why was he doing that? But then she told him of her home, and he scooted closer, apologizing for asking, and a small grin twisted the edges of her lips. So the firecracker had a sweet side to him as well. "It's been two years since I've seen most of my family," she explained, turning back to pick up the last of the shards except for the one in his hand. "But my oldest brother is the one who brought me here, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Though I haven't seen him in ages..." This last was a pointed comment more to herself than anything. Then a yelp, and she jumped, turning to look at him.
"Ouch!" Cilnah winced in sympathy, quickly moving to grab a cloth, and gently took his hand, pressing it into the wounds with as much care as she could manage. "Careful there, dear. Don't want you to seriously hurt yourself," she murmured, picking up the bloody piece and depositing it with the others. A grin crossed her lips as he continued to try to cheer her up. "I'll keep that in mind. Now, it's time for you to show me some of that Healer talent of yours," she added, standing up carefully, her hand still pressing the cloth to his. It occurred to her to wonder how he could be a Healer if he hated blood, but she didn't ask.

No! The firecracker did not have a sweet side! Shhh, my dear girl, you wish for the twerp to not talk to you? ... Alright, call him a sweetie all you want, it will be better for you this way.
'It's been two years since I've seen most of my family.'
It was a good thing she explained, because he was begining to worry they were all dead or something and he had been trying to cheer her up the wrong way.
'But my oldest brother is the one who brought me here, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Though I haven't seen him in ages...'
"That's nice! You should go see him."
Of course, he was just trying to make her feel better, but his words were sincere. It was important to stay in touch with family.
'Ouch!'
As she grabbed his hand he set his face musllishly and tryed to twist it away, muttering,
"Nononononono!"
'Careful there, dear. Don't want you to seriously hurt yourself.'
"Dear?"
His lip was up in a sneer again, his own mental block against cutsie names, but as she pressed it again he stifled a yelp and lost the face.
'I'll keep that in mind. Now, it's time for you to show me some of that Healer talent of yours.'
With a self-righteous sniff, he jerked his hand from under her administering care - or he tried to, but winced as the cut didn't take kindly to being dragged across an abrasive surface.
"Gladly, if you would please leggo. Blood is such a pain. I mean, as soon as you break the skin you get it."
As an explanation, not hatred my dear, but he hated the useless of it. It was messy, got in the way... While it was a life source of course, when it was outside of the body it was just something that he could do without.
His other hand went over to carefully pick her hand up, off of his cut.
"You don't know what diseases I might have. Some are blood-born that we don't know about yet."
And then he was rising, hoisting her up too with his good hand and snagging the cloth.
"What I should do is clean it and properly bind it, but I'm too lazy to find water and proper bandages, plus it'll sting. So, this'll do."
A quick loop around several times, hard, and he knotted it with his teeth rather quickly. Flexing the hand once, he grinned at her.
"All better. Now, back to you. Why haven't you seen your brother? He's a rider, isn't he? It's not that hard to find them, their are so little dragons right now."

"Dear?" she repeated after him, glancing up with a confused look on her face. The girl hadn't even realized she'd used the endearment, until she shifted through the past few moments of conversation. Careful there, dear. Don't want you to seriously hurt yourself. Why had she said that? She could feel her face heating with embarrassment, the blush rather obvious even under her tanned skin. Her head dipped, trying to hide her face with a curtain of hair. "Kal. I meant Kal."
Then the hand was jerked from her grip and her expression turned to one of annoyance. If he didn't want her help, then that was just fine, he didn't have to have it. The moment she was standing and had her balance, she pulled away from him and turned, keeping her back to him as he muttered something about bandages and water. She'd been a bother again.... This was why she always kept to children, d**n it all! At least they weren't as demanding and judging as the adult world. Her body and posture were stiff as she messed with the stacks of bowls, pushing and prodding them until they were stacked and aligned as perfectly as they could be. "My brother as well as the rest of the riders has too much to do to be bothered by a kitchen worker like me. If I ever become a Dragonrider myself, perhaps then I would be allowed to associate with him. Until then, it is not my place to seek him out." It had been that way for the past six years, since he had become a Bluerider. At first it had simply been that he had been too busy, but after that, there had been a wall between them. She didn't know if it was of her own making or his, but it had inhibited their henceforth loving sibling relationship.

