After the Weyr's second Threadfall, all of the Weyrfolk were amazed by the drastic decrease in injuries suffered during the Fight. The lingering hesitations many may have felt in having a brownrider as Weyrleader were markedly diminished, for P'neil and Artoneth proved their worth in the skies. Unfortunately, Artoneth was badly scored, and the Weyr has done a surprising job in rallying behind their new leaders and wishing a fast recovery. The young gold, Ezelth, was also Threadscored, but some think it may have done more good than harm. Her rider, Crown, actually seems to be expressing love and concern for the dragon for the first time since they Impressed... This isn't the first time the Weyrfolk have grumbled about the injustice of an unwilling girl Impressing a Queen!
The latest Hatching has every member of the Weyr talking, with a sight upon the sands none thought they'd ever see again! Two golds, once again, Hatched for Araelen, and the Weyr's prospects seem all the brighter. Although the number of bronzes was disappointingly low, there are plenty of new greens, blues, and browns who will provide speed and agility in Threadfights. There were some surprising Impressions, but everyone was relieved to see dear Trilia finally Impress. After all, that darling girl stood rejected through two Hatchings already! Other than that, the most remarkable aspects of the Hatchings were the sheer number of male greenriders (is this a trend in the male population? Should the Pernese start to worry?), the pair of female brownriders, and the slough of female blueriders. A couple of questionable Weyrlings, but mostly a good batch!
The triumph against Thread and the success of the two Hatchings has been dimmed somewhat by a nasty flu. The Kitchen folk, who are being especially chided for their hygiene practices, are most vocal in their suspicions about the source of this illness. Blame is being directed down every route possible, including the Herders, who might be bringing diseased animals in from the Holds, the Traders who frequent the Weyr, and especially those blasted candidates-now turned-Weyrling! After all, young'uns are notorious for not washing their hands, and those candidates are brought in from everywhere!

Retired Threads Old threads that have been moved out of their original boards to freshen up. Read them for history, or to learn more about characters. Moderators: M'kel, Master, Shikai, D'gellin
Hatching Ground The steaming sands of the Hatching Ground are surrounded by stands carved into the stone for spectators. Above these, ringing the Ground, are the perches for the dragons in times of Hatchings. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Candidates' Quarters (1 sub-board) Separated into two sections, girls' and boys', the Candidates' Quarters consist of a long, stone chamber with neat rows of bunk beds. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Weyrlings' Barracks (1 sub-board) Similar to the Candidates' Quarters, the Barracks differ in that there are small hollows beside each bunk for the newly Impressed dragon to remain near its rider at all times. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Dragonriders' Weyrs (2 sub-boards) These are the individual weyrs of the dragonriders after their graduation from weyrling status. The weyrs honeycomb the towering walls of Araelen Weyr's volcano crater. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Wher Hatching Ground Across the Bowl from the hub of Weyr activity at the Lower Caverns, the Wher Hatching Ground can only be reached by following a dark corridor deep into the side of the volcano. There are few glows in this corridor, in consideration of the nesting gold. The Ground itself contains a bed of steaming sand, but there are no stands on the walls. It is a small cavern with a low roof, and water drips occasionally to the floor. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Wher Candidates' Quarters A small cavern within the Weyr, adjacent to the Wher Hatching Grounds, has been designated for wher candidates to sleep in. This is far from the 'fancy' quarters of dragonrider candidates, as males and females do not receive separate quarters. The beds are basic cots, and few amenities are allowed. Glows are kept to a minimum in consideration of the gold Wher living next door. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Wherhandlers' Caves Along the same, large corridor that leads to the Wher Hatching Ground are a series of cave entrances. These will be inhabited by the whers and their handlers immediately after Impression. There is no separate room for the handler to sleep in, but a small bed with furs is provided. Hopefully there will be enough caves for all, or sharing might be required... Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Lower Caverns The Caverns include the kitchens, the living areas of the Lower Caverns workers, and the dining area for the entire Weyr. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Healing Cavern This Cavern, located on the Bowl's ground level, contains cots for use by patients in the event of an injury. A larger Cavern attached to the first and with its own entrance to the Bowl is set aside for dragons unable to access their own weyrs due to injury. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Hot Springs/Sauna Weyrfolk who witnessed the latest Hatching (and weren't sitting too close to the Sands) were inspired by the relaxing effects of the heat and steam. Thus, they decided to re-visit a cavern discovered near the Healing Caverns. It had originally been deigned useless due to the extreme heat seeping throughout this room from its pool of hot water. Water also drips from stalactites, causing steam to rise where the droplets strike the hot rock of the floor. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Beast Stables The caverns in which beasts not belonging in the Feeding Ground are housed, including personal runnerbeasts, pregnant beasts, etc. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
The Lake Located across from the Lower Caverns in the volcano's crater, centuries of rain collection and erosion have resulted in a pristine, crescent shaped lake. In times of heavy rainfall, the two points of the crescent meet, forming a small island of forested land in the centre of the lake. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Feeding Ground Located adjacent to the lake, the centuries of erosion have allowed for viable soil to develop. Grass has flourished and trees are growing strong. The herdbeasts are kept in this area with their own drinking pond by crude fences to prevent their wandering into the Lower Caverns or out of the Weyr. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
The Valley The only ground entrance to the Weyr is a tunnel wide enough for five herdbeasts to pass through and high enough for a dragon to easily walk through. This leads out from the volcano's crater to a lush valley landscape, which slopes gently down to a natural, harbour-like cove. On either side of this valley slope is the rugged jungle of the Weyr's island. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Dragon Tournaments (1 sub-board) This is an event only board in which dragons and riders will compete to earn prestige and Marks. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Flitter Mail The Weyrleaders have decided to put those nuisancey pets, which are nearly outnumbering the dragons by now, to work! Have your mail delivered flitter style for a very reasonable cost! Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Personal Record Hides In this board, members can create threads for each of their characters to keep journals or notes on their experiences in the Weyr or elsewhere, as well as exciting encounters they may have had. *wink* Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Celos Sea Hold (1 sub-board) This Hold exists in one of the many coves along the Eastern shore of the Southern Continent. One end of the cove is a rocky promontory that juts out into the ocean, the other a sandy shoal that curves in a protective arc about the calm Harbour. The Hold itself is constructed of the abundant jungle wood that surrounds the cleared area. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Minor Holds In the Turns since the Southern Continent was settled, Holds have been established and blossomed across the land. Searches are conducted at these smaller Holds, and the citizens of Pern reside within. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Harper Hall Located on the edge of the Eastern Barrier Range, near to the Paradise River, this Hall spreads out at the base of a cliff. Inner chambers have been carved into the rough stone, while outer rooms have been constructed of wood. Those Harpers not assigned to Holds or Weyrs, from Masterharper of Pern to Apprentices, reside and train here. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin

Minor Halls and Camps Aside from the main Crafthalls of the Continent, minor Halls have been established at some minor and major Holds. These can include mining camps in the mountains. Searches are conducted in these places, as well. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Jungle The Southern Continent is known for its vast expanses of steaming jungles. Although the abundance of red fruit gives these jungles a welcoming appearance, the wherries and felines that may lurk within disagree. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
Beaches and Coves The infamous and numerous beaches and coves of the Southern Continent are frequented by all. They are a place for relaxation, recreation, communication with dolphins, or searches for fire lizard nests. Moderators: Master, M'kel, Shikai, D'gellin
