Gryth hummed an apology for hurting her feelings, but he felt no remorse what-so-ever for his outburst, and in fact was quite proud of himself for voicing his opinion for the first time in a great while. I know you didn’t, Mosawyth-love. But it is simply the truth. His eyes tinted with just the faintest beginnings of anger as she butted her head against his, and he curled around her protectively. I will have to deal with them if they try to catch you at your next Flight… he thought mostly to himself, but loud enough for the Green to hear as well as she darted off.
N’ryl, for his part, was also slightly stunned, but that was because of the fact that Toni had not jumped up the second she realized where she was. He had been expecting it, had even kept his arms loose and unobtrusive around her so as to not hinder her escape. But she was still sitting there with him. Stone still and barely daring to breathe, yes, but still there.
And then a single word slipped from her lips. His face colored until his normally pale skin was stained a deep red. He stammered for a few seconds, not even having realized that he’d said the word until his mind ran over his inquiry. He was saved, though, from having to come up with an explanation for his endearment when she continued. “Of course I caught you,” he answered, sounding amused and just faintly indignant. “You could have hurt yourself if you’d fallen to the lake floor.”
As soon as he had said it though, her enchanting eyes had torn away from his and were looking down at the water again, and he couldn’t stop the disappointed sigh that left his lips. N’ryl’s eyes never left her, but she didn’t want to make her any more uncomfortable around him. As she began her flood of questions, he forced his arms to loosen even further around her. “You’re welcome,” he answered softly, his voice surprisingly blank. “I’m glad you aren’t hurt. I’m fine as well, so there’s no need to be sorry.” He watched as her eyes flickered back and forth, but he did nothing but lower his own. “I don’t want to let go of her…” he complained to Gryth quietly.
Then don’t.
The reply was quick, simple, and to the point. But it held everything the boy needed to steel his resolve and, just as his arms would have slipped away and released her fully, they tightened again in an instant. This time it was obvious that he wasn’t trying to keep her from harm. He was holding her. And he hid his face from her by resting it against her shoulder, his own eyes shut tight. N’ryl could feel his body trembling just slightly, but he held his arms perfectly still, and tight, around Toni. “Forgive me,” he whispered, his voice begging forgiveness for his sudden actions. “It’s just that it isn’t often that I have a beautiful girl fall into my lap and…and…. And I really just don’t want to let go!” This last came out along with a break in his voice, making him sound for the entire world like a young boy confessing his love to his first crush.

Those three words, Are said too much, They're not enough.
Wyth eyed Gryth as he apologized, and decided to forgive him - although he seemed to not mind that he had been very forthcoming. She believed she liked it - it was good for the males to take control and make her feel even more pretty by fighting over her. I know you didn’t, Mosawyth-love. But it is simply the truth. Did she mention she liked when they got protective? A happy hum as he coiled with her, and she let herself relax for just a few moments in his embrace before deciding that although it was nice when they took charge, she still wanted fun. I will have to deal with them if they try to catch you at your next Flight... Did she even have to bother to tell him that she would allow no other to catch her? No. Instead, she darted off to the deeper end and told him happily, Come catch me now, then! It was useless to watch Her's - she would do as she would, although part of her was always watching the girl anxiously, and Gryth's. She liked Gryth, but His... If he hurt one inch of her Toni....
Part of her laughed as he colored, stammering words that meant nothing. She didn't want to hear the answer, she knew. Probably lies. Of course, his next words were so sweet, gently reprimanding at the fact that he would do anything else. 'Of course I caught you. You could have hurt yourself if you’d fallen to the lake floor.' The water was more important, she told herself, trying to not escape back to the beauty in the jade. "Oh." Her word was soft, a little shocked, but colored faintly - pleased? And then he was sighing, and she twisted partway on his lap to peer up at him, trying to discern the reasoning behind it. As Mosawyth had pointed out, it was useless to make guesses. Maybe... Maybe he was different.
'You’re welcome.' He had no emotion in his voice, and his arms were slipping away. Even Wyth couldn't declare that it was anything but a very firm invitation to leave, and yet she waited until the rest of his words were played out. Part of her, the very demanding part, told her that she didn't want to leave the safety of his arms, just like that morning. 'I’m glad you aren’t hurt. I’m fine as well, so there’s no need to be sorry.' Silence. She knew now, even as the muscles against his arms loosened even more and were just about to slip away, that her welcome cage was breaking apart. She didn't want to leave it! She was content, as she hadn't been in a long time, she stay snuggled against him, although... That really isn't snuggled up against him, love. Press yourself against his back. Feel his warmth. That is a cuddle, and they are very nice.
Mosawyth's words were something she needed, for even as his arms tightened up around her, like when she had been falling. Now, they were holding her. Surprise made her eyes widen, and her body - already reacting to the command - finished it's decent into his back. She found herself tucked up against him, his arms a happy comfort around her, and his head buried in her shoulder. She tucked her own head in the crook of his neck, embarrassed at her own demanding expectations and going against his wishes... But did he really want her to leave, if he was holding her? His words helped her stop guessing. 'Forgive me. It’s just that it isn’t often that I have a beautiful girl fall into my lap and…and… And I really just don’t want to let go!'
Shock. Silence seemed to settle over the water, and she realized that her fingers were gripping his shirt at his waist. That was... "Really?" The first thing to say, and it was really? Facepalm much. Taking a quivering breath, she didn't remove her head from his neck, even as she stared very determinedly across his chest. "I mean... Really?" Way to be an idiot. She couldn't think of anything else to say, even as she wanted to sooth his shaking. "Are you cold?" A worried tone of voice, and Mosawyth re-surfaced to look at the two humans, a draconic incredulous expression on her face. Really, Mine? REALLY? He's shaking because he's nervous. Muttering about stupid humans, Toni ignored the dragon to finally lift her head up and peer up at him. "You're nervous?" It was a whisper, but she bit at her lip anxiously and very carefully settled her head back where it was. "I don't mind. I'm nervous too."
She didn't think about the fact he called her beautiful - it was an overload for her already anxious brain. That would be for another day, on another time. Right now she was content to cling to him, almost too afraid to breathe, afraid that if she moved she would scare off the male, while her Green snorted at the stupidity of humans and capered in the water, intent on making Gryth catch her as she darted and dove through the water, Nessy alive.
If I lay here. If I just lay here. Would you lie with me, And just forget the world?