'Dear?'
He looked at her as she repeated after him, matching her with the confused look. Of course, he found it oddly endearing and cute that she blushed.
'Kal. I meant Kal.'
"Awww..."
He teased at her, grinning that half-grin.
"She's blushing. Do you see that little dude? Your girl is blushing."
Of course, he took the annoyance look that he had been teasing her, and dropped it, a little startled that she whirled out of his grip so fast, turning around pointedly, although he didn't catch that, intent on the clothe.
'My brother as well as the rest of the riders has too much to do to be bothered by a kitchen worker like me. If I ever become a Dragonrider myself, perhaps then I would be allowed to associate with him. Until then, it is not my place to seek him out.'
He faltered in his smile just a little. Assuming, again with the wrong assumption, that the stiff posture was because of her brother, the male slipped over to her, and planting firm hands on her waist, jerked them, spinning her back around to face him, making sure she didn't fall.
"Older brother's are jerks until they learn how to grow up, and that's bogus. You told me yourself, kitchen worker's are just as important, and besides, you're a candidate, not a kitchen worker."
He told her, all serious, trying to make her feel better.
"Seriously, mine was an arrogant prick until he grew up and figured out he was acting immature. Sometimes it's the younger ones that are the ones in the right."
Releasing her then, he grinned down at her, not the burn nor the half, just a small idle grin on his face.
"But what's in the past is in the past. Please smile. You don't look half as pretty when you frown like that."
His eyebrows wagging up and down, he smirked at her, clearly indicating that it was a joke, trying to at least bring back that girl that was there before. This wasn't the rise he was looking for, and he couldn't get it out of her if she was just going to sulk.

She twirled easily around, not even remotely close to loosing her balance. One thing she was good at was grace of movement, if not of action. Ignoring the rib about her blush, another confused look crossed her face. "Older brother?" the girl asked. "I have no older brother. I am the oldest of three. N'yrl is a year younger than I am." She watched him carefully, wondering what he was up to, moving so close. "And I have always been a kitchen worker, just as my mother was a kitchen worker, and her mother before that." She shrugged, remembering the time when she wouldn't speak to her mom because she had refused to let the little girl continue her candidacy.
Cilnah didn't smile at his insistence, or his amusing actions, but she was watching Makamae as he curled around the boy's neck and settled in for what seemed like a nap. Briefly she wondered if he would have chosen this one had he been there at the time of hatching, for he hadn't acted this way towards anyone but herself, but quickly dismissed that motion. Flitters went wild if their bonded wasn't there, they didn't choose a substitute.

He admired the ease that she fell into the swoop, knowing that if someone had done that to him he would have probably thrown back his weight and brought the other person down rather than risk looking like an idiot as he fell.
'Older brother? I have no older brother. I am the oldest of three. N'yrl is a year younger than I am.'
He gaped at her. She was worried how her... Little brother treated her?
"Squash him."
He told her, all joke gone, face serious.
"You're older, doesn't matter rank. Siblings are supposed to stick together, and a little brother who thinks he's better than his big sister... Squash him like a bug and remind him who loves him, if you still do after what he did to you."
He recognized the suspicious look and smoothly took a step back, grinning at her, although the smile faded again when she kept speaking.
'And I have always been a kitchen worker, just as my mother was a kitchen worker, and her mother before that.'
The boy only looked at her again, a slightly ugly look crossing his face. He recognized the hidden underlaying fact - she wasn't allowed to be a candidate.
"Well, then maybe it's better that they stayed back. You aren't a kitchen worker anymore, and it should say so right on your knot. You're a candidate, something that is, I think, more fitting for you."
He knew that she wasn't looking at him, which means the flit that had just settled around his neck would be what she was staring at.
"Do you want him back?"

Almost instantly her confused look turned disparaging. "I happen to be very close to my little brother, thank you," Cilnah told him. At least, she used to be. There was the problem of that invisible wall that had been thrown up since they'd come forward through time. "And besides, he doesn't feel superior, he feels guilty." As she said it, she tilted her head and pushed her hair back over her shoulder, revealing the white scar mark just under her ear and behind her jawline. "I got that the day he Impressed, and he feels it's his fault that I was unconscious for three days." For a split second she looked annoyed, but it quickly faded. "I've told him time and time again it wasn't his fault, but her refuses to believe me."
The girl's brows pulled together briefly as he said his bit about her family. And for a time she agreed, before she remembered her place.
There was a moment of silence before Kal asked if she wanted the flitter back, and she flashed him a brief grin, waving her hand dismissively. "He'll move when he's ready. I'm not worried about it. Enjoy his company while you've got it."

'I happen to be very close to my little brother, thank you.'
Kal only raised an eyebrow at her, giving a snort of humor.
"Of course, that's exactly what you just told me."
'And besides, he doesn't feel superior, he feels guilty.'
"So we are now getting somewhere in this eternal story..."
He hushed though quickly, his eyes growing murderous as she showed the scar that marred an otherwise perfectly beautiful face.
'I got that the day he Impressed, and he feels it's his fault that I was unconscious for three days.'
The look only lessened slightly - for some reason he felt oddly protective of this silly girl.
'I've told him time and time again it wasn't his fault, but he refuses to believe me.'
He only rose his eyebrow again before murmuring,
"Looks like that wall's gonna stay up until one of you makes the first move..."
'He'll move when he's ready. I'm not worried about it. Enjoy his company while you've got it.'
"Awwww, I feel loved."
His hand darted up to scratch at the slumbering flits eyeridge, although he never left those eyes off of her.