He paused, waited, afraid of breaking the silence. So afraid that even the sound of his heart thumping in his chest would shatter the world around them. He was sure that she could feel it anyway, pressed up and held against him as she was. His face was still pressed against her shoulder, but he hadn’t missed the subtle shifting of her body, her weight pressing lightly back against him instead of just being held there. She’d wanted the embrace, he realized, and the realization made his heart skip a beat. She’d actually wanted him to hold her! And just as he realized this, the silence was broken by a single word. And that single word seemed to release all of the tension in him. Because in that single sound he’d heard not only disbelief, but just the smallest fraction of pleasure. And that pleasure made him almost giddy with relief, so much so that he fell into a fit of laughter.
He’d all but gained control of himself, his grip on her slackening in his mirth but by no means releasing her, when she repeated in, and he fell into his laughter again. But then she asked about him being cold, and his amusement quickly settled, though a small smile remained on his lips, touching his eyes just faintly. “No, I’m not cold love,” he answered her, this time using the endearment on purpose. He wasn’t really sure if calling her ‘love’ was going a bit too far, but he could think of nothing else that might be suitable, and after all, he’d used it before.
Feeling her head lift up from his chest, he also raised his own, looking down at her and waited patiently for her next words, for he could see in her expression that she had something else to say. Slowly, he nodded to her, a touch of affection in his tone as he answered. “Yes, I am nervous. And rather surprised you didn’t immediately jump from my lap and run screaming to your weyr.” This admission was ended by a light chuckle, and his arms folded around her, holding her even tighter to him as she admitted that she was nervous too. He wasn’t really sure what about, but N’ryl knew that she shouldn’t be. “There won’t be any harm come to you while I’m around,” he promised, and it was easy to tell from his tone that he meant it.
Elsewhere, Gryth had disappeared under the water, moving agilely though it’s depths until he could curl his tail around Mosawyth’s, a mewl of amusement and pleasure escaping him.

Such an odd pair. They deserved each other more than they knew, a pair that were unalike and as alike as two pea’s in a pod. It was them, what they deserved – Faranth knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy journey, but a they would make it, for the silence spoke it all. They sat in the warm water together, cuddled in a hesitant embrace. It was a frozen moment – time moved on, but they held perfectly still, fighting to be perfect, fighting to keep the moment still. She reveled in it, reveled in his warmth and the comforting feel of his arm’s around her’s. She soaked in every second of it, this stolen embrace, taking in his scent and the feel of his heartbeat. Of course, she ruined it all by talking.
Or so she thought, for as soon as she spoke, he began to laugh. Her first instinct was to run – he was laughing at her. But no… It took a pause, a moment to read him, and she realized he was just laughing. She didn’t see what was funny, but if he did… Well, she could deal with the fact that he was a little quirky, if he wanted to hold her and it didn’t seem as if Mosawth was turning to another dragon… He stopped laughing soon enough, keeping his arms around her comfortably enough that she relaxed a little more. It was a tentative relaxation, slowly sinking into his embrace. N’yrl was still smiling as he answered her, although he was back to a smaller smile – none of this loud fast laughter that made her nervous. ‘No, I’m not cold love.’ There it was again, that term. She nodded, glad at least that he wasn’t cold, but her mind had moved on from that. Her lips formed the word as though it was alien – it was in a way – and she mouthed it to herself just once. Love. What could any of this mean?
It was enough that she stayed in his embrace, even as he called her Love – it was a word that needed capitalization, after all – as she shyly looked up into his face. She was peering up at him, full on for once rather than out of the corner of her eye, just waiting… Would he feel awkward, or yell? But everything he did was slow and soft, and she could feel herself relaxing even more as he spoke. ‘Yes, I am nervous. And rather surprised you didn’t immediately jump from my lap and run screaming to your weyr.’ It was a truth – she could hear it in his voice, in the very way that he held her tighter as though she would still go running off.
“Oh. Umm, actually, me too. Though Mosawyth might have dragged me back here if I did.” It was quiet, but the tone held true – she was actually joking around. Not on the first part – she had no idea why she had stayed, but the second part. Toni didn’t expect anything else from him, but he went on. ‘There won’t be any harm come to you while I’m around.’ His words made the relaxing girl freeze, looking up into his jade eyes with a startled air. He wouldn’t hurt her? She was nervous for the fact that she might mess up, but she was also nervous that he would hurt her. Did his promise mean that he wouldn’t hurt her, at all? It was a ringing proclamation on the day, a truth that was clear and very very firm… And she nibbled on her lower lip and believed him that she wouldn’t get hurt on this day… So she relaxed back into the embrace and let herself be swept away by warm arms and the promise of safety.
The Green allowed him to catch her finally, curling around the Blue like a serpent of the seas as she relaxed into her own embrace, humming her contentment.
Toni and Mosawyth are ending the post with this, because it sounds like a good ending, yes? But for those of you following the exciting story of the confused dragon-created lovers, a new installment is up and ready – Odd Truth's is over in the dining hall. XD
